Our house is great for families with children or several couples travelling together. We also like dogs so feel free to bring your own well-behaved family pet.

We have owned our lovely French home for 6 years and use it as much as is possible so it contains many personal touches. It has been comfortably renovated, but remains very French, and has a wonderful old world charm.

Situated on the Rue de l’Eglise in the very heart of the charming Breton village of Bazouges La Perouse which was recently awarded the title of "Petite Cité de Caractere" and is also considered a ‘Village des Artistes’ with numerous galleries to visit as well as 5 different bars and restaurants all within easy walking distance of the house. In the village there is also a bank, post office, small supermarket, bakery and a butcher shop and there is a small farmers market every Thursday morning. Best of all for visitors is the local Boulangerie which is just a 2 minute stroll every morning to go and get your pain au chocolate or croissant, perhaps stopping off at one of the cafe's on the way back home for a quick coffee.. Bliss!

The property itself is a large town house/cottage. The ground floor is a big and social open plan which incorporates a fully fitted kitchen with all modern conveniences, a huge rustic dining table to seat up to 12 easily, a WC, and a comfortable sitting area with TV (British Cable TV channels), DVD, VHS, cd player etc, as well as a selection of games, films, books and music to suit most tastes. We don’t strip the place when we leave as it is our home away from home and are confident and happy that our visitors will treat it in the same way.

On the 2nd floor there are three large double bedrooms and a family bathroom(tub, toilet and sink). The top floor is a huge room/loft/family room with more beds if you need them as well as a pool table, dart board, table football etc. Outside there are two sun-decks so as to take advantage of the sun in the morning as well as the afternoon, and a nice and private back garden with lawn for the children. A solid built barbecue and plenty of tables and chairs make outdoors entertaining a pleasure.

The surrounding area around Bazouges has much to offer the visitor. A short drive away is the beautiful, historic yet cosmopolitan university city of Rennes, (try the Saturday fresh produce market at Place de les Lices – an amazing French experience); the walled coastal town of St. Malo with its hundreds of tiny streets lined with top fashion shops and restaurants and street entertainers in the summer; the working abbey of Mont-St-Michel built at the end of a tiny causeway in the Atlantic ocean which is France’s most visited landmark after the Eiffel Tower; the seaside towns of Le Vivier-sur-Mer (producer of much of France’s mussels for consumption) and Cancale, the renowned oyster producing town whose sea-front is lined with high quality restaurants to sit in for hours and sample the finest and freshest sea food in the country. There are also many many beautiful, unspoiled sandy beaches to spend the day.

Bazouges La Perouse is also just on the edge of the Brittany/Normandy border, making a trip to the D-Day landing beaches of Omaha, Gold and Juno easy to do and impossible to miss, or forget. There is also the port town of Dinan; the countless beaches of the Brittany and Normandy coast; Combourg; the forest of Villecartier with its aerial rope course for very brave adults and children from 6 years old, and other places too numerous to mention - but lots of information is available in the house for visitors and at the Office of Tourism which is just a couple of blocks away...

I can’t say enough about the beauties of this area, and our lovely French village. I know you'll have the best holiday here!

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2002

Rick & Nikki, two grown up boys, one small boy, three dogs, one live in mother-in-law, chaotic life, well-lived!

Why the Owner Chose Mont-St-Michel

We live in the Channel Islands, just off the coast of France, and so Brittany is an ideal location for us, and we simply fell in love with the village of Bazouges La Perouse. When you see it you'll see why.

The Unique Benefits of this House

There is plenty to do and see, as listed above, places to visit, towns to shop in, restaurants to eat in. It is central to so much, but equally great just to stay put.

A really lovely stay

Guest: pamom (Huntingdon, PA/United States)
Date of Stay: 05/21/11 Review Submitted: 09/14/11

Our family (four adults, two kids under 12) stayed for a week in May. The place is really comfortable and lovely, and Bazouges is a charming little town with a good bakery and a grocery store. We appreciated the ability to have a quiet evening after a long day's car touring. My parents, in their early 70s, had no problem with the steps, though those who are concerned with accessibility should know the stairway is pretty steep to the second floor. If you choose to visit Brittany and this property, you'll love it! but please be sure to have a very good road map or GPS, because the signage in the area can be confusing and Rennes is particularly difficult.

Lives up to promises -- and more!

I just spent a week here with 3 adult family members. The house is large enough that we could have easily had 2 more adults with us, plus children. It's obvious that the house is a family home, which enhances the feeling that you actually live in Bazouges la Perousse. The town is lovely, and made a perfect starting point for day trips to Normandy, Rennes, Mainz, and Mt. Saint Michel. We had a couple of dinners at a restaurant in the town (excellent) and made a daily early morning stop in town for coffee and croissants. I can't say enough about the house itself...the patio was perfect for dinners at home (the farmers market on Thursday provided great vegetables and fruits), the massive dining room table waa great for reviewing the treasures of the day as well as playing games, and the kitchen was well-stocked with all of the utensils and serving dishes one could need. Thanks for contributing to one of the best vacations ever. .

Owner response:Thank you so much for your review - I am so so pleased that you all had such a great holiday and that your stay in Bazouges La P. added to it. We love it and although it's not smart in any way, shape or form, it is a perfect house to relax and chill out in. Especially for large numbers as it is big enough and seems to want to house big sociable groups. Thanks again. Nikki

A wondeful family home

Guest: Cook Family1 (Boone, NC USA)
Date of Stay: 07/08/11 Review Submitted: 07/31/11

My extended family of 6 adults and 5 children (ages 7 and under) spent a week at Nikki"s home this summer. The house accommodated us very well and had every convenience we needed. The bedroom with all the toys was a hit with the kids and parents, especially on a rainy day!. We walked a few blocks for fresh bread and pastries every morning and cooked in the outdoor fireplace most evenings. The home was within an easy drive of all the sights in Normandy. Bazouges is a quiet town that was fun to explore. There was a wonderful market on Thursday and the tourist office was very helpful. If you have children the Foret de Villecartier is practically next door - there are zip line courses for kids and adults, minature boats, pony rides, hiking, etc.: a nice break from a days of sightseeing. Thanks Nikki for sharing your lovely home.

Owner response:You are very welcome - we are just delighted that you had a good stay and that our house made you feel comfortable and able to relax. And Bazouges is such a sweet town that we want others to find it and appreciate it too. Best regards. Nikki

Feels Like Home

Guest: Rae-Marie (Kauai, Hawaii, USA)
Date of Stay: 05/25/10 Review Submitted: 06/09/10

I just returned from staying at this home in a wonderful, small, but charming village in Brittany. The house is a second home for the owners so there are many personal items, including a room full of toys. My husband and I enjoyed the downstairs with its large kitchen, long dining table, and living room complete with a fireplace. We used one of the bedrooms to sleep and the other to pile our luggage and clothes. Two couples could easily stay, although they would have to share the bathroom next to the bedrooms. It would be perfect for a family. The church bells ring from 7:00 in the morning until 10:00 at night, but that didn't bother us. There is no computer access or wifi, but a computer center just down the street was open a few hours a week and I was able to use their computers for free. Sandy, the manager, was fun to get to know and very helpful with questions. The surrounding area is beautiful and Le Mont St. Michel is 20 minutes away. I would definitely recommend the house to friends and relatives.

Owner response:So pleased you enjoyed your stay - and sorry about the church bells - but amazing how quickly you don't notice them after the first couple of mornings!
