My 6 sisters and I were there for a 4-day weekend getaway. We have gone on long weekend trips for 25 years, usually to Gatlinburg or a state park in either Tennessee, Georgia or Kentucky. Someone got smart this year and said "why don't we rent a place on Monteagle Mountain since 4 live in Dalton, GA and the other 3 in Nashville, TN. It was the PERFECT place in more ways than one ... no one had to drive very far and we were happy about that as we are all getting older...ha! Our mom came on these trips with us until 2009 when she passed away at age 99. She absolutely loved getting away with her girls and everywhere we went she would say "these are all of my girls and I also have 5 boys". She was so proud of her large family. We will definitely continue the tradition in her memory. We absolutely loved the cabin ... your decor made it so inviting, cozy & comfy. The views were spectacular ... hot tub was very relaxing ... we were fascinated with the hummingbirds that came to your feeder on the deck. We play a lot of games so the round table in your dining room was more user-friendly for our games and 7 chairs fit around it easily. Overall, it was voted by all 7 of us as our favorite cabin we've rented for our trips. WE WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR!!! Thanks for sharing your mountain retreat with our family.

Simply Magic!

I have just returned home after 4 days at Lil Bear .. Words can not begin to express how moved we both are by our experience as guests at Lil Bear .. the only word I have is magical .. The blues will set in when it is time to leave, and for me it was very emotional as well. This place really gave us relaxation, and touched our hearts in a huge way.. it's not something I can explain in words. for a couple's retreat Lil Bear will bring you so much joy and an emotional connection that is simply Magic! The hot tub under the stars is one of our favorite amenities , the owners go the extra mile to provide the perfect place to fall in love, re-connect and relax. Forget the TV we NEVER turned it on and I now understand why it is so small . it is not meant to distract you from just "taking it all in" .. The large deck with plenty of seating provides breathtaking view for your morning coffee or evening sunset w/ cocktails. If you need "it".. it's in there .. Ladies I forgot my blow dryer no worries there is one there...lol When reading the guest book you will see how many people Lil Bear has touched in a "BIG" way and at least for me I was completely at a loss for words when adding our entry. We will be back!

Thanks, Renee. You were so accomodating and we had such a lovely stay at your Lil' Bear. Cute cabin in the woods with all the comforts of home. Wonderful view of the valley and we had perfect weather to enjoy the sunsets from the deck. Monteagle is a nice community and has some good restaurants. Hiking the close by Foster Falls was a nice outing while we were there. We're going to return for sure.

A Wonderful Retreat

This past weekend, myself and 5 of my friends retreated at Lil' Bear Cabin. It was everything we thought it would be - quiet, cozy, yet plenty of space, easy to get to, close to fun things to do, and well-equipped for what we needed. We enjoyed it so much and most definitely would go back and stay again!

Christmas at Lil Bear Cabin

My family and I spent Christmas 2011 at Lil Bear Cabin. The cabin was cozy and warm with a fireplace. We looked out over a beautiful vista. We enjoyed the hikes at nearby Sewanee which was a treat to visit. The cabin is well equipped. I would highly recommend to Lil Bear Cabin for winter retreat.

The most breath taking view!

We drove in Friday night through heavy fog and woke up in the morning to the most breath taking view! The stay and the accomodations were great and comfy for our group. Enjoyed tha amazing sunset from the hot tub each night! Thanks for sharing your cabin!

We had a wonderful time while staying in your cabin. Someone thought of everything! It was cozy and comfortable with all the ammenities you would need or think of. Five stars definatley and we will keep your place in mind for a return visit. As well as recommend to friends and family! The cabin was nicely decorated and very cozy. The attention to detail was fabulous! Loved the Hot Tub under the stars! We loved touring around the University of the South campus.....lots of history and beautiful buildings. Great Bookstore as well! We drove to Greens View and the Cross. Both are very gorgeous and a must see! We were lucky enough to get to see the fall colors before they fell for the Winter. We loved the small shops in Sewanee, such as The Lemon Fair, Taylor's Merchantile, Locals and Woody's Bike Shop. Very neat little places. For dining we enjoyed Popa Ron's... so much so that we dined there twice! High Point is great, but pricey....but well worth it for special occasions! Again, thank you for everything. It was a fabulous place for a weekend get away from all the hustle and bustle!!!

