Amazing House in a wonderful location!

Guest: JessiBoots (Los Angeles, CA)
Date of Stay: 05/10/12 Review Submitted: 05/24/12

My family had a wonderful time in this beautiful home. The home is so well decorated but still makes you feel comfortable and at home. This truly felt like a home away from home. Every day we would walk up to Queen Anne Ave and to the park. The house is in such a great walkable neighborhood we didn't feel like we needed our car. Don't think twice about renting this fantastic home!

Perfect home

Guest: Alex D. (Tel Aviv)
Date of Stay: 08/21/11 Review Submitted: 09/17/11

This was probably the best vacation house for us so far and we travel several times a year and rent houses around the globe. Macallen house is even better than the pictures describe. And what makes is perfect is the feeling that you get after a just few minutes of being inside - "This could well be my real home ". Queen Anne neigborhood is great - clean, safe, well located for seightseeing and with probably the best restaurants in Seattle. Kerry Park is just around the corner. Great for a family stay, as well as for a group of friends or even a couple that wishes to get a real Seattle feel for the price of a good hotel. The owners are extremely professional about the rental process. Thank you Holly for your beautiful house, great conversation, maps and recommendations about Seattle and the Walla Walla bottle of wine that we extremely enjoyed. We hope to have a chance to return and highly recommend the house to our fellow travelers.

Lovely home, great neighborhood, great owner!

This is a gorgeous home in an amazing neighborhood. As others mention it is very close to everything, but the hills are not to be downplayed - quite steep especially if you have a stroller. However, I can't imagine having picked a better Seattle rental. The house was incredibly well stocked with necessities and a large DVD collection. The owners were incredibly responsive and helpful. Driving around the city is a breeze though - I was very surprised at how little traffic was (we did avoid the heart of rush hour naturally) and how plentiful parking was.

I just wanted to let you know how delighted we were with our stay at Macallen House. It couldn't have been more perfect for our needs, and was above and beyond what we even dreamed of, in terms of all the little extras and beautiful decorating touches. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen with every utensil we could possibly need, and appreciated the nonperishable food supplies and coffee setup. We loved the stereo system, and were delighted when we realized that the beautiful flower arrangement in the living room was real! The dining room was perfect for meals and for playing games. We enjoyed taking the neighborhood walk you recommended through Queen Anne. Above all, it was a perfect place for extended family to spend a week together enjoying Seattle and each other's company in anticipation of our son's wedding. Thanks for creating such a delightful environment!

Guest: Family of 5 (Boston)

We absolutely loved our stay! It really is the perfect location - we could walk to Seattle Center, ogle the beautiful properties on Queen Anne Hill, walk to cute shops and restaurants, and take in views of the harbor and the city lights in the evening. I was thankful for the generous parking (we ended up with an SUV as a car rental), the washer and dryer (detergent provided!) and the well-stocked kitchen and bathrooms. The house was so beautifully appointed we felt we were staying in a luxury hotel - while still having a place for the boys to play games and relax downstairs. The Macallen house was immaculate when we arrived, and a bevy of guidebooks and suggestions made it easy to find things to do in addition to what we had planned. I thought the house was even more spacious than the pictures showed, too. I couldn't recommend this property more - we will be back!

Great house, great neighborhood, great landlord

We had a fantastic stay at this house in Queen Anne. It is very homely and family friendly - I stayed with my wife, 2.5 year old daughter and newborn son. We were originally only going to stay for 3 weeks but liked it so much we stayed for 6 weeks. The house itself is excellent and it is situated in a really good neighborhood - on a quiet street but very close to all the shops, coffee and restaurants in Queen Anne. Holly was also an excellent landlord - very friendly and thorough with all the paperwork and payment details throughout our stay. We will definitely stay here again next time we visit Seattle.

