The perfect out-of-the-way spot for mixed skiing families! Avoid the noisy and crowded ski towns for peace and tranquility! 90 minutes to several ski hills. Bring your skis, camera, your canvas and your fishing pole and take a short walk down to the water. The Casita del Lago is a Modern Adobe Style( Modern Adobe is featured on HGTV's Home Giveaway for 2010) Vacation Home that is like no other in design and amenities. Imported granite countertops, custom handmade Spanish Pueblo arched doors, imported Mexican furniture, resort quality bedding and linens, authentic southwest lit nichos, handmade Kiva Lighting sconces, plastered interior walls, radiant floor heat, top rated appliances, indigenous rock woodburning fireplace, and 4 furnished outdoor living spaces!! The east and west portales are attached with heated floors and one-of-a-kind views. The southern portal (porch) just off the kitchen offers warm, sunlit days in even the coolest high desert New Mexico temps. And the hot tub will be an experience unique to each guest!

Casita del Lago (Little House on the Lake) is a secluded lakefront vacation home with lakefront access sitting on a river embankment right where the Chama River meets the 12 mile long Lake Abiquiu. This stunning thick-walled adobe style casita sits on 23 acres of natural surroundings and is crafted to true New Mexican style. It is well positioned on a gradually sloping hillside for privacy and it's close proximity to the sky blue water and 250 million year old layered Red Rock cliffs provide for spectacular one-of-a-kind views and pictures---right from your home.

Although you can stay inside the 1158 sq. ft. glass walled paradise and never plug-in any entertainment device, this deluxe casita is designed to include them. A large LCD HD TV is positioned above the wood burning rock fireplace and speakers for MP3 and Ipod players are included. If you want to move your entertainment outdoors to the heated floor portales where there are as many outdoor living spaces as indoor living spaces, then hook up to the fastest wireless internet in the area or position yourself to watch the flatscreen TV, or do what I do, take an afternoon siesta.

The 6 person hot tub is nestled among huge rock boulders just off the western portal and it reserves it own spectacular views for itself, especially at night when the billions and billions of stars come out. For the more adventuresome, a short hike to the "Stonehenge firepit" at sunset for a spectacular outdoor viewing and nighttime fire atop the arroyo is a perfect setting for your favorite ghost story--or fairy tale story for the little ones.

Extra care was taken to craft your casita to be more than sleeping quarters with a kitchen.
It is a work of art in itself, erected without one tree being uprooted. And while the window space was maximized--Casita del Lago remains very energy efficient and green. Often, indigenous materials were utilized by local craftsmen. For you who have not visited New Mexico before, you will immediately notice the absence of noise, air, and light pollutants. We absolutely love it here and we hope you will, too. You can check in with us for more information about the area and its rich history.

For those of you familiar with the area, Casita del Lago is spectacularly unique. The drive down towards the water with the incredible Sedona-like views is worth the trip in itself! This is the area's most private and secluded resort setting; you will be amazed at the views that surround you and you will want to wake up early just to witness the break of dawn. Then settle in for an afternoon siesta on one of the outdoor daybeds; or curl up to a book; go down to the water; start a gourmet meal; sightsee (if you must); horseback ride; photograph; hike the arroyos on your property; draw, paint, write, dream, and much, much, more.

Deluxe Modern Adobe Lakefront Casita W/ Lake Access & Hot Tub

Year Purchased: 2009

Why the Owner Chose Abiquiu

Quite simply, this place found us and the timing could not have been better. There are only four Lakefront parcels in the area, and only one remains available for sale (and that is the property we own adjacent to Casita del Lago.) When you visit here, and you view many of the scapes Georgia O'Keeffe painted in their original context, you will understand why she could never leave.

The Unique Benefits at this House

It is a house and property like no other, and it is the only Lakefront vacation rental with lake access to Lake Abiquiu. Casita del Lago is built in traditional adobe style with 14" thick walls stucco'd and plastered. The New Mexican charm is enhanced by the fully arched architectural doorways and the pair of built in lighted nichos opposite the woodburning fireplace. But it incorporates todays most modern conveniences. It is very private but also very conspicuous to boaters as it sits high on the hill overlooking the river. You can be as private as you would like to be, because you have 23 acres to roam. Bring your camera to photograph the vistas, relax in the two outdoor daybeds, take in the stars at the incredibly luxurious hot tub, light a fire indoors, or on the western portale, or venture out to the western outdoor pit. Sit in the Eastern gardens (Beginning spring 2010) and admire the sunrise, or heat up the Eastern Portale and enjoy it from the bench. Walk down to the water for solitude or to drop a line in. Or just curl up on the 5' circular oversised chaise on the south portal and warm up to the afternoon sun. And thats just a few of the daily options you have at Casita del Lago.