What a picturesqe cabin! The view was a spectaculare and the setting was serene. It was a wonderful escape to come back after the many scheduled activites for my nieces wedding. We just wish we had more time to enjoy Lil Bear Cabin! As I write this the deer are right outside the cabin! Thanks for providing a cozy cabin with ALL the ammenities you might need.

My husband and I rented 'Lil Bear for our niece's wedding weekend at Sewanee. The cabin is spectacular! We decided to stay here instead of the Monteagle Inn nearby so that we could have some down time from the many family activities there and enjoy the wonderful scenery. Great decision on our part. It's just a five minute drive (which is beautiful) from the Inn, but feels like a world away. Plus, it is also very easy to find...even in the dark which is a big advantage over the Clifftops area at night! The cabin had a great layout and had all of the amenities you expect of a hotel. Love the abundance of towels! We have never rented a home before and the owner made it so absolutely easy to do at every step, whether communicating by phone or email. It was not too big for two, but would be great for a girls' weekend, a family gathering or any Sewanee function. As all of the reviews have said, the view is spectacular and the deck makes for a relaxing stay. I just wish we were able to stay there longer as our weekend was scheduled with activities and we would have loved more "porch" time at the cabin! I would highly recommend it and would love to come back here if given the chance!

This trip was everything we hoped for and more! It had been 15 years since the last time the 5 of us lifelong best friends had been in the same place at the same time. Our trip to Lil Bear was definitely the perfect spot for us to unwind, laugh, talk, reminisce, cry, laugh some more and make wonderful memories together! The cabin was well-stocked with everything we needed and a few things we didn't realize we needed. The owners have put a lot of thought and heart into providing a fantastic, cozy retreat for their guests! Oh, and the view and surrounding areas were breathtaking!!! We will definitely make many return trips to Lil Bear Cabin in the future!

What a great place to reconnect with family! We rented Lil'Bear Cabin for my birthday a three night stay. Upon entering the home I was delighted with the overall space it had to offer. Very well organized and super cozy. You can't help but notice the amazing view through the main windows, even the loft upstairs. It was so nice to have a cup of coffee and watch Red Tail Hawks fly above, to see nature coming alive in early spring. The cabin is masculine but also decorated with beautiful lighting, each bedroom is laid out in total comfort. A jacuzzi and fireplace, what more could you ask for? This is a diamond in the ruff of the mountains for those who want comfort, and class! I look forward to returning in the future!

This cabin was perfect for our getaway weekend! It is far enough away to feel like a getaway trip, yet close enough to be very convenient without all of the hours to get to Gatlinburg (and without all of the traffic!). The cabin itself is very neat and clean and is really a cozy place. The on/off switch gas fireplace is a super nice and convenient touch, especially after coming in from using the hot tub in 30 degree weather! The rooms were very neat and the bathrooms were clean and stocked with everything needed. The living area is nice and warm and it was fun to watch a movie on the DVD player while we watched it rain out the huge set of windows in the front of the cabin! And the view!!! Wow! The view is just amazing! We could have spent a couple more days just sitting and taking that in! After the weather broke, we got to enjoy a beautiful blue sky over the gorge and surrounding rim. I can't say enough about the view. It's the kind of place you put on your fall color seeing to-do list! As far as things to do around the cabin, there are a lot of outdoor activities that are really close, and the cabin is close enough to town to get groceries and to go out to eat if you are so inclined. We took some time to go tour the University of the South (Sewanee), which is just minutes from the cabin. If you have the chance and want to see some beautiful buildings and an amazing place that seems a little out of place, go check this campus out. European architecture in the middle of nowhere Tennessee??? I was surprised and thought it was incredibly beautiful. They have a cathedral there (I can't think of a better word for it) that is an art gallery of stained glass. If you like beautiful buildings and architecture, it's almost a must-see if you stay here since it is so close. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a little time away who doesn't want to drive forever to get there!

We had a wonderful time at Lil Bear... We highly recommend this cabin. We went hiking at Savage Gulf it was a little far to drive, (25-30 min maybe) but is was beautiful. The view is amazing. There are three bedrooms. The upstairs is a little larger then the two downstairs. The kitchen is a little small, but worked out wonderfully for us since it was just us two. I plan to go back.

