The Orcas Island "Killebrew Cabin" is a cute little one bedroom cabin located in the heart of Orcas Village at the ferry landing. Its decorated in comfortable island style with lots of blues and greens.
Sit on the deck and enjoy watching the people of the village pass by on adjacent Killebrew Lake Road and enjoy breathtaking views of the water including the coming and going of sailboats, yachts and ferries. There's not much more romantic than sitting out on the deck at night and watching the ferries float across the surface of the water all lit up like Christmas floats.
Beyond the water, just 1000 feet or so from the cabin are many other amazing amenities. First is the Orcas Village Store which is arguably one of the finest gourmet markets in the islands. They make great coffee drinks and stock an excellent wine selection and variety of organic meats, cheeses, produce etc.. The convenience of the market close by allows for a stress free visit ... just bag the planning and wander to the store when you get the urge. (Across the street is a little liquor store)
Another great amenity is the cabin's proximity to the ferry landing ... again just about 1000 feet away! This gives you the option to save money and walk on the ferry if you choose. (There's a place to rent a car or moped just a two minute walk from the cabin if you end up deciding you need wheels). This ideal location keeps you from sitting all day in the ferry lines which is certainly the downside of island travel as ferries do fill-up and people often end up waiting many hours to catch an outgoing ferry. Due to the cabin's location one can place their car in line in the morning and go back to the cabin to enjoy your time until your ferry arrives.
For drinks and dining, you'll enjoy a stroll to the Orcas Hotel which is a historic and highly celebrated island fixture. Octavia's lounge serves up great drinks and the restaurant there is really quite nice ... I suggest their clam chowder!
Finally, there's a public dock right at the landing. Access to the water is somewhat limited on Orcas so its great to be able to launch kayaks or catch crabs right there off the dock. If you want to kayak there are rentals right within walking distance, as is access to whale watching tours.
Disclosures: PLEASE READ! This is a great little place but I want to make sure I'm totally honest so you know what you're getting. I've done a few things to the place but basically bought it as is and there are some quirks (some I can fix, some I can't). There are no closets, but there are hangers on most doors. The shower is fairly small ... not freaky small, but fairly small - so if you're a large person this might not be your cup of tea. This is not a place to go if you want total privacy. The cabin sits right on the road as you can see and people are always walking by. I love this about the place - but want you to know. In the morning you'll hear the hustle and bustle of the village waking and the ferry coming and going ... again, this is an aspect I love about the place. The view I show in the pictures is the "optimum view", you'll always have darn good views of the water and ferry but people do park along Killebrew Lake Road which separates the house from the water and your view will be affected to various levels throughout the day. Its not perfect but I love it and hope you will too!

I live in Oregon and first visited the islands in 2001. From the second I set foot on the islands I knew I'd found home. My lifestyle doesn't allow me to live in Orcas full-time yet, but there will be a day. Buying this little cabin for me was a dream come true and I'm happy to share it.
