The Southern Cross. It may not get any better than this! Seriously! What are you looking for in your vacation home? Play time on the beach? Okay, that would be less than 100 yards from the front door by way of your deeded boardwalk beach access. Fishing in Little Lagoon? Okay, that is only 50 yards out the back door. Swimming? Try the pool to the back of the house. Quiet, peaceful relaxation? Try awakening in your bed to a view of the gulf, or sitting in your living room looking out on the gulf, or hearing the waves crash at night from one of your decks with total unobstructed views of the gulf. This house has it all! Located 3.7 miles from the intersection of Hwy 59 on West Beach Blvd, you are close to the great restaurants and shopping but yet in a very quiet part of Gulf Shores.

This house has great unobstructed views of the Gulf of Mexico out the front door. It also has great views of Little Lagoon out the back door where you can fish (spotted trout, red fish, flounder, stingrays and many other fish all call the lagoon home) and crab day and night. Of course, you can clean your fish at the fish cleaning station at the pier, which goes out into the lagoon. Have your own boat? Launch it using our boat ramp. The kids will also enjoy the shared swimming pool. This is NOT a duplex ... this is your own house. Very hard to find a 3 bedroom, 3 bath house with unobstructed gulf views, lagoon fishing, swimming pool and in a quiet area!

This home features 3 bedrooms, all with queen size beds plus bunk beds in the downstairs bedroom. There are also 3 full baths. Two bedrooms and two baths are upstairs and both have incredible views of the gulf and open onto a large deck. These bedrooms also have sitting areas. The third bedroom and bath is downstairs and looks out onto the lagoon and also opens onto a deck. There are tables and chairs on all of the decks. Also on the first floor are a kitchen, eating area, living room, and laundry room. Sliding doors take you from the living room onto a first floor deck overlooking the gulf. The living room has ample sitting options, plus both a queen sleeper sofa and twin sleeper loveseat. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need. Eating options include a decorative table and chairs with a great gulf view or pull a stool up to the bar separating the kitchen and living room. There is a 37' high definition TV in the living room and 26' high definition TVs in each bedroom. Plus, there are 3 DVD players and an X-Box with game for the kids. Speaking of games, there are lots of games, books, puzzles and toys for everyone to enjoy. Finally, don't worry about your vehicle since you can park up to three vehicles under the house.

What else can we tell you? Did we mention the full size washer and dryer in a separate downstairs room? Or that the living room and master bedrooms have sliding glass doors onto decks overlooking the gulf? Or that this is a very quiet location where you can really relax? Or that the house has a colorful beach decor? Or that you can sleep as many as 11 in the home? Come see for yourself. As the song says 'when you see the Southern Cross for the first time, you understand now why you came this way.'

Is The Southern Cross booked the week you need it? We have 3 other properties. If you have kids then check out Fun In The Sun, vrbo number 332813. This is a 3 bedroom, 3 bath townhouse on West Beach Blvd less than 50 yards from The Southern Cross. This unit sits right on Little Lagoon and is perfect for those with small kids wanting to play in the water! If you want to be right on the gulf then look at A Whale Of A View, vrbo number 398689. This is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath condo (5D) at The Whaler on East Beach Blvd. This unit may have the best gulf views of any unit in all of Gulf Shores with gulf views from every room in the house! If you have a big family reunion, go to Sweet Dreams, vrbo number 291114. This is a very large house with 8 bedrooms, 5.5 baths and a very large, private pool on West Beach Blvd.

The Southern Cross was a great house for our trip to Gulf Shores. As described, the beach access via boardwalk was right across the street, and the dock on the lagoon was only steps away from the back of the house. The sleeping accommodations were perfect for our group of 5 adults, and the house itself was well appointed and very clean. The house was very accessible from Hwy 59 (just a couple of miles), along which most of the restaurants/ shopping is located. The house has a great view of the gulf from the deck, which we enjoyed when we weren't down at the beach. We played several great golf courses in the area, with Rock Creek in Fairhope being the best in our opinion. The weather was great all week (80's and sunny) and perfect for both golf and the beach. It was great doing business with Mark, and I'd highly recommend the Southern Cross for anyone looking to vacation at the beach!

