Highwoods Est. 2009:
Welcome to our home located at the Old Edwards Club in Highlands Cove. We have attempted to make our home as comfortable as possible with the best furnishings and finishes to make your rental stay in Highlands an exceptional experience. There is nothing like sitting on the screen porch and rocking in the cool breezes at 4000 feet elevation. Pour some wine and listen to the birds and the occasional tee shot from number 12. Our Chef's kitchen will inspire those who cook and be admired by those who prefer to eat out. Dining for 8 or more at our expandable table in the dining room or step outside and dine on our expandable teak set. Lower level bar has frig, ice maker and microwave with loads of additional glassware.

Comfort you can Feel:
Lounge back and relax because comfort in our home and bedrooms is our number one priority. That's why we are offering all Peacock Alley bedding and toweling to give you that 'hotel feel'. All Bedrooms have in suite baths and there are no adjoining walls in the bedrooms creating the utmost in privacy. Both the Upper Level and Lower level offer half baths so no guests have to enter a bedroom to use the bathroom. Bedding Coverlets and Duvets are all from Sferra, Peacock Alley, Williams Sonoma Home, Pottery Barn or Made to Measure. Curtains are from the Silk Trading Company except for the 13 foot Living Room Drapes which were custom made with Schumacher toile fabric.

Furnishings Old and New:
Furnishings are from many sources around Atlanta and purchased at auction from Selkirks in St Louis. You will find old and new alike placed to create a nice visual worn in feel. Large Couch dimensions were intentionally selected for lying down - you'll find two inside and our favorite on the upper level screen porch. At night click on the gas log fireplace, stretch out and take it all the fresh air.

NEW - Lower Level Sleeping/Napping and Reading Screened Porch. We were inspired from our childhoods when we slept on the "sleeping porch" on summer nights. So we added two hanging twin beds from the Chesapeake Collection at Pottery Barn for relaxing. Just hang out or make the beds with our full set of sheets, blankets and down comforters and sleep outdoors. These are standard twin size, with firm cushions, so comfortable. A dream come true.

Flat Panel TVs in Master, Living Room and Lower Level Family Room.
Surround Sound in the Family room with Blueray DVD, Regular DVD, CD, Dish 150 Package Satelite with lots of sports channels, IPOD docking stations, DCIM Card readers, and Game Box compatible connections.

Golf Details:
Old Edwards Club at Highlands Cove Membership Extension- Play the Newest Private Course in Highlands. An Application must be completed for $225 first month and $200 for each additional month. We transfer our membership to all renters in our home. You will place a credit card against all purchases and be issued temporary membership identification. Greens and Cart fees of $125 will still apply to Golf Play. Use of Swimming and Tennis no charge. Charge Privileges at the Clubhouse restaurant run by the Chef from Madison's Restaurant in Highlands.

Groceries and Markets:
Cashiers Ingles - the best one I have seen. Cashiers Farmers Market - Local Vegetables, Local Honey, Cakes, Seafood on the weekends, magnificent vegetables. Highlands Dusty's - it is all about the prime beef and frozen reheat biscuits. Mountain Fresh - new owners are making this the Dean and Deluca of Highlands. Bryson's - everyday value abounds. Dillard - Osage Farmers Market on the Right as you come up 441 from Atlanta. Find the Heirloom tomatoes in the back corner. Buy everything!

Highlands Restaurants:
Madison's in the Old Edwards Inn is just terrific - continental - excellent service. Paoletti's - the best Italian around - think fancy - oh mountain fancy. Wolfgang's -new wine assistant has made sampling wine as good as the food. New bar in front for less formal dining. Lakeside - a favorite for years - the owner/chef is kind of the Jonathan Waxman of Highlands. The Cabin - Steaks in a Joe Webb original cabin and mighty tasty. Ask for a seat in the main room. Wild Thyme -I used to call them and reserve a slice of coconut cake. Fressers - You got to love Debbie and those burgers. Sweet Treats - Don't underestimate the salads - kids can feed the trout in the stream and get ice cream - get your own ice cream too. On the Veranda - oh the wait...it hurts me too much. Mountain Fresh - There's a new kid in town for sandwiches and grilled items with a porch to sit and eat. Try It!

Cashiers Restaurants:
We are just discovering Cashiers Restaurants... But here is one great thing if you are a wine drinker. You have to bring your own because there are no liquor sales in Cashiers. So bring the best and don't pay the markup. The Orchard - make a reservation. Cornucopia - fantastic casual and fresh. Friends at the Old Edwards Club tell us to go to: , Boca and Osteria. Try Cafe Rel in Franklin found in the Hot Spot Gas Station - I am not kidding.

Why the Owner Chose Highlands

The temperature is always so nice - who knew you needed a sweater in the summer. Historic areas are just amazing like the High Hampton Inn - you have to see it - like a movie set. The Tailgate Market in Cashiers on Saturday Morning - fresh eggs - and blueberries.