Owner's Map of Abiquiu

We balance raising our family with our careers as we travel around the country for business and pleasure. We are pretty much regular folk who fell in love with Abiquiu and wanted to create something very special. We love it here as do our 3 teenage kids pictured here over Christmas 2009, riding horses on the property with Hollywood stuntman Fred. Our goal is to spend as much time here as time allows. We hope that will be your goal also. We never run out of things to do or not do.

The views are stunning and the descriptions of the location very accurate. The Casita has more amenities than it even mentions and is very warm comfortable and clean. The owner provided information and guidance to make the stay complete. The gourmet kitchen provides everything one needs to cook a fabulous meal. The only problem we had was getting up the drive on the ice in our vehicle which was not 4 wheel drive. We were warned but also had assistance very soon. This is definitely a return destination as there is so much to see and experience in the area. One does not even have to leave the Casita as it is an artists' dream come true.

Sunrise!

Guest: CD (-)
Date of Stay: 11/25/11 Review Submitted: 01/07/12

Sunrise – I watch it at home, rising over the mountains, onto the lake. I can’t get over the sunrise here – the changing colors of the landscape are beautiful and amazing. Our first trip to New Mexico, so this, Casita del Lago, was a perfect location for viewing the hills, rocks, colors, and N.M. beauty. We had a fun, relaxing, adventurous week at the Casita del Lago with our very dear friends. We covered lots of territory and sites, ate fantastic lunches and brunch out; cooked dinners in (glad for the Weber BBQ). Enjoyed the hot tub, too! And the NM sky at night is fantastic. Casita del Lago is most comfortable. We enjoyed our stay. Thanksgving dinner at Abiquiu Inn was yummy!

Views are breath taking and we loved it all!

What a lovely casita! The views are breath taking and we loved it all. Made day trips to Santa Fe, Chama and two drives to Los Alamos. Taos was charming also. The days flew by and wish we had more time here. Fished below the Abiquiu dam, a trout dinner fit for a king! We wish we could pack it all up and take it home ?

A gift

Guest: Carol R (-)
Date of Stay: 10/08/11 Review Submitted: 01/07/12

Our first morning here we were gifted with the most spectacular sunrise Ive ever seen. It was as if the sun was on fire. Previously, we had lounged on the couch under blankets watching the smoke from the chimera swirl and the shadows move across the mesas across the lake. I have always loved New Mexico but have only spent time in Santa Fe and Taos. This was something else, a vision and solitude, of ancient vistas unchanged. The Casita was perfect with its amenitites and the views supreme.

What is a week at the Casita del Lago?!

Guest: Joanne M – Tisdale, Saskatchewan, Canada (-)
Date of Stay: 09/25/11 Review Submitted: 01/07/12

Dear Carol and Tom, What’s a week at Casita del Lago? One may ask of those who have been and we’d try to describe this spectacular spot with word pictures yet unseen: It’s a starry night in the hot tub early morning’s magnificent view, brandy old fashions, lots of good wine, a tour of O”Keeffe’s Abiquiu. It’s the joy of inhaling this landscape, While trying to absorb all of this peace. It’s a wildly adventurous roadway And Don’s driving expertise. It’s a week we will always remember, Scenes we will never forget. Good friends, good food, much laughter, Would we love to come back? You Bet! Thank you so much!

Your house is awesome!! We had the best, most relaxing time ever! I so needed the peace and serenity I felt while there! Thanks for sharing your house! We left some painting folding stools, chairs and tables for others to use. My friend and I had such a grand time, we hope to be able to come back sometime next year. Thanks again!

Excellent Trip

Guest: Andrew C (-)
Date of Stay: 11/25/11 Review Submitted: 01/07/12

Our trip was excellent and went smooth as silk. Everyone in our party enjoyed the stay and the casita, even though most days we were out from sun up to sun down. Thanks again for making such a nice place available to us. PS: my brother is a contractor and he was very impressed with the workmanship and construction of the home!
