Map & Owner's Profile

Why the Owner Chose San Antonio
This big, old house has fascinated me for a long time. Although we purchased it several years ago, we didn't get around to renovating it until this summer (2009). It's been a labor of love, replacing old wood floors, installing a new central air/heat system, adding a new room, etc., but now it's not just a big, old house anymore. ... It's Southern Comfort at its best!
The Unique Benefits at this House
As a young woman, I couldn't wait to escape the small West Texas town I grew up in (Stamford), but as I've aged, I find myself longing for that small-town feel again. At the same time, I've grown accustomed to having options in dining, shopping, entertainment and a slew of services that make life enjoyable. All of these things can be found within minutes of our sleepy vacation property in San Antonio.
Owner's Map of San Antonio
I was once retired and now I'm not! After publishing a magazine for deaf and hard-of-hearing people for 20 years, I somehow stumbled across a special little area of San Antonio and purchased property there. Thus my entry into vacation rentals was sealed. Although I am not yet living in San Antonio, I will be as soon as I can escape the Corpus Christi area -- and our restaurants, Blackbeard's!

Stayed here Friday-Monday on our Spring Break trip to Texas and was VERY pleased...4 adults 2 children.....upon our arrival the wifi-cable wasnt working and immediately after calling Leslie someone (her daughter I think) showed up and stayed over 2 hours of her Friday night getting the service working..THANK U !!.....house is in a quieter older neighborhood but nice...Very convenient to Interstate system...shopping, sight seeing...wouldnt hesitate to stay again. I had read an earlier negative comment about "couldn't park SUV in carport, too small" .... I parked my diesel Chevy Club Cab 2500 HD 4x4 truck in it without a problem.

We attended our son's graduation ceremony at Lackland AFB on July 9th, 2010 and stayed a full week. The location and distance from all the sites was perfect for us. We all had a wonderful stay, the home was BEAUTIFUL, clean, very comfortable. Leslie the manager was just an angel very accomidating and made sure we had everything we needed. The housekeepers were very nice and checked in every once in awhile to make sure we had everything we needed. It was a home away from home. Overall experience was a high 10.

Yes. It's not a McMansion.

Unfortunately, the Spring Breakers from Wichita, Ks, came during a period when Time Warner was experiencing some difficulties with our WI-FI. Complicating this, the owner was out of town and the booking agent was having a baby. ... Truly a perfect storm of miscommunications. Regarding the proximity to the RiverWalk and Downtown, we clearly state in our description that we are situated 10 minutes from these destinations. All appliances in the house are new, except the stove/oven. All beds and bedding, 4 TVs and CD player are new. The house is quite spacious and the "den" is, indeed, a coverted garage, with central air & heat, a separate wall a/c and a ceiling fan. We certainly apologize that our Wi-Fi wasn't working properly. This has been corrected.

Not being familiar with SA, the listing of "downtown" "River" sounded just right. But the location is 10 mins from downtown in a neighborhood the real estate TV shows would call "emerging" or "transitional". There is no way you could sleep 10 people with any level of comfort. The amenities are overstated (we spent the entire stay struggling with wifi -- which was an important feature when selecting this home; applicances are aging, much deferred maintenance). The owners/agents were nice enough, just not able to assist/lacked knowledge & proximity to the house. Linens were clean, towels abundant and fluffy. Newer full size refrigerator was a high point. The "den" is a converted garage with no additional insulation... fine for watching TV, but not for sleeping. Carport too small for our SUV. We were disappointed with our first HomeAway experience, to say the least.

We stayed at Southern Comfort during our son's graduation from Air Force Basic Training. The location is close to downtown, Lackland AFB and all local attractions. Even thought the home is in an older neighborhood you cant beat the room. We had several family members in and out of the house and never felt crowded. The location is easy to find and close to all interstates for travel to any area of San Antonio. Also, if you forget anything there is a newer shopping center about 2 miles from the house.