The Unique Benefits at this House

We love rocking on the screen porch and drinking a glass of wine; enjoying the fresh air and long range views. Take it easy with a book or conversation with a friend on our two twin size hanging beds on the covered lower level screen porch. We have hiking right out the door or a short drive away. Gated Community and wonderful neighbors. Weekly renters now enjoy BVLGARI Bath Amenities.

    • Where to start?? This home is amazing. No detail has been overlooked. My family and I rented over the Christmas holidays. We were delighted with everything from the decor, linens, location to the hospitality given prior to our arrival by the owners. This is a top notch retreat for anyone. I would definitely rent over and over again.

    • We have stayed in 8 VRBO properties and this one is one of the best. The furnishings and artwork are appropriate to the beautiful mountain setting. Every detail for comfort has been carefully prepared. Linens and tableware are of the best quality, and the kitchen is stocked better than my kitchen at home. I had no trouble preparing Thanksgiving dinner for 9 people. The stove has six burners and the oven held a turkey and had plenty of room to spare for several baking dishes. Every kind and size of baking dish that you could ever need is provided. There are enough private spaces in the house to allow everyone to find a place to read or work - my sister loved the desk area and worked on her book there. My little niece took her book to the swinging beds. Every morning I would wake early, fix my coffee and then just "tour the house." The sun comes up behind the hills at the rear of the house, and so if you sit in the living room and look out at the mountains, you can watch them slowly take on the morning light. The artwork and rugs compete with the view - all beautiful. My mom commented that the place "feels" so good - careful attention has been paid to fabric textures for bedding, chairs, etc. Beautiful tile work and very nice bath fixtures. We took our small dog, and enjoyed the good walking areas with him, and twice came upon a large flock of wild turkeys that live in the woods behind the house. The golf course staff could not have been more welcoming. We had planned to have lunch at the clubhouse before golf one day, but the restaurant was closed. The golf pro found sandwiches in the kitchen for us! What more could you ask . . . but there is more . . . the course is beautiful and the pro shop full of great gear. It is a short drive up to Highlands for shopping and dining out, and a short drive down to Cashiers for groceries and farmers market. One great feature we had never seen was the gas starter on the fireplace. The fireplace burns wood, but starts with gas. Wish we had that at home!!

      Homeowner Response:
This is also from our Thanksgiving Renters. Just couldn't resist not posting this version. Thanks for staying with us T.B. - Bill

    • We have rented many wonderful vacations properties, but this one is the most thoughtfully appointed and tastefully and beautifully decorated. The first mornings there, I would wake early (without backache, because the beds are so comfortable, and the linens and blankets so plush), make a cup of coffee, and then "tour the rooms," so I could enjoy the beautiful artwork, rugs and color combinations. My niece could not resist taking her book to the swinging beds on a sunny afternoon. The dog enjoyed many walks in the woods, and twice we came upon a flock of wild turkeys. For Thanksgiving Dinner, the oven held a large turkey as well as several baking dishes. Cookware, china and glassware is best quality. The grill is a dream. There is enough room (outdoor living areas are varied, beautiful and comfortable) (lower den is cozy and has a bar and ice maker) for everyone to find a quiet space. My sister found the desk area in the lower den to be a very comfortable and out-of-the-way place to work on her book. Lots of firewood and an easy-to-start fireplace - burns wood but starts with gas - we had never seen that combination, and we wish we had that at home! The Old Edwards temporary membership was a blessing - golf staff could not have been more welcoming, and the clubhouse and golf course are beautiful. This home with golf ammenities was great in November, but would be beyond compare in spring, summer and early fall when the mountain scenery around the golf course would truly shine. It's a short drive down to Cashiers to Ingles for groceries and a short drive up to Highlands for great shopping.

I will tell you that we loved the house - especially the kitchen and the beds. My friend and I cooked breakfast for seventeen on Saturday morning and were elated with that HUGE frying pan that held the entire pound of bacon. Mercy! There was nothing to want for in your kitchen. I think that I would enjoy cooking again if I had that bright, open and well stocked kitchen. Everyone raved about the beds and the wonderful night sleep. Each of us loved the way the rooms were decorated. Now that is a real accomplishment! The guys were all engineers and they do not recognize anything that isn't greasy or dirty as being pleasing to the eye. So, a hearty pat on the back for you two! Even the towels and the view from each bedroom got rave reviews. The small touches through out the house did not go unnoticed either. I especially loved wrapping up in the white lap blanket. Curt's engineers loved the screened in porch and the gas fireplace. And they all loved sitting around the dining room table as my friend and I worked in the kitchen. Nor could we get over how many places you two have been via your photo log! That was so interesting because we are retired military and have moved all over the world and the USA. So we tripped down memory lane or expressed our desire to go to some of the places that you have vacationed. In case you have not gotten the drift - we loved our week-end at your home. Your home is awesome and it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to stay there. Marti PS: We read your instruction booklet and tried to follow them to a "t". I hope that we did not fall short! The booklet is a wonderful idea. We did not have to guess at how to operate anything or what you wanted done, etc. Kudos for this also!
