Our cabin is a signature home built by Ron Waldner, who has designed and handcrafted dozens of vacation properties and homes in the Lead/Deadwood area. We bought our cabin specifically for it's unique features, which set it apart from others in the Terry Peak area. The cabin is an A-frame style with high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, large sliding glass doors, and glass panel views of the outside throughout the first floor. The open floor plan in general and the large family room downstairs makes it very easy to enjoy group activities. It has great lighting inside and out, comfortable furniture, a fully equipped kitchen, a large deck with outdoor seating and a sky chair, and all the basic necessities that someone might need while staying in the hills!
This cabin is ideal for year-round use. In the winter, you can enjoy great skiing at the Terry Peak ski area just around the corner, or take your snowmobile onto one of the many nearby trails. Change it up for a day, and enjoy the tubing hill at Mystic Mines Ski area within 10 minutes drive, or just stay inside and enjoy the fireplace or curl up on the couch and throw a movie in. In the summer, there are so many things to see and do. You can stay at mountains top where its always 10 degrees cooler, or venture out to enjoy any of the many Black Hills attractions.
It's been the perfect getaway for our family! Our kids love spending time just exploring the outdoors and playing outside. Whether you live out of state, or even close by, you'll find this to be the perfect way to take a break and unwind. We're certain you'll enjoy yourselves whatever you choose to do.

Year Purchased: 2009
My wife married me to see the world (I told her that we would in the Air Force), but 7 years later......still stationed in the Black Hills. Luckily she likes it here, and I like the local flying. Frances is a design-oriented Boise gal who grew up in the backdrop of the Idaho outdoors, and Jim is a confused New Yorker who wants the best of the City (NY style pizza and bagels), but in a mountain setting. The Black Hills of SD might not be where our family is, but we call it home for now and are taking full advantage of its beautiful recreation. Our two kids, age 3 and 5, have claimed the loft but are willing to rent it out to respectable tenants (just don't run off with their stuffed animals). They are big fans of the cabin and would prefer to move up here permanently if they had their choice of residence! We have put a lot of heart and soul into our cabin in terms of craftsmanship - many days woodworking in the shop, sewing, decorating, and planting. We are happy to share it with you and hope that your stay is comfortable. Sometime in the spring of 2010 we will make a change of station. During this transition, we will have our friend Darla Conroy managing the inquiries and the property. Why the Owner Chose Lead
We've lived in Rapid City longer than anticipated, and we love the Black Hills. It was time to concentrate on enjoying what we have locally instead of always trying to escape! The convenience and accessibility of our cabin has made a huge difference already. Terry Peak is a perfect location for the cabin - practically on the slopes for downhill skiing and right out your front door for snowshoeing, cross country skiing and general winter fun! In the summer months you are central to just about everything, including motorcycle riding, trail running, ATV riding, hiking, biking, dining, shopping, and tourism. We have been very happy with the location and with the surrounding homeowners and clientele that the Terry Peak area attracts.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
The cabin is located in a wooded ski community; it is quiet and peaceful; Terry Peak area is 10 degrees cooler on the mountain in the summer months; Owners are within an hour of the rental property in case something comes up; the special features inside the cabin can only be appreciated in person (e.g. galvanized bathroom sinks, wash basin kitchen sink, specialty lighting, custom doors, Owner built furniture).

I highly recommend this property. Our experience was excellent in all ways-the atmosphere and cabin decor was welcoming, the location great, very clean and well taken care of, and the owners were helpful to us making our overall experience excellent. This property was about 45 minutes from Mt. Rushmore and an hour from Custer State Park. It is nestled in the hills of Lead and close to a grocery store, gas station, local restaurants, etc. A definite repeat for us!
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children.

We really enjoyed staying here for our week of exploring the Black Hills. The cabin is thoughtfully decorated, clean and cozy. We loved all the special touches of the cabin that made it feel authentic. Our kids loved sleeping in the loft. The cabin was very accessible and a short distance from Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Reptile Gardens and Bear Country USA. The owners were so great to rent from.

Jim and Frances are truly good people. We recently stayed in their cabin and enjoyed it immensely. This cabin is very nice, clean and modern. Great value for the price. I would recommend renting from these great property owners who are sharing their vacation home with complete strangers - just be sure to treat it as your own!