If you are looking for a nice, quiet home on the beach, you can not beat this location. You can sit on the deck outside the master bedroom and not only can you see the Gulf, but you can hear the waves crashing on the beach. Took 8 teenagers for a week at the beach and we had plenty of room in the house. Three full baths were a definite plus. The weather our week was cold for Gulf Shores- three mornings in the low 30's but that did not stop us from having a great time. Far enough from the high rises that there isn't a great deal of traffic on the street but close enough that you are in the middle of everything in an instant. Mark was great to work with and even went the extra mile to help return an item that had been left behind. Would absolutely stay here again.

The house is in a great location that makes you feel as if you're on a quiet, secluded beach, but also not too far from the tourist parts of Gulf Shores. A group of myself and 10 other college students spent the day laying out on the porch or the beach and then would travel closer to the high rise condos to meet up with other UGA students. The house was very nice and had plenty of space for all of us. Great owner who was extremely helpful and easy to work with even though we were Spring Breakers. Also, we loved the neighbors.

This place certainly covered all the bases for our family of 5 with 3 teenage sons. Can't beat the location: we fished the surf right across the street among the jumping dolphins and landed a few redfish (one close to 20 lbs). We also played a few rounds of golf nearby - Craft Farms (36 holes) and Peninsula (27) are highly recommended. The Naval Aviation Museum in P-cola is definitely worth visiting and the Flora Bama is a must-see for people watching. Great walks along the beach, and the local seafood markets offer abundantly fresh fare as well. Accommodations are very spacious and will most definitely come back in the future!

This was our second year in a row staying at the Southern Cross. The kids' grandmother and aunt joined us this year, The house was the ideal size for the four adults and two children in our vacation party. The 3 full baths were convenient for us all. Having a pool was a nice break from the sand of the beach. The views from the decks could be a postcard! We have been very satisfied with both times we have spent at Southern Cross and look forward to renting here again.

The reason my family and I chose to rent with this owner was due to the many reviews I read about Mark. Each comment I read expressed how kind and accommodating Mark was, and how easy he was to work with. Well...they were all true! We had actually rented a condo from him and when we arrived it had not been cleaned. When I called Mark, without hesitation he gave me the address of another unit he owned and immediately offered it to us at no extra cost. We drove a short distance and found this home that more than accommodated our family. This home was clean and well maintained. It was located just steps from the beach via a boardwalk. It also offers a fishing pier out back as well as a pool. My family found this to be relaxing retreat. Even if you don't need a house, I would recommend viewing Mark's other properties. He is a man of his word and I found him to be an honest business man. Thanks to you Mark, and your family for sharing a bit of your paradise!!

Myself, my husband, mom/dad, and brother/sis-in-law all stayed at The Southern Cross the first week of September. The house is beautiful with a great view. The ocean is just a short walk from the house (2min max). You are very close to everything in Gulf Shores, just a 15 minute drive to Foley, and just 17 minutes to Orange Beach. It was perfect. Though the pool got used very little, it was nice to have it as well. I would definitely come back to stay again. It was so relaxing to sit on the porch at night and hear the waves. Thanks guys, for letting us use your place!!!

Just returned from a weeks stay in Gulf Shores, AL at Southern Cross. We had a wonderful trip with my daughter and her family which amounted to 4 adults and 4 children. Southern Cross provided all of our needs. Each of the three bedrooms had their own bath which helped provide a little privacy as well as the abililty to clean up quickly after a day on the beach. The kitchen was so great to be able to cut some expenses by having a place to prepare some of our meals. Everything was there that we needed. The washing machine and dryer was a god send, we did a tub of clothes a day and came home with no dirty laundry! We have a few problems on our arrival but Mark was quick to take care of everything. The property location was great. We were away from all the tourist traffic and had wonderful access to the beach. Yet, it was only a short drive to find a fantatic place to eat or to make that quick trip to Walmart. I would highly recommend staying at Southern Cross. It was the perfect home away from home. Nothing like waking up to a cup of coffee and view of the Gulf from your own private decks on multiple levels.

