Point Roberts WA is a very unique Pacific Northwest area encompassing a hybrid of Canadian and American influences. We are on a 5 square mile peninsula of land that juts out from mainland Canada below the 49th parallel, surrounded by ocean on three sides and the US / Canada border to the north. Our combination of ocean and land masses makes the Point a “Blue Hole”, one of the sunniest locations in the NW. We are 35 minutes from downtown Vancouver, 20+ minutes to various Olympic 2010 venues, two hours (and five minutes!) from World Cup and Olympic downhill races at Whistler.
Our home is a modern architectural take on a traditional Victorian Sea Captain’s home. Upper level decks have 360 degree exposures, east to Mount Baker, south to the US San Juan Islands, west to the Canadian Gulf Islands and north over the grass airstrip to the Vancouver North Shore Mountains. This designer home is centered around a great room concept with Roche Bobois leather furniture, stainless steel appliances, granite kitchen counter, handcrafted stone murals inside and out, and has 3 bedrooms all with ensuites including a King Westin Heavenly Bed™ in the master suite. The hot tub is on the SW upper deck, a great place for evening cocktails while enjoying the vast sunset and ocean views. Outside we have done extensive hardscaping and landscaping with a close cut Idaho quartzite driveway and walkways, exposed aggregate terraces, beautiful flower garden, baskets and pots as well as a desert xeric garden with many exotic agave, yuccas and echeverias rarely seen in this zone. You will know that you have arrived when you see the 13 foot orca whale mosaic in the driveway, the US and Canadian flags and a garden bench overlooking the ocean.
We are on the SW corner of Point Roberts, the second house from Lighthouse Park; an easy ten minute walk to the grass airstrip or the marina, within easy walking distances from local art galleries and restaurants and just a few minutes drive from the local award winning golf course. During the summer season we frequently have orca whales in front of our house and year round enjoy the extensive bird life including bald eagles, great blue herons, loons, oyster catchers, mallard, wood and other ducks, coots....and so on, you get the idea. Our extensive flower gardens also attract innumerable song birds and hummingbirds. In addition we have an organic vegetable garden overflowing with tomatoes, herbs and fresh greens that in the summer you are welcome to help yourself to while you stay at our home. In the winter, our location is unparalleled for watching storm systems moving through, enjoying winter walks in solitude along the beach, watching the Point Roberts Yacht Club winter sailing series or just curling up in front of the propane fireplace with a good book.

- Lighthouse Park, Lily Point, and Monument Park are within walking distance from our home and sandy Maple Beach is a short drive away; this is a great location for: whale watching, wildlife viewing, beachcombing, storm watching, boating, sailing, kayaking, fishing, photography and seashell, sea glass, sand dollar and rock collecting; in addition there is an award winning 18 hole golf course minutes away, and the marina and private grass airstrips are a short walk. If you are ready for a day away from the peacefulness of Point Roberts, Vancouver with all of it’s amenities is a 35 minute drive away.

Why the Owner Chose Point Roberts
We are the typical Point Roberts couple, “one of each”, one Canadian and one US citizen. When we first met in 1992 Kellie showed Terry Point Roberts, one of her favorite places; we settled in Oregon but every year we would bring our 50’ sailboat back up to the San Juan and Gulf Islands for the summer. In the summer of 1998 we both had to return to work unexpectedly and some friends offered us their slip in Pt Bob for a few weeks. That did it! From that point forward, even though we were frequently gone for months at a time, we always maintained a boat slip in Point Roberts and we began looking for our new home. We already knew that we loved Point Roberts in the summer, a great central location with unbelievable good weather. However it was one memorable winter day that we knew for sure that we HAD to be here. We were up looking at beach houses that were for sale; the wind was so strong that Kellie was blown backwards by the force of it, the beach was surging, white sea foam was rolling between the houses. When we entered “the house with the turrett” there was a sailboat beating into the wind with a torn genoa sail, it was beautifully framed through the turret windows. We were sold - we had found our new home!
The Unique Benefits at this Beach House
Location, location, location - we absolutely love this location! We are steps from Lighthouse Park, the orca whales go by our front door step, there is beach fishing and clamming in front of the house, incredible nature photo opportunities year round and we have great proximity to the local airport and the marina. With a southern exposure, our home is always flooded with light and if it gets a little to warm we just open our windows to a nice beach breeze. We have decks off of every bedroom and every side of our home allowing for great view lines in all directions. Our home is great for entertaining, the great room opens seamlessly onto the front (water side) decks. Over Christmas we “absorbed” 17 family members; this summer there was an Artist’s Residency on the Point, we hosted three of the artists fulltime and many of the dinners for 20+ were held at our place. However, the house easily transitions into a great relaxing retreat with easy access to long walks on the beach, seashell, seaglass and rock collecting year round, curling up with a book by the fireplace, morning coffee or evening wine up in the turret or a nice quiet place to simply be.