Senior Six Birthday Reunion

Guest: Lani (Oak Harbor, WA)
Date of Stay: 09/25/10 Review Submitted: 10/04/10

Five friends and I celebrated our turning 60 this year, at the Macallen House. We came from So Calif, Oregon, Maryland & Washington. Our comment upon entering the home was "Wow"!! It was everything the photos and description depicted and allowed us to celebrate our reunion in style!. We had the living room coffee table covered with old year books, letters & pictures from our youth. We opted to have our dinners at the dining room table because we wanted to savor our time together. We collectively cleared the table, did the dishes and returned to our reminiscing. We enjoyed Pikes Place Market, the Duck Ride through downtown Seattle & into Lake Union, Pioneer Square, Fremont District & the Ballard Locks, but mostly cherished the warm surroundings of a beautiful home with Dear Friends. I was privileged to stay in the Master Bedroom with a great comfortable bed, a huge closet and a bathroom to die for. The home was positively spotless. The towels in the bathroom were like something out of a 5 star hotel, plush & soft. We never turned on the TV, well we did but could never figure out the remotes...I believe it's an age thing. The property owners were like old friends right from the beginning and refunded our security deposit within a few days of our departure. I'd go back in a heartbeat and would recommend this home to anyone. Thank you Holly & Luther for giving us a perfect place to make new memories with old friends.

We could not have asked for a better place to stay while traveling with our nine-month-old. Holly and Luther have thought of EVERY last detail. Not only did we enjoy the beautifully appointed rooms and glorious views, but we even had a stroller, high chair and Pack 'N Play at our disposal. Queen Anne is a charming neighborhood, close to everything and the Macallen house is within walking distance to numerous restaurants and sights. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, highly recommend it and hope to return! Thanks again Holly and Luther!

Location, Luxury, Lavender

Guest: Liza (South Windsor, CT)
Date of Stay: 07/03/10 Review Submitted: 07/14/10

My family and I just completed a week of one of the most fun and restful vacations we have ever had all thanks to Mac House. Holly and Luther have it all figured out, folks. The house was spotless, 5 star luxurious down to the fluffiest white towels you have ever used, and the kitchen is way better equipped than my own. Their remodel is worthy of some HGTV design award. I kid you not. Sitting on the porch looking out at Elliot Bay, watching a hummingbird busily scarf up the lavender was so peaceful and we found that every need was anticipated and handsomely covered. We walked, walked, walked, and walked. The hike to Pike's Place Market isn't bad at all, until you get to that final climb home but the rewards are great. We had dinner in Ballard at Ray's. Fabulous food and views, and we ate in Ballard another night at Moshi Moshi. Every other night we ate at home, who would want to leave? If you have any hesitations about renting this house....forget them.

This is an amazing home! It is warm, comfortable, family friendly, a wonderful home to stay in! We were there to celebrate our daughters graduation and could not be more appreciative in how comfortable, how equipped, sparkling clean and furnished Holly and Luther have made this home. It seems that they have thought of everything including "Thomas The Tank Engine" videos for our 3 year old grandson to a wireless music system to help in the celebration. And, the master suite bathroom is just unbelievable!! We can't say enough about this house, it is just awesome. The photos do not do this house justice, it is even more beautiful than it looks in the photos. We highly recommend this property! Thank you Holly and Luther for sharing this wonderful home and for making it such a wonderful place to stay in...

Date of Stay: 04/07/10 Review Submitted: 04/15/10

We recently returned from a perfect week in Seattle, a week that was made even better by Holly and Luther's beautiful home. Everything about the place is first rate: spacious and comfortable (more than enough room for the two of us, our two boys, our friend and her daughter); impeccably decorated (the online photos don't do the place justice); stunning views of the Bay and Downtown; a perfect location in one of Seattle's nicest neighborhoods and a short walk from the Seattle Center; and five star service, with recommendations for family-friendly restaurants, toys and games for the kids, and walking guides to help us explore Seattle. After an event-filled day exploring Seattle's sites, it felt so terrific to relax in the living room or watch the ferries drift across the Bay from our bedroom window. Thank you, Holly and Luther, for a phenomenal experience. We'll definitely be back!

