Wild Bluff on the Edisto is nestled on a high bluff hidden among the trees and wildlife overlooking the longest free flowing black water river in North America. Designed by landscape architect Robert E. Marvin, this 3-level glass house, built of post and beam construction, attracts those searching for a peaceful and relaxing experience. Characterized by its serenity, the brightest light may be the moon’s reflection off the flowing river. (Wild Bluff has been featured in Southern Living magazine as a featured house design.)

AVAILABLE ACTIVITIES: Canoeing, kayaking, reading, relaxing, fishing from the dock, and perfect retreat for authors. This section of the Edisto is perfect for small boats, canoes and kayaks but not recommended for larger boats, jet skis, or water skiing. LINKS: Please see the links at the bottom of the page for more information on the Edisto River and Walterboro's South Carolina Artisans Center.

AMENITIES:
1 Queen , 1 full bed, 2 single beds, 2 couches
1 ½ bathrooms
Large screen porch nestled on the bank of the Edisto
Lighted dock with small patio and swing

YOUNG CHILDREN: While Wild Bluff is an ideal family getaway, many of its most enjoyable features may also put young children (5 or younger) at risk for injury, including: spiral stairway, large sliding glass windows (overlooking the river); and much of the outside areas adjacent to the river (atop a steep incline in many areas). Additionally, the house is not equipped with baby-safe protections such as socket plugs, etc. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

DOGS: Pets are welcome, but for similar reasons, we caution pet owners of potential risks (as our dogs find their way to the river within minutes of arriving). Pets not accustomed to rivers or surrounding woods may require additional supervision; thus, we ask owners to exercise caution and plan accordingly (pets are welcome to be kept in the house, off the furniture, but preferably on the screened porch). Due to the wooded area, fleas and ticks will likely be in the woods, be certain your dog is properly treated for fleas and ticks. We charge a $25 flat pet fee (not per pet). Please contact me with any questions or concerns. That said, our dogs absolutely love it! RENTER MAY BRING PETS AT THEIR OWN RISK. OWNER IS NOT LIABLE FOR INJURY, ILLNESS, OR OTHER HARM THAT MAY OCCUR TO PETS WHILE AT WILD BLUFF OR ITS SURROUNDINGS.

LIABILITY: Guests are liable for any damage to any part of the owner's property not due to normal wear and tear.

Serene setting in an interesting and remarkable home

Guest: amsuma (Holly Hill, FL)

This is a fascinating home with a sensational setting! Quiet, beautiful and remote location. The owner is readily available and responsive to questions. I thoroughly enjoyed the surroundings and the unique attributes of the home and outdoor areas. I look forward to visiting again! Probably not a good choice for those who have high end demands and need state of the art electronics. This place is for nature lovers and people looking for a calming retreat. Also, I would not recommend small children for this setting due to the issues cited by owner.

Very Private Getaway

Guest: Shawna (Monroe, North Carolina)
Date of Stay: 11/11/11 Review Submitted: 11/14/11

My husband and I stayed at Wild Bluff last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were visiting family and needed a private retreat close by. It is truly a treehouse and allows beautiful views of the river that are particularly beautiful at sunrise. I especially liked the laid back atmosphere of the place. We will be back!!

Perfect Getaway

Guest: mandy (atlanta)
Date of Stay: 07/22/11 Review Submitted: 07/27/11

We had the best time this past weekend at Wild Bluff. Everything here is perfect- from the amazing architecture to breathtaking sunset views. We were looking for a break from the city and we found it. We brought our two dogs and they loved playing in the river. The private dock goes right into the cool, calm waters of the Edisto. There are a few deeper swimming holes but when we were there the water was at waist height or lower out towards the middle of the river-perfect!. We saw some beautiful wildlife and relaxed on our tubes while floating the river. We will absolutely return to Wild Bluff soon. This place really is a hidden treasure.

Rustic Getaway

Guest: Kylan (South Carolina)
Date of Stay: 03/01/11 Review Submitted: 03/06/11

If you are looking for a quiet place away from civilization and modern technology, this is the place for you. The cabin is very rustic with amazing views. We felt as though we were staying in an adult tree house. The home is completely open with no curtains or walls to obstruct views. Would be travelers should heed owner's warning regarding small children. I would not recommend this home for folks with children under the age of 12. There are steep gullies and a narrow pathway to the dock that overhangs a ravine which is only railed on one side. In addition inside the house, you have a narrow spiral stair case and lots of glass doors that open to allow air in. Once the glass doors are open, the only things seperating you from the water are thin screens and trees. We had a wonderful time and will likely go again.

Pure Relaxation!

Guest: KayakerChris (Charleston)

I had a wonderful and relaxing stay here. It is a beautiful setting in the trees overlooking the river. The way the house is positioned on a bluff affords a panoramic view of river and woods. Great kayaking (I covered 25 miles from Green Pond to Mars Oldfield landing in two trips). I definitely want to return!!

There is no place like it. You can't beat staying in Robert Marvin's hidden log cabin on the banks of the longest and largest river system completely contained by the borders of South Carolina. Make sure you bring your "river rat" so you can enjoy tubing the Edisto. If you want a get-away, this is where you should be. It is quiet & peaceful with all the outdoor amenities including plenty of shooting stars (only if you dare to venture down the long boardwalk to the dock).
