The condo is in a much sought after urbanization. It is very private and has easy access. The condo itself is of an exceptional standard with all the best that Europe can offer of appliances and furnishings in general, having been designed by a professional. It is large and has an incredible amount of storage space. The village is within walking distance, albeit a bit steep walking home! A rental car is therefore recommended and this can easily be arranged online, at the airport or in the market town of Almunecar, some 7 km away.
La Herradura is a village in the province of Granada with easy access by air from Malaga Airport (45 minutes away). There are many flights daily from many European cities.
The village is situated right on the coast of the most easterly end of the Costa del Sol (La Herradura means the horseshoe bay) and was only a few years ago a fishing village with its own little fleet. Not so any more, the place has grown into an exclusive little resort. Africa’s northern coast can reputedly be seen from a mountaintop nearby on a clear day.
The village boasts lots of water sports, tennis, golfing nearby, mountain hiking and of course, every possibility for swimming and sunbathing on the beach. There are many shops and lots of excellent restaurants and bars. The urbanization where this property is located has its own large communal swimming pool and tennis courts. The village itself and the beach are within walking distance, although a car is recommended in the heat of the summer. An untold number of car hire companies operate at the airport.
La Herradura is surrounded by mountains, traditionally cultivated by vines, almonds and olives; these days the farmers have concentrated on the more profitable crops of avocados and other tropical fruits like cherimoya, nispero and mango. The market town of Almunecar lies 8 km east and 18 km to the west is Nerja, which is a busy and delightful little town and well worth visiting. The city of Granada itself with the Alhambra from the area’s Moorish days, is a must, although prior bookings for sightseeing are necessary. Both Almunecar and Nerja have weekly street markets and these are also highly recommended. The Caves of Nerja is another must; in the summer concerts or ballet performances are often held here. These caves are wonderful and cool and here one can view an 80 cm tall prehistoric man.
The climate is without doubt the very best in the whole of mainland Europe, and that coupled with the easy and inexpensive access by air, makes this area Europe’s playground. The local climate is superior even to Malaga, which is less than one hour away; this little pocket benefits from a micro climate which makes it particularly desirable for sun-starved northerners!
