The house is well located and the view is great. But this holiday turned out to be a nightmare. My mother in law visited us (unexpected) and brought her dog (unexpected). This was forbidden within the contract but what could we do? Well, the owner decided to keep the full security payment despite the fact that the dog (a small one) did no damage at all (!!!). Then he refused to justify his decision. And then I have to spend time with HomeAway to try to find a solution. A nightmare! The paradox is that the house is already full of small animals, including bugs and even fieldmouses, who clean the floor kitchen even when you are there. Avoid at all priceā¦
Owner response:We take pride in providing our guests a pet-free environment and may folks have told us how much they appreciate knowing that they will not have to worry about pet allergies, pet dander or a clean area outside where their kids can play. I'm sorry our recent guest chose to categorize his entire visit in this way. He vacationed with a dog in our house and our rental agreement is very clear about not allowing pets.

We enjoyed a wonderful long weekend in this great spot! Skiing during the day (5 minutes away) followed by a hot sauna and then dinner in Lake Placid at night (10 minutes away). Does it get any better? Yes! The view in the morning sun was stunning! Everything was as advertised and it was a bit larger than we expected. the Kitchen and living area was really great to hang out in. One tip...Careful turning around in the driveway! It was a bit narrow because of the snow and I lost a taillight because I didn't watch behind me when I was backup up!

We were looking for a house/cabin close to Whiteface mountain. The location was perfect (only a 5-10 minute drive). The view from the kitchen / living room was breathtaking. We were able to enjoy the sauna & outdoor fire pit. The way that the house is decorated and situated made the stay comfortable. One critique is that there are a lot of stairs and only one shower. We had 6 people and getting ready for dinner was time consuming as we had to wait to use the shower. Lake Placid was a very cute town (we went ice skating and walked around) & was only a 15-20 minute drive from the house. Overall, great experience and would book again.

Excellent house with stunning views. Pros: private, great dining and family area, great for kids, fantastically equipped kitchen, great sauna. Cons: bedrooms are little bit small. The owner is great person to do business with and all questions were resolved in a timely manner.

We enjoyed our stay - the loj is ideally located close to Whiteface with the spectacular view advertised. The amenities are generally very nice - there is a well-resourced kitchen area, a charming living room area (with the spectatular view), dishwasher, big eating area. A cross between a true rustic cottage experience (complete with the obligatory mice) and a more upscale loj. The loj is not as big as we expected based on the photos, as half the building is closed off. There is no master bedroom in the rental area, and the two small bedrooms in the basement suffer from poor air quality, being close to the oil tank, with strong fuel oil smell, as well as smoke from the wood stove, which has a strong tendency to smoke. Still, all in all a comfortable place to hang out after skiing - and we had a lovely time.

What a GREAT surprise! I was wisked away here for a surprise proposal! And of course I said YES! This place makes such a nice memory. I will never forget Whiteface at sunset. I love, I mean LOVE the kitchen. It was so nice to get engaged here during leaf peak. It will be something I never forget! The details in this house make it so special from the pinecone curtain rods in the bath room to the amazing paintings all through the house. What a great place!

Thank you for allowing our family to enjoy your wonderful slice of heaven in the mountains. We had a great time, after a day of skiing, enjoying the fantastic view of Whiteface from the deck and couldn't have asked for better weather. We did use the sauna one evening and that was really a blast. Very relaxing.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a quiet and secluded retreat spot in the Adirondacks. We found that and more at Juniper Hill Loj! The loj, fully appointed with a thoughtful and personal touch through and through, graciously welcomes any traveling guest with its cozy, rustic look and feel. The charm of Juniper Hill Loj is highlighted with magnificent views of Whiteface Mountain from a sprawling deck and large windows of the very homey A-frame chalet. The owners were very accomodating and easy to deal with. We will be recommending Juniper Hill Loj to all of our friends and family!

When we saw the pictures that Juniper Hill Loj had to offer, we knew we were in for a treat. This little hideaway is conveniently located about a mile from the entrance to Whiteface mountain which is great because we beat the crowds every morning. If you are not a skier, have no fear, there is plenty to do in Lake Placid (just a 20min drive). Tour the old Olympic structures or shop downtown. There are also two excellent breweries right in the heart of downtown. Save some money while on vacation and utilize the full kitchen that awaits back at the chalet. Everything you need to prepare meals is there at your disposal. With a million dollar view of the mountain right out the sliding door, it's hard to not sit and stare and Mother Nature. The wood burning sauna is a quality amenity at the loj. Five of us sat in the over sized wood barrel relaxing after a long day (just bring ur flashlight). After baking at 174 degrees F, we would star gaze on the enormous deck where even an amateur could pick out the shapes of the constellations (wow was the sky gorgeous at night!!). Once we got cold or tired, we'd retire to some wine and board games by the piano--sitting on the floor was nice because of the radiant floor heat ;) I can say without a doubt we will return to Juniper Hill Loj as soon as we can. I think the next trip we will plan a summer getaway with out mountain bikes and hiking boots. There is so much to see in this little nook of nature. Thank you opening your doors to us for an amazing trip!!

We did a weekend ski trip here during the December 2008 snow storm(s). The lifties at Whiteface said it was the best powder day they've seen in years, but I don't know if the white-knuckle drive through the blizzard would have been worthwhile without the awesome accommodation at Juniper Hill Lodge. The chalet itself is a wonder... Rustic and cozy but with all the modern comforts... It's full of 'found objects' ingeniously incorporated into the architectural design. From a tree branch for a shower curtain (don't laugh, it works and looks great), to recovered old doors, to a whiskey barrel made into a wood-fired sauna - Someone put a lot of thought - and a lot of years into making this place what it is. And it is wonderful. The place is so fully equipped, it feels like you've borrowed a friends cottage. Family photos, magazines, a baby grand piano, personal effects are everywhere, with a friendly hand-written sticky-note if something is reserved for family use only. The owner was a breeze to deal with, payments and security deposits went back and forth using PayPal, and all were processed promptly. I'm already planning my next trip to Whiteface and Juniper Hill Lodge.

Great place to relax before and after the Ironman (2x) ! Beautiful deck and view. Excellent location for accessing the race site and viewing the race. Support team had an easy time moving around to view the race. We saw all of the early morning swim, we watched the bike portion from 3 different locations and made it back to Lake Placid to view the run and the finish. This location made it quite nice for traveling around on race day. The house was really nice. Plenty big enough to hang out at and cook for all our friends--the kitchen is great! We also slept out on the deck one night because the stars were just incredible! All in all we had a grand time and this rental was perfect! Thanks!

Juniper Hill Lodge is a great place to get away from it all and relax. Our family (two adults and two teenagers) needed a place to relax and spend some time together; and Juniper Hill Lodge was just the place. Accommodations were wonderful. Very clean and comfortable. Enough to do for all. We played games and hiked together as a family and spent hours laying on the deck outside at night looking at the billions of stars!! Great memories!
