Location: Valle Crucis, Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina, USA (10 Minutes from Boone, NC, Two Hours from Charlotte Airport)

Accommodations:  House, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 3-6)

Immerse yourself in the historic beauty of one of the most stunningly romantic areas of Western North Carolina in this well-appointed, one-of-a-kind home with all the amenities. This newer, mountain-style home is nestled in the lush valley of Valle Crucis, an historic rural farming community laced with gurgling streams and foliage found only in this part of the ancient Blue Ridge Mountains.

This remarkable home is great for entertaining whether in the vaulted great room, grilling on the large back deck surrounded by pine, fern and rhododendron, or sitting on the front porch swing taking in the same incredible view enjoyed by the settlers who founded this valley centuries ago.

Sweet Fern Hollow is just 10 minutes from upscale restaurants, shopping and entertainment in Boone. And more restaurants and shopping of all types can be found a short drive to nearby Banner Elk, and Blowing Rock.

It is also less than a mile from local restaurants, parks, horseback riding trails, hiking and biking trails and such historic landmarks as the Mast General Store. Just across the street is the Watauga River, touted as one of the best fly-fishing streams in the South.

The experience begins as one crosses the low-bridge over the Watauga River. From the car, one may peer over the edge to see trout waiting to be caught (and hopefully released). This bridge is a favorite put-in for anglers, and for folks out tubing, canoeing, and wading as well.

Upon arrival, take the time to savor the sweet view from the front deck, entirely entwined with wisteria creating a sense of real privacy. Note the porch swing is under the covered section of the deck to enjoy a soft mountain shower, or terrific thunderstorm, should one arise.

Sweet Fern Hollow exudes aesthetics and tranquility. When one enters the home, there is an overwhelming feeling of enchantment with mountain charm in each and every accessory. The great room with its hardwood floors, soaring cathedral ceiling, wood-burning stone fireplace, and tasteful décor, all make for a wonderful welcome, and gives one a sense of well-being, knowing this will be the perfect vacation.

Peaceful and quiet, the master suite features a king bed and opens onto the back deck where one may wake to see deer feeding in the hollow, or gaze through the windows overlooking the front deck with its magnificent view making this one of the best places to awaken in the High Country.

And during the winter months ... Three ski resorts are within a 20 to 30 min. drive. Cross country skiing is another choice if conditions are right, and snow tubing is an option for the non-skier at some nearby ski resorts. And at the end of your snow-filled day, come "home" to a relaxing fire.

Sweet Fern Hollow is situated on two, wooded acres and has everything wanted in a vacation home: a great view, privacy, convenient and exclusive location, exceptional décor, tranquility and ambience. A vacation home you will return to again and again.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2008

The Brennan Family lives in San Francisco, CA full-time but spends every spare moment at Sweet Fern Hollow. My husband is a contractor/developer and I am an interior designer. We have a two-year-old daughter. We love and enjoy our vacation home so much we felt we should share it. Each time we are about to leave Sweet Fern Hollow, we wish it were out permanent residence and we wouldn't have to leave. You will feel the same.

Why the Owner Chose Valle Crucis

I grew up in the area and went to nearby Appalachian State University. When my husband asked, "If you could own a home anywhere in the world, where would it be." I immediately answered, "Valle Crucis, NC." He said, "You don't want to sleep on that, or anything?" To which I replied, "There is no need." Less than a year later we bought Sweet Fern Hollow.

The Unique Benefits of this House

Nearby Historic Mast Store is a "must see." Access to the river, just across the street. Privacy. Tranquility Yet only 10 minutes from anything one needs.
