Colibri Beach House is located in a small group of island style homes nestled on Calabash Beach on the southern coast of Roatan, one mile east of the little town of Oak Ridge. (Oak Ridge itself is an English-speaking shrimping and fishing village with quaint houses built around a large harbour and on several keys.)
The house is one hour from the airport by road (4x4 a must!), or you can leave your 4x2 rental vehicle in Oak Ridge and take a water taxi to the house. This cuts the journey time by road to approximately 40 minutes.
If you crave the sound of the waves and total peace and tranquility, then you’ve found it here. Colibri Beach House is situated about 30 feet from the ocean and faces into a gentle trade wind.
The home, featuring Spanish tile floors throughout and with airy, cathedral ceilings is primarily furnished in wicker. It sleeps up to 6, and consists of a large living, dining and kitchen area, one bathroom and two air-conditioned bedrooms (one with a queen bed and the other with two double beds).
The house has a forty-foot porch along the front of the house facing the ocean with a patio table and chairs for outside dining. The sun deck plus dock provide a view of the rugged mountains of mainland Honduras in the distance, and colorful sunsets to the west. The dock is about 50 feet long and you can jump right off from it and snorkel to the reef (about one minute away).
