Worst San Buenaventura hotel!

This hotel complex was awful! We rented a house to sleep 6 for a sufficient amount of money. The house was cold and dark. It smelt musty and obvious water problems. There was also an ant infestation in many areas of the house. When I talked to the owner they said, we don't like to use chemicals so unless you are really bothered we would prefer to leave them. On top of the house issues...the food was awful and the pool wasn't clean. It had a nice green alage tint to it. Don't stay here!
Owner response:This was a complete surprise ! As you can see in previous reviews, we are accustomed to receiving accolades- not bad news. The owner talked to the guests when they came in and ofered them an extra bed without additional charge. When we heard that there were ants in the room, we sprayed but not to overdo the use of insecticides. We never heard more about this. Our place is in a natural reserve and insect life is a fact of life. The owner was available throughout the stay and never received any complaints about the food or the swimming pool. We are truly sad about this customer´s disatisfaction as well a sorry that we weren´t informed of it while they were here.

My 6 yr. old daughter and I stayed here for a week. It was wonderful. Cannot beat the location. The views of the lake were gorgeous. It was a easy (but bumpy) tuk tuk ride into Panajachel, but far enough out to enjoy the peace and quiet. The Nature Preserve was a short walk away. The accommodations were very comfortable and had a well stocked kitchen. The staff went out of their way to help when asked. The kayaks are a must! So beautiful out on the water! There was a beautiful swimming pool and a play area for children. There is a restaurant on property, we had trouble figuring out when it was open and when not. But, we shopped and ate in every night. I will definately be recommending this to friends and will stay again on our next visit.

I came to Hotel San Buenaventura with 3 friends for a week-long vacation. From the minute we arrived we were warmly received and treated like we were the only guests staying there. Natalia, the owner, was there to greet us, along with her fantastic staff. She took us to our house, and we were in complete awe. It was more beautiful and perfect than any of us had imagined. The picture doesn't do it justice. The house was very spacious and comfortable, and decorated with pretty and colorful guatemalan art. The views from the house of Volcan San Pedro, etc. are incredible. The house included a full kitchen, in which we enjoyed cooking food we bought in town at the grocery store, and fruit and veggie market. The hotel also has a good restaurant which serves guatemalan cuisine...and of course, there is an array of different cuisines to choose from in town. Natalia and her staff were always happy to help in our planning of daily activities, including volcano hikes and trips to other villages around the lake, as well as with restaurant and bar recommendations. However, the hotel itself, and the nature reserve it is located on, offer plenty of their own great options. The hotel has it's own dock, a pretty, and well kept infinity pool with a great view, as well as a wonderful Mayan Sauna. One of our favorite activities was ziplining through the jungle at the nature reserve, where extra bonuses included monkeys, coatis, and good hiking. I would really recommend this hotel to anyone...the service and attention to guests cannot be beat, and there are activities for all ages and interests. There are plenty of options for those who want adventure and for those who want total relaxation. Our expectations were exceeded, and I look forward to going back again. Thank you Natalia and Staff!! You're the best!
