We spent a week at the Coronado Apartments, Apartmenmt #1, and had a great stay. Our two bedroom was clean and attractively decorated. It was just a 5 minute walk to a broad sandy beach. The coastal trail ran for miles along the beach in both directions. We walked all the way to the Mavericks Beach, where they hold the Mavericks Giant Wave Surfing contest every year. Pillar Point Harbor was an easy walk and was quite beautiful. Fishermen were selling Dungeness crab and fish directly from their boats. Ralph, the owner, was very helpful and gave us names of several fantastic restaurants which we enjoyed. Sam’s Chowder House was a 10 minute walk, and had indoor and outdoor seating where we enjoyed wonderful seafood while watching the sun set over the Pacific. The Mediterranean restaurant Gibraltar was a great find and a most memorable dining experience. We enjoyed being able to cook our breakfasts and some other meals in the fully equipped kitchen. We only used the king bed and found it to be very comfortable with lots of thick, warm bedding! Our two excursions to San Francisco went quite well. It was about a 30 minute drive and we enjoyed taking in the many sights of the city! We also drove Highway 1 to Santa Cruz, a beautiful one hour drive and great town to visit. The week was a great getaway for us, and we loved the area!

My husband, son and I stayed here for three nights to attend a wedding in Half Moon Bay. Ralph, the owner, was extremely helpful and prompt in responding to emails and any questions that we had. The apartment was very clean and gave us much more space than a hotel room, which was nice while travelling with a child. However we were disappointed in the quality of the apartment, particularly when compared to other rentals that we have stayed in at a similar price point. It is an older building and it doesn't appear that much has been updated recently. There was a slight musty smell that we noticed each time we entered the unit. Most amenities were looked after, however there was no hair dryer in the bathroom and despite offering an iron, there was no ironing board; we made do with the kitchen counter. The kitchen did not have any tea towels and only a dirty sponge to use for dishes. We made do with extra bathroom towels (of which there were plenty). Laundry detergent was available, which was a huge help. However the washer was exceptionally loud, so much so that we couldn't hear our son if he was crying in the bedroom while it was running. The posting noted 'luxury linens', however the sheets felt quite old and worn to us. Additionally, there was no white duvet on the second bed (as depicted in the photo), but rather an old looking comforter. Finally, the heating is tricky to manage, and it was chilly at night. There are small heaters in each room, however they seemed to either blast hot air to make it too hot or not enough to make a difference. Overall, our stay was enjoyable. However we could have had a suite at one of the local upscale hotels for the same price (albeit minus the kitchen and laundry facilities). We've had excellent experiences with most of our rentals and always thought that the price we paid was more than fair for what was delivered. Unfortunately this unit was disappointing in that respect.
Owner response:Hi Erin, Thanks for your candid review of your recent stay at my Coronado Apartments. I was surprised to see several negative comments, as I have received dozens of top notch reviews over the years. These reviews can be read on my Homeaway and VRBO listings. . The building is older, and I have owned it over 30 years. The apartment was remodeled with a completely new kitchen including new appliances and granite counter tops in the past 4 years. At that time the bathroom was completely redone with new bathtub, vanity, toilet and new tiles throughout. At the location near the beach, the air is very moist, and to counter this condition I have placed a dehumidifier in each apartment for use by guests as needed. The 4 heaters in a 700 square foot apartment have always been adequate, and there are extra blankets when required. It would be possible to stay in a local hotel at my price point. However, my apartments offer a full living room/dining area, full kitchen, two bedrooms, and a washer/ dryer! Quite a bit more than a hotel room! If the bedding does not match the photos on my site, it is because we rotate all bedding for each guests’ stay. My site does not indicate that personal items such as a hairdryer and ironing board are present. In conclusion, my staff and I will strive to improve the quality of our lodging so that our guests will enjoy their stay here on the coastside to the maximum. Travel safely, Ralph Ely, Owner, (650) 773-2456

This was the perfect place to stay this summer. We wanted a place for a week close to the ocean and near San Francisco. This was perfect for our needs. The apartment was affordable, clean and with all the amenities. We were close enough to San Francisco to sightsee, but far enough away from the city to enjoy the beach. The beach across Highway 1 was nice, but crossing the highway can be challenging. (There is a light where you can cross without jaywalking, but I am afraid most of us were too anxious to get to the beach to walk all the way down to the light.) We had such a nice time visiting the area, so much to do. We would definitely stay here again

I stayed at this property for a a full week and felt that it was an excellent choice. It was clean, comfortable and just a short stroll to the beach. We ate out a few nights, but appreciated being able to cook "in" after a couple of days of being tourists in San Francisco! There area multitude of local restaurants and many of them on right on the Ocean with spectacular views. I would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants to have a quiet, easy going stay! It really is a quick drive to San Francisco and to the airport! Martha

We stayed in Apt. 1 during the last week in October, 2010. We needed to be near Half Moon Bay and have room enough for 3 adults and a 5 year old child. This place was perfecet! The two bedrooms had ample sized beds that really fit our needs and every thing was clean and very comfortable. We were in walking distance to the beach and the harbor where great resturants and bars were available for every thing from lite lunch, to evening dining and even eventful night life! It close enough to the beach to enjoy daily strolls in the sand and close enough to San Francisco to where a 20 minute, and VERY senic drive on HWY 1, took us eventually into the city. The place looked just like the photos in the web site, it was very well equiped ( even had a cork screw, coffee, coffee filters, and laundry detergent) and had cable and internet available for free. All the appliances were new, and the furniture in great condition. Beautiful kitchen to meet every need! My only complaint was the out door patio area......it is a shared space within the 5 apartments,,,but it's great if you like meeting new people. Super fun and very satisfied! Quiet, peacefull, and beautiful!

After a hard time at language school we really could relax in this beautiful area from Half Moon Bay. I never expected this kind of nature so near by to S.F, with very good restaurants and a nice village-center with a lot of possibilities for shopping. And the apartment supported this feeling of wellbeing. It was comfortable with everything we need, clean and well-maintained, and to sit outsite of the entrance-door in the afternoon-sun. The photos above give you a real impression of the appearance and atmosphere. It was not far from the beach and a nice restaurant (Sam's) with good seafood, which we really enjoyed. We rent bikes and had a wonderful time along the ocean on the milelong pathway. The owner is very nice and helpfull with support. We will recommend it to friends and family and I hope some day we have time to come back.

It's not deluxe, which I'm grateful for, but it's completely comfortable. Just enough room, a useful kitchen, an amazing cleaning staff. Not much view, but that's a block away. Run by a distinctly nice guy, a rare quality in my experience of landlords. Recommended to all but the entitled, who'll "need" a hot tub and morning massage with room service.
