Beautiful new vacation home in a natural playground setting in West Virginia, Canaan Valley - stylish design, open and sunny interior, secluded wooded location. Ideal for 2-3 families or groups of 10-12 who like outdoor adventures such as x-country skiing, downhill skiing, hiking, biking, rafting, hunting, golfing and listening to music in nearby Davis and Thomas.
Access to Canaan Valley wonders: The house is located close to many of the beautiful outdoor features of Canaan Valley. You can hike, bike or cross-country ski out the door and a quick 200 feet trail to access miles of trails in the 919,000 acre Monongahela National Forest. TIMBERLINE and CANAAN VALLEY ski hills are just about 4 miles down the road. WHITEGRASS CROSS COUNTRY SKI CENTER and cafe is also just about 5 miles down the road. You can also drive 3 miles into DAVIS for restaurants and shops, and then another 2 miles to BLACKWATER FALLS STATE PARK. You can hike / bike/ ski from the house all the way to either Blackwater Falls State Park or Canaan Valley State Park Resort on wonderful trails through Monongahela and the State Parks.
The house was designed to make you feel that you are in the middle of the woods – with large windows offering wonderful views. The house design also makes it easy to get out into the woods, via the large front entry hall with large closets and custom-made bench. Also – the heated attached garage makes winter coming/going easier!
Secluded: Ilam House is located on a very private wooded 2-acre lot, at the end of a quiet cul de sac. The house is set in a medium-aged forest of birch, spruce, beech, maple and rhododendrons – with thick ferns underfoot in the summer. The house is also easy to reach – only about 500 yards off of Highway 32, just 3 miles from Davis, WV.
Stylish: The house is a contemporary design with European touches. Interior features an open floor plan, bright maple flooring, nine foot ceilings, lots of windows to bring in morning and afternoon sun, and stylish new furniture and decorations throughout. A Chef’s kitchen features a large island, two ovens, two sinks, soapstone countertops, cherry cabinets and stainless steel appliances. The house was completed in December 2007 and is *sparkling” new!
Comfortable: The first floor living area is open and luxurious, with leather sofas and upholstered chairs clustered around a fireplace. A circular wooden dining table and comfortable oak chairs make for a very friendly atmosphere and warm conversation. The first floor also features a large walk-out deck with hot tub. A separate play room has a large flat screen TV, ping pong table, and giant “FooF” beanbag chairs.
Spacious lodging: The second floor has are four bedrooms – two master suites with private baths, and two others with bunk beds (1 full + 1 twin), and shared bath + tub. All bedrooms feature bright maple floors and a mix of new and vintage furnishings.

- Ski-In: Can cross-country ski to/from the house to into the Monongahela National Forest - and miles of (ungroomed) trails. Minutes by car from groomed XC trails at Whitegrass XC Ski Center, Blackwater Falls State Park, and Canaan Valley State Park. Minutes by car from downhill skiing at Timberline and Canaan Valley.

- Wheelchair Accessible (may have limitations): Ilam House can be convenient for wheelchair use- with some exceptions. The house is about a 2-step rise off the driveway (no ramp)> Once in the house, the first floor is all at a consistent level, including one full bath, and the Ping-Pong room with pull-out sleeper sofa.
- Kid Friendly: Our kids have hours of fun playing Ping Pong! Around the house there are small trails on the 2 acre lot - and minutes away and other trails into the beautiful National Forest. A night-time campfire in the fire-ring with s'mores is a big favorite!

We're a family of outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy Canaan Valley 4 seasons of the year - XC and down hill skiing in winter, spring hiking, summer backpacking and mountain biking and fly fishing and blue berry picking, and fall hiking.
Why the Owner Chose Canaan Valley
Chris and Eugenie started coming to Canaan Valley around 1996 for the cross country skiing. We then started enjoying the area in other season - hiking, camping, mountain biking and rafting. We built our dream vacation house, "Ilam House" in 2008 - in a wonderful location adjacent to the Monongahela National Forest and only a few miles from the heart of Canaan Valley (Timberline, White Grass XC Skiing, Canaan Valley State Park), Davis and Blackwater Falls State Park. We now enjoy visiting Ilam House with our three kids and other friends - for outdoor adventures, good food, hot tubbing, and ping-pong tournaments! We hope you enjoy Ilam House as well!