Date of Stay: 03/21/10 Review Submitted: 03/26/10

We just returned from our trip to Seattle in the last few hours and wanted to share how much we enjoyed this beautiful home. It was so comfortable for a family of four (with two young kids) with plenty of room to spread out and have some privacy. The master bath was sheer luxury- I really could have lived in that room alone! The chandelier over the tub was the perfect touch. All of the rooms were decorated with great care and the colors were very soothing. We felt like we could just move in permanently and not miss our own things a bit! The fabulous park down the block was an added benefit we hadn't anticipated. We also found the house to be very centrally located and accessible to (by car) to many attractions within a few miles. Thank you so much for all the care and attention you put into this house and for making it so homey for your guests. We really appreciated it. --Julie

I Was Completely Dazzeled!

Guest: Andy N. (NYC)
Date of Stay: 03/13/10 Review Submitted: 04/06/10

I spent the weekend with friends at Macallen house recently and was completely dazzled. Before you even enter the house, you are greeted by a beautifully landscaped garden and an inviting front porch, complete with a bench to relax on and enjoy the amazing view. Once inside, it's so much fun to explore all the rooms -- the house is quite large. The decor looks professionally done, yet it's very cozy and welcoming. Everywhere you look, there are gracious touches to delight the eye. Our stay was so wonderful. We were able to cook a great dinner in the well-equipped kitchen, and then eat it in the formal dining room. The beds were pretty and very comfortable, the bathrooms were absolutely gorgeous, and the place was spotlessly clean. I can't say enough about this wonderful house, and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Owner response:Hi Andy, Thank you for the lovely review; we were delighted to have you and your charming friends stay at our vacation home!

My sister and I stayed at the MaCallen House. It was a wonderful experience for us. The house is so spacious and elegant. The master suite is so beautiful, the bathroom is like something from a movie. We loved the beautiful views, and the sunsets were to die for. We played games in the game room, and were taken back to our childhood with the girly giggles. It was fun to walk to the Seattle Center and hop the monorail. We could be in the heart of downtown in minutes. Downtown Seattle is so hip and the Pike Place market was packed with shoppers. Walking on Queen Anne was so pretty with all the grand homes and the cute shopping district was so close. We were amazed that we didn't even get in our car the whole time we were in Seattle. What a perfect vacation. And can't wait to go back. Thank you Holly and Luther for making our stay so special. The Webb sisters Portland, OR

This home was the perfect place to plant ourselves during our girls' weekend to Seattle. Plenty of room to spread out, comfortable seating to curl up in and chat, cozy beds to fall into after a long day of shopping and a luxurious master bathroom. The kitchen was serviceable and met all of our needs so we didn't feel the need to be dining out for every meal. It is wonderfully decorated and you feel right at home the moment you walk in. Thank you Holly and Luther for such a wonderful home in what I think is the greatest city! We'll definitely be back.

This really is a home away from home. It's very spacious, yet wonderfully cozy. It's close to everything you come to Seattle for. The Pike Place Market, Space Needle, downtown shopping, the waterfront. But you're in a quiet neighborhood, with a view of the Sound, and you can walk to several great coffee shops and restaurants a couple blocks away. You might just end up wanting to hang out in this house, it's so comfortable. Whether it's reading, watching movies, or cooking in that fabulous kitchen, and having big dinners in that really cool looking dining room. I loved that huge table! The colors, the lighting, the warmth, this house is sexy. You'd have fun there.

