Casa Gavira is a beautifully restored historic home, very centrally located and offered at an affordable price. It has lots of space and areas to relax or work.
The main home on the first level has 2 bedrooms 2 full baths.
Upstairs off the rooftop terrace is an additional 1 bedroom/1 full bath penthouse apartment with additional kitchen which can be added for larger groups.
(So when adding the rooftop apartment the home has a total of 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms)

It is nicely located on a tiny quiet plaza, away from traffic and noise, in the center of Guanajuato less than a one minute walk down to the Mercado (Market) Hidalgo.
Plaza San Fernando is about a 3 minute walk and the Jardin Union is less than a 10 minute walk through the center of town.

Once in the tiny plaza you are welcomed by a spectacular view of the Mercado’s clock tower and the city of Guanajuato. The home is tucked in the corner of this little plaza with a large towering tree in front of the home.

The front door enters into the large, open living and dining room with high wood-beamed ceilings and antique furniture. On one side of the large room is the cozy living lounge that surrounds the fireplace. On the other side of the room is a dining room table that seats 6-8 people. There is also a desk with books and a stereo with a music library for your enjoyment while dining or sitting by the fireplace. The spiral staircase leads you to the rooftop garden terraces with magnificent views of Guanajuato.

From the main living/dining room a large archway leads you to the central foyer. The entrances to the 2 bedrooms with beautiful en suite baths are found on each side of the foyer. Each bedroom has a double bed, an armoire, and a vanity/desk.

While continuing towards the back of the home you enter into the sunlit, plant-filled, and glassed-covered courtyard complete with a fountain and hammock. The courtyard provides a refreshing place for breakfast or lounging in the hammock to the sound of the fountain.

Connected off one side of the interior courtyard is the fully-equipped, traditional Mexican styled kitchen.
It is a real treat to shop just a minute away at the renowned Mercado Hidalgo and cook your meals or prepare margaritas in this beautiful kitchen. There are also Mexican cookbooks to assist you. Off the other side of the courtyard is a second entrance to the large Master bathroom for convenience while entertaining.

Up on the rooftop are 2 plant-filled terraces, a lower terrace and an upper terrace. On the lower terrace there is the washer/dryer closet, access to the rooftop apartment, and a table and chairs.

The upper terrace is covered and has amazing views of Gustav Eiffel's Clocktower on top of the Mercado Hidalgo and beautiful views of the city and surrounding mountains of Guanajuato.

The rooftop apartment is great for larger groups, additional privacy for smaller groups, as an art/yoga studio, office, or for entertaining while on the rooftop.
Note: Private access to the rooftop terraces are included with the downstairs. So it is not necessary to rent the rooftop apartment to have access to the rooftop terraces.

*Due to the terrain of Guanajuato, most homes are located on hillsides. Casa Gavira is located on a hillside and is accessed by pedestrian only alleyways with stairs. No cars or traffic pass in front of the home. Must be able to walk up and down stairs to arrive at Casa Gavira.

Thanks to the owner for making sure everything was comfortable and right with our stay. House was cozy and and had a great view from the rooftop terrace. I'll be coming back and I'm sure I'll be connecting with the Casa Gavira. Couldn't have asked for a better place to experience a beautiful town such as Guanajuato.

Casa Gavira definitely lived up to its billing as a charming, historic home! For those of you who travel to Mexico to appreciate its history, art, and culture, this home is a feast for the senses. The owner's choices: retaining authentic Mexican tile floors, exposed brick walls, heavy wooden beams, etc. show a real respect for Mexican architecture. And the furnishings, color choices, and folk art complete the ambiance. You feel as though you have stepped back in time in this space and it's easy to imagine the city's history here. The house is unusually well stocked for a rental. We found gourmet coffee and filters. Bottled water. Some basic spices and cooking oil. This made preparing a meal easier. The linens and bedding were in keeping with the character of the house; quite beautiful! There were ample towels and wash cloths. The mattresses were on the very firm side, but that's a question of personal preference. Particularly lovely is the interior glassed in patio and the rooftop patio with stunning views of the city. We loved the central location. A word to the wise: there is a challenging stairwell to negotiate to and from the house to the streets below and one should be fit and able to handle the exertion required. Probably more than physical stamina, one should be prepared for the altitude (6200 ft. above sea level) that takes a day or two to acclimate oneself to. Just pause, catch your breath, and then continue. You'll be fine. The house is near every major plaza and landmark so for those who love to explore, the location is ideal. We walked everywhere. We spent a wonderful 9 days at Casa Gavira and would recommend it to friends and family without reservation.

Thanks for the personal attention during our stay in Guanajuato. The house is set up well for multiple couples to share and explore the city. The rooftop deck was a wonderful place to relax and view the central part of the city. Ramiro, the property manager, picked us up at the airport and give a mini tour on our ride to the house. He also brought us on a tour one afternoon to a silver mine out of town along with a few pottery shops. New visitors to Guanajuato should take advantage of this service. Thanks again. Marilyn

The house had a great location. Hostess gave us all the information we needed to get there and away safely and helped with lots of information about the town itself...sights to see etc. It was great to be close to the market so we could get a few things each day we needed to cook meals. Everything was only a few stair steps away.