Labor Day Weekend

My husband and I stayed at your cabin this weekend for our 1 year anniversary. It was so nice to relax and not worry about work or chores. I only wish I were able to relax in the hot tub with my husband but we are expecting our first child and didn't want to take the risk. The cabin was well stocked and provided more than I expected. My only problem was it wasn't as private as I would have liked. The neighbors were so close, when we sat on the patio we could see and hear them so I know they were aware of us. Also, the driveway was a little rough. I highly reccomend any future travelers to High Point restaurant. If you are willing to spend a few extra dollars, Their food was so delicious! Thanks again for the stay at Lil Bear cabin!

Just returned from a fabulous girls' weekend and this cabin. The place was simply perfect. Fabulous views, wonderful hot tub, comfy beds and not far from restaurants if you wanted to leave. I will definitely plan another trip for fall when the leaves are beautiful. The owners were so easy to work with and made every amenity available to us. I highly recommend this place!

We've just returned from a wonderful long weekend at Little Bear Cabin and couldn't have been more pleased. The pictures here don't do it justice. The views are absolutely magnificent, even more enjoyable when viewed from the hot tub! The cabin has a charming, rustic feel that fits right in with it's modern landscape, but is equipped with all of today's amenities (modern kitchen and bathroom, satellite, grille, laundry, etc). The owners haven't missed a thing when it comes to stocking the cabin with everything you'd need or have around your own house, and they couldn't have made the reservation process easier or have been more friendly in our conversations on the phone and online. We were there with another couple and two toddlers, and probably could have fit two more people comfortably. Our primary reason for visiting was a family reunion at Sewanee, and found the commute to take only about 10 minutes -- and it's a pretty drive in. We were sad to leave and will undoubtedly return to the cabin again and again. Thank you, Barbers, for sharing your very special cabin with us!

My family rented this house for a weekend when we were in town for a family wedding and we had a great experience. It was easy to find and everything was clean and well maintained. The owners were also very easy to work with. Next time we are in the area we would certainly considered staying their again!

We just wanted to say thank you for such a wonderful place to stay. We were able to celebrate a 90th birthday for our father as well as a 55th wedding anniversary for our parents. The cabin was wonderful and equipped with everything that we needed- absolutely everything! The view from the lovely deck overlooking the moutains was enjoyed by all! We spent many hours laughing and talking on the deck as well as reconnecting with family. Thank you again and we definately recommend this cabin for eveyone as well as the owners were wonderful to work with and answered all our questions!

Cozy and Comfortable with a Spectacular View, April 18, 2010

Lil' Bear Cabin was the perfect choice for our weekend with family. Cozy and comfortable does not even begin to describe Lil' Bear. It felt like home. It had a personal touch, with attention given to details that made it feel like a home rather than a cabin just furnished with the bare necessities as most rental cabins are. The view was spectacular as well. Everyone enjoyed their time on the spacious deck relaxing and taking in the amazing view. The deck was the choice spot for bird watching, visiting, sipping coffee, star gazing, and for forgetting about the real world in general. Our group consisted of 4 staying 2 nights as well as 3 coming in for a day of visiting. The cabin would have easily have slept all of us and after seeing what they were missing, the 3 that didn't stay the whole weekend were kicking themselves. The rental process was simple and easy with the owner providing thoughtful answers to every question that I had prior to check-in. I am highly recommending Lil' Bear to anyone out there who is in search of relaxation, a wonderful time with others, comfort beyond the ordinary, and unforgettable memories. Tami (Hixson, TN USA

It was wonderful! The cabin is absolutely delightful. All your directions were easy to follow, and everything worked perfectly. The weather provided an array of scenery from sunny to rainy to overcast and back to sunny, and it was a treat to see the valley in all its various attire. The foliage was awesome; great timing. The cabin was wonderful. The loft was great, the views were awesome and the deck with the hot tub was just perfect. We loved being close to the state parks and did some hiking and even went zip lining. It was a great weekend, and we were not ready to leave. Thanks again for a wonderful time.

Enjoyed the beautiful bluff view, more grand than the pictures can do justice!Very well stocked kitchen down to the wine bottle opener. Everything was as promised and delightful.We will be booking again!