My family and I stayed in this Queen Anne home while vacationing in Seattle for a wedding. The house itself is AMAZING. The owner put a lot of attention into this house. Each room looks as if it were out of a design magazine, while still being comfortable and inviting. The house had ample room for adults and small children. The basement was a nice place for the children to play. There is also a long drive located at the side of the house. Being from Texas (where things are BIG), the driveway was a bit difficult to maneuver and was a tight fit for two minivans. It was nice to have off the street parking. The location of the house is perfect for families with children. Kerry Park is only two blocks away from the house. The park has a fabulous playscape and amazing view of the Seattle skyline with Mt. Ranier. If you are lucky for clear weather, you will get phenomenal photos of the skyline. The house is also walking distance from the Seattle Center. Be warned the walk there is pretty easy and downhill. The walk back is a little more challenging after a long day cramming all the Seattle Center sights (Space Needle , Experience Music Project, and Pacific Science Center) with children, strollers, and a pretty steep hill. Dealing with owners was a pleasant experience. She went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable and had all the amenities necessary for a visit with small children. She provided a nice pack and play with a mobile for our baby and a basement full of games and videos for the older children. Communication with the owners quite easy and they promptly responded to any questions. The shower in the guest bath was not functioning when we arrived and the owners immediately had it repaired. I would highly recommend staying in this luxury home.

Date of Stay: 10/01/09 Review Submitted: 12/21/09

What an amazing job you have done on the home. You have truly anticipated your guests every need!! The beds were amazingly comfortable, the towels were luxurious and the master spa bathroom is out of this world. I spent a lot of time dancing around the magnificent spa bathroom. The acoustics are great and the radiant heating is such a treat! We used the WI-FI a lot to suss out different neighbourhoods and pull up maps. We also got very excited when we discovered that the stereo in the living room had an iPod docking station! I'm sure your neighbours will have a few tales of the shadows through the blinds. 7 stressed women, 15 bottles of luscious wine and great music - I don't think I need to elaborate! The house is truly a jewel in the stunning area of Queen Anne. Staying here puts you in the centre of everything great about Seattle. You are litterally 5-10 minutes from downtown, Ballard, Magnolia, Capital Hill and the University Area but don't forget to take a stroll through the neighbourhood as it is truly a stunning area. My only regret is that we didn't book your home for longer. Everything was tremendous. I kept pinching myself to keep present and as a reminder that it was real and not some wonderful daydream I was having. Everyone felt the same way. We would love to rebook for next year.

I lived in Seattle for almost 40 years, so I feel qualified to "rate" a rental as a tourist. And believe me, this is a gem! The home itself is beautiful, from both aesthetic and functional standpoints. It has everything! Holly and Luther have created the kind of warm, cozy atmosphere that is sorely missing from most "designer-style" places....the phrase "home away from home" captures it beautifully. It took me about five minutes to feel like I had happily "settled in." For an example, among the many sweet touches is a nifty collection of board games... ...not that you'll have time for that! The location is superb, nestled quietly away from the cacophony and confusion of downtown, yet only a quick ride from all of that. Within easy walking distance, though, you will discover so much of Seattle's "hidden charm." Breathtaking vistas, great restaurants, a quiet neighborhood begging you to stroll through it (replete with some stellar coffeehouses along the way), the cinema, Seattle Center, and the eclectic "Mercer Arts Corridor," which includes all manner of performing arts from the old standards to the quirky and new. Public transit is nearby as well. All ages will thrive here, there's something to make everyone happy! The one "drawback"? At some point, I had to leave! But you can bet I'll be back...

For those considering renting this lovely home, I highly recommend it – it’s gorgeous! This house is as wonderful in reality as it appears in the photos. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing weeklong stay. First of all, it was wonderful having all of us stay together in one place; there was plenty of room and we used all 3 levels of the house. All the thoughtful details were there: fresh flowers, yummy baked goodies for the morning, bubble bath with the wonderful soaking tub and heated marble floors (my toes are still missing the warmth), great beds, comfortable furniture and charming designer accents. The location was excellent - it’s a walking neighborhood – we had lots of fun looking at the surrounding mansions on the ‘South Slope’ of Queen Anne hill. Plus, there were excellent coffee houses just a few blocks away and 10 Mercer Restaurant (our favorite) was quite close. It was very easy to get to the downtown area and even more fun, we walked to the Pike Place Market (took about 40 minutes). We are looking forward to visiting Seattle again so we can stay at our favorite retreat house! Thank you Holly and Luther.