Casa Guavira in unbelievably Charming! There are so many wonderful details in this home. From beautiful light fixtures, to attractive furniture, pretty tile, healthy plants.... we had EVERYTHING we needed for our first time stay in amazing Guanajuato. I can not say enough about all the thoughtful, useful, ethnic and whimsical decorations in every room. There is lots of living space indside and we enjoyed the little plaza and tree bench just outside the front door, when we did not want to take the stairs to the upper patios for the fascinating panoramic view. This Mexican retreat is very quiet but yet very convenient to the heart of town after descending the 59 stairs. The mercado is right at the foot of the stairs where we bought our fresh food and homemade totillas. The large super market was a short walk the other direction. We spent many hours exploring the streets, shops, churches and sites of the city always anxious to return to our comfortable Casa. This is a great value and give syou the true flavor of Gunajuato. THANK you for all the amenities and loving decor! I would recommend this rental for up to 6 people in the main house to anyone who can climb staris. Also would be great for 2 couples.

We spent 2 months this winter in Guanjuato. Casa Gavira was truly our home for the duration. The property was absolutely perfect. Spacious and comfortable with all the ammenities one would expect. Its location was just perfect, just above Mercado Hidalgo and a short 15 minute pleasant walk to Jardim Union. We were met at the airport by the property manager, Ramiro, even though our plane was 1 hour late. Waiting for us at Casa Gavira with a bottle of wine was the owner, Mindie, a most charming lady who immediately made us feel right at home. We truly enjoyed our stay and can recommend 100% Casa Gavira. The view from the rooftop is stunning and Guanajuato itself a beautiful, lively, "authentic" Mexican city. So much to see, so many good restaurants. If we return we will be sure to stay at Casa Gavira again.

Casa Gavira location is perfect if the 58 steps up from street level don't bother you. Only takes a few minutes and a little huffing and puffing. Since it is so close to the main part of town, everything you need is within a short walking distance. A better location would be hard to find. The house has everything you'd need to do a little cooking on your own if you want to. Very quiet at night. People in the neighborhood are to friendly too. And Mindi is a jewel to work with. We had flight delays on the way down and she was most helpful in re-arranging our airport pickup. Romero, the house manager, is also most helpful and with perfect English, is also a great tour guide. Don't miss the Symphony which plays every Friday evening, and wow, what a performance. They have no schedule but it's associated with the University. We can't wait for next winter and a return trip.

This is my first review...ever, but I felt Casa Gavira is highly worthy of my praise. First, the booking process was very easy and Mindy responds quickly. Second, the directions are flawless, making an easy transition from bus to taxi to house. Third, when we arrived we were just in awe with the accomodations and made immediate friends with the neighbors and their kids. Plus, the property manager was there waiting for us to give a thorough walk-thru and then immediately left to give us the house to ourselves. Yes, the house is authentically Mexican in terms of plumbing (paper goes in trash), never met one that wasn't. But who cares with such views, decor and uniqueness. We had an amazing trip with our children, ages, 13,9,and 4, who never wanted to leave the house because of their new local friends. Make sure you visit the mercado up the alley and say hi to Martin, who will provide you with a cold beer or soda pop anytime you want! This place was centrally located, safe and just plain awesome. Do not go anywhere else, trust me!

Casa Gavira was professional to deal with from start to finish. The home is in the ideal location and we enjoyed the authenticity of the house that is tucked into the neighbouhood; real, vibrant, colourful Mexico. When you leave the house on foot, in about a minute you are down the stairs to the Mercado Hidalgo where we bought fresh fruits, veggies and fresh tortillas multiple time a day. A bakery is around the corner from the market and we had fresh baked goods every morning. The main supermarket is about a 5 minute walk. We left the house with 4 kids aged 4-9 and walked the maze of cobblestone pathways for many hours in a different direction every morning. The house is in the perfect location for fit, active people! The roof top patio was a wonderful spot to enjoy a coffee in the cool morning air and watch/listen to the city come to life. The kids played on the roof top patio in the afternoons when we were having our siesta. They loved it! Casa Gavira was also in the perfect spot for the 8 of us to walk with our luggage down to the main street and hail cabs to the bus station on the last day. It was a wonderful vacation and I hope to visit again!

This property we rate a very good. We really like the authentic style of this colonial home and the quiet neighborhood is a real added plus. A once over for dusting the overhead lights and surroundings would be the only additional request we would make. We really loved the central location making walking to everything so easy. We are active so the stairs where not a problem but seen as a plus to get a nice exercise. The owner is very nice and really helped us with some great ideas on what to do in the city, we did things we would not have known to do without her help. We can't wait to recommned Casa Gavira to friends and family. This city and home provided a really unique travel experience. Guanajuato has some incredible sights, cultural activities and pretty good restaurants at a very reasonable price. Highlight where the Symphony at Teatro Principle, Diego Rivera Museo, a sunday concert and drinks and horsdevoures at the Gene Byron museo and just discovering the city by foot and the convienent city buses. Our trip overall we give a 9 out of 10! Enjoy Guanajuato and Casa Gavira!
