The Papillon was clean, had everything we needed for a relaxing beach week exploring the southern outer banks. Good location to travel "to the end of the road" and up to Roanoke Island. Easy access to a beautiful beach. Quiet neighborhood.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway.

Papillon was amazing! Great views, great house, great location! The welcoming atmosphere plus the quality of the accommodation made this a rental we plan to use again. Thank you Bill and Angie for making our vacation a truly remarkable experience! We had more than enough space for 12 people plus 2 dogs. The cleanliness of the house was awesome and the location was just a few hundred yards from the beach. Also a plus is the short walking distance to Dairy Queen and a few local restaurants. Thank you again and we highly recommend Papillon to anyone who wants a top-notch outer banks experience.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners.

After the horrible hurricane Irene was so afraid we were not going to be able to go on our long waited vacation. Kept in touch with Angie who was so sweet & just as concerned as I was about us being able to make it. Anyways, we were able to make it & we couldn't of picked a better place then "Papillon" It was everything that we asked for & more. Very clean & beautiful place to spend a week (wish longer) & not worry about anything & just enjoyed ourselves so much! I would highly recommend it anyone! Bill came over the first day we were there & graciously invited me to bring my grandkids down to the hotel to swim if they wanted (Avon Community Pool closed for the season) too. The owners are very nice, and caring people & I wish them the very best in the future with "Papillon" I definitely want to go back & my grandkids didn't even want to leave & made me promise that we would come back in the future. Peace to your Hearts Bill & Angie............................Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

2010 was our first time vacationing in the Outer banks and at Papillon. Our family includes 7 adult members total and the house has more than enough room to accommodate us. The house is spacious, clean, and equipped with everything you would need in a vacation rental. Bill and Angie are great to work with. We never used the pool passes because the beach is so accessible. it is just a 3 minute walk to white sandy beaches and a beautiful view. The beach has a somewhat private and family oriented feel to it which we love. The house is near local supermarkets and restaurants just minutes away by car. The Dolphin Den is our favorite place to eat with the "Best homemade keylime pie you will ever eat"! For our 2011 stay we brought much less clothing because we knew Papillon has a quality washer and dryer. Bill and Angie have worked to make Papillon as home like as possible with many quality upgrades you would find in a much pricier rental. We unfortunately will not be able to vacation in 2012 at Papillon because we are planning and paying for our daughter's wedding but...Look out 2013 we will be back and this time there will be 8 of us! I highly recommend this rental!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have been to many US shore destinations for our family vacations and are putting Avon, NC at the top of our list. Papillon is a large, welcoming home, perfect for larger parties - especially those with young children. It offers all the comforts you would expect, with convenient access to one of the best beaches around in (what I think) is the best town on the island. Two master suites make this great for a two-family vacation like ours. Although the house does not have it's own pool, the owners provide access to a neighboring community pool. But honestly, with Avon's pristine beach at your doorstep, the pool is definitely optional. Angie and Bill self-managed the property and were incredibly responsive to each and every question we had. If you are looking for an utterly relaxing stay in a great home, this is the house for you.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have visited this area many times and love the outerbanks. This was our first stay at Papillon and we were very impressed. Everything was very clean and is able to accommodate a large group comfortably. The kitchen has everything you need to make home cooked meals, the hot tub is wonderful, the views are beautiful. The sound of the ocean at night is very soothing. Also nice to use the house phone and able to make long-distance calls free with Magic Jack! This is a very nice place to stay and owners live nearby!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/6

About the owner: Angie & Bill Rapant built "Papillon" as a Hatteras Island retreat in 2002. They own and operate the Cape Pines Motel in Buxton, NC, a short drive from Avon. Not satisfied with the management of their vacation rental home, they decided to rent the house directly with guests as a means of providing better rental prices for guests, and for ensuring a truly comfortable stay for all guests. With over 20 years of 4 & 5 Star hotel experience, the Rapants are truly dedicated to making guests feel at home at their home on the Outer Banks.
Why the Owner Chose Avon:
Angie & Bill fell in love with the quaint town of Avon on Hatteras Island. The natural beauty of the island has made this a special place for them. With over 20 years of 4 & 5 Star hotel experience, Angie & Bill are pleased to accommodate families in their special home in Avon on Hatteras Island.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Unlike so many of the houses on Hatteras Island, this home is meticulously maintained. Angie & Bill enjoy making this home available to guests from near and far. You will be amazed at the cleanliness of this home, and you will truly feel at home. Avon is close to the kiteboarding and windsurfing areas in both Rodanthe and Avon/Buxton.
