Location: Mont-St-Michel, Lower-Normandy, France, Europe (Rennes - 35 Minutes; St Malo - 35 Minutes;)
Accommodations: House, 4 Bedrooms + Loft, 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 10-12)
We have owned our lovely French home for 6 years now. It is situated on the Rue de l’Eglise in the very heart of the charming Breton village of Bazouges La Perouse. Designated a ‘Village des Artistes’ and a Petite Cité de Caractere, Bazouges is very friendly and quaint and charming with galleries, craft shops and exhibitions to visit, as well as 5 different bars and restaurants all within easy walking distance of the house. There is also a delicious boulangerie just at the end of the street - a 2 minute stroll every morning to go and get your pain au chocolate or croissant, perhaps stopping off at one of the cafe's on the way back home for a quick coffee.. Bliss! See the dedicated website on the village for further information.
The property itself is a large town house just three doors away from the Church - you might notice the church bells in the morning (don't worry - they stop through the night)! It has a huge and social open plan space on the ground floor which incorporates a fully fitted kitchen with all mod.cons, a huge rustic dining table to seat 10-12 easily, a large comfortable sitting area with TV (with numerous free-to-view British TV channels), DVD, video, cd player etc, as well as a huge selection of games, films, books and music to suit most tastes. There is also a separate downstairs wc. On the middle floor there are three large double bedrooms and a family bathroom, and on the top floor is a huge room which includes a double bed and two singles, a pool table, table-football game, and dartboard.
If you fancy a day at home there is plenty to entertain you either inside if the weather is not great, or outside if it is fine. There are two sun-decks so as to take advantage of the sun in the morning as well as the afternoon, and a nice and private back garden with lawn for the children. A solid built barbecue and plenty of tables and chairs make outdoors entertaining a pleasure.
The house has been fully renovated, but remains very French, comfortable and rustic. We use it as much as is possible and so it contains many personal touches, along with full bookshelves, games cupboards and selection of DVDs. Kitchen cupboards always contain the basics, with supplies of tea-bags, sugar, salt and pepper, spices and other items that are ‘always handy to have in’. We don’t strip the place when we leave as it is our home away from home and are confident and happy that our visitors will treat it in the same way.
The surrounding area around Bazouges has much to offer the visitor, being only a short drive away from the beautiful, historic yet cosmopolitan university city of Rennes, (try the Saturday fresh produce market at Place de les Lices – an amazing French experience); the walled coastal town of St. Malo with its hundreds of tiny streets lined with top fashion shops and restaurants and street entertainers in the summer; the working abbey of Mont-St-Michel built at the end of a tiny causeway in the Atlantic ocean which is French’s most visited landmark after the Eiffel Tower; the seaside towns of Le Vivier-sur-Mer (producer of much of France’s mussels for consumption) and Cancale, the renowned oyster producing town whose sea-front is lined with high quality restaurants to sit in for hours and sample the finest and freshest sea food in the country.
Bazouges La Perouse is also just on the edge of the Brittany/Normandy border, making a trip to the D-Day landing beaches of Omaha, Gold and Juno easy to do and impossible to miss, or forget. There is also the port town of Dinan; the many beaches of the Brittany and Normandy coast; Combourg (where the writer Chateaubriand was raised); the forest of Villecartier with its aerial rope course for 4-11 year olds or a high-rise version for very brave adults, and other places too numerous to mention - but lots of information is available in the house for visitors.
I can’t say enough about the beauties of this area, and our lovely French village. Our house is great for a large family or two smaller families, and I know you'll have the best holiday here!

Rick & Nikki, two grown up boys, one small boy, three dogs, one live in mother-in-law, chaotic life, well-lived!
Why the Owner Chose Mont-St-Michel
We live in Guernsey, in the Channel Islands, just off the coast of France, and so Brittany is an ideal location for us, and we simply fell in love with the village of Bazouges La Perouse. When you see it you'll see why.
The Unique Benefits of this House
There is plenty to do and see, as listed above, places to visit, towns to shop in, restaurants to eat in. It is central to so much, but equally great just to stay put.