This is our 3rd year visting here. Grandkids and older kids love the access to the beach and the pool. One evening we had a shrimp boil with all the trimmings--aroma filled the area. The Southern Cross is the perfect place to have nothing to do and all day to do it. Looking forward to next year

Upon researching Gulf Shores, AL for our Summer beach vacation, we came across The Southern Cross. I was a little leery to drive 1000 miles to spend a week in Gulf Shores, but I am glad I did. Let me just say, it doesn't get any better then this. It is exactly what the homeowner describes. The Gulf was a mere 100 yards away from the front door and could be seen from either of the decks at the front of the house. The Lagoon, another 50 yards to the back of the house, was also a treat. If this wasn't enough, there is a small little pool on the complex the kids loved because it was not deep and warm. Any other accommodations that you required were all within a 3-5 mile drive to the main strip into Gulf Shores. The home was clean, warming and decorated to match the beach atmosphere. Rooms were spacious and there was a large eat in kitchen. We visited the beach daily to swim and collect shells. Even took up some fishing in the Little Lagoon. The kids really loved fishing...one night we had a fish on every 30 seconds !!! The proximity to other tourist location made this house even more appealing. We visited the National Aviation museum in Pensacola, FL (30-45 minutes away), Fort Morgan (30 minutes away), the USS Alabama in Mobile (1 hour away), and Alligator Alley (40 minutes away). We tried numerous local restaurants...Ribs and Reds (Best Royal Red Shrimp in town), Steamers (Best seafood platter), Gulf Shores Grill (Decent food, but pricey), Hazels Nook (Best Breakfast and inexpensive), Mikee's (Great fried all you can eat Whitefish) and you can't forget Scoops (Best ice cream). If you are looking for a home that has it all and more, then this is the place for you. Mark (homeowner) was very easy to work with and answered all of my questions within hours. Don't miss this gem of a place !!!

About the owner: We are Mark and Janet Binkley from Starkville, MS. Janet works at Mississippi State University and I am retired from MSU and own a consignment store in Starkville. We are looking forward to an early retirement in a few years and moving to Gulf Shores. We have a son who is a senior in college and a daughter who is a sophomore in college. With the kids 'normally' out of the house, we discovered that we enjoy being at the beach. After looking at literally hundreds of homes along the coasts of Alabama and Florida, we decided on this home in Gulf Shores. To us, it is the perfect spot, complete with the beach and gulf, fishing in the lagoon, shopping and great restaurants, and all in a quiet location. We would love for you to visit our home and have a great vacation! Mark & Janet Binkley Starkville, MS

The Unique Benefits at this House:
We feel that The Southern Cross (we know, you can't see it from here!) is the perfect vacation home. Here is a typical day for us at our home ... see if this works for you. First, I tend to be up at sunrise while my wife likes to sleep in. I walk less than 50 yards out the back door of the house to the pier on Little Lagoon. There I fish and enjoy watching both the sunrise over the water and the wildlife. Feeding the bait fish to the herons who stand patiently behind you as you fish is always fun. When my wife awakes, she walks across the street on the deeded beach access to enjoy a morning dip in the gulf and catch some rays. Later, we meet back at the house to have lunch while sitting on one of the three decks (two facing the beach, one facing the lagoon) all of which have great water views. After lunch, we head to the pool at the back of the house for some swimming and relaxation. That evening, we leave the peace and quiet at our house and drive 3 miles into Gulf Shores to have seafood at any of the great restaurants or do a little shopping. Returning home, we take a moonlite walk on the beach looking for sea turtles and go to the lagoon to set the fishing poles out for the night in case a fish decides to have a midnight snack. We then sit on the deck and listen to the waves crash on the shore. Talk about peaceful! To finish the day, we watch a favorite TV show or a DVD on the 37' HD TV in the living room or on the 26' HD TV in our bedroom. Sound like a perfect day? It is to us too!!! And should the kids join us? Well, in addition to the fishing, swimming and playing on the beach and in the gulf, they can relax in their private rooms, each with TVs, one with DVD player and X-box, or play some of the games we have in the house for everyone to use. Oh, and if you just have to get on your computer to check email or that dreaded facebook account, then you can use the wireless high speed connection anywhere in the house or on the decks.
