I always say the true test of a property is what the owner does when things go wrong!! We had an unusually eventful time at this property. There were issues with the hot water and then the refrigerator. Amanda, the owner, was easily reached and very attentive to our issues. By the end of our stay my husband and Amanda were BFFs!! She even compensated us for the problems! This is a great place to stay if you want to hike in the national park or the state park ( where the black sand beach is!). Our weather was great for hiking not so much for the ocean- a little too cool for me! The cottage has the bare minimum needed for cooking. I assume most people do not cook every meal there as we did. The bed is comfortable. The futon in the living room would be ok for the kids to sleep on. The grill was a challenge to start so I avoided it! There were adequate towels ( even beach towels). The washer and dryer were large capacity and immaculate . There was no bathing soap so take a bar of soap along ( not a big deal). There is no cell service but the owner has graciously supplied a land line that you can use. The satellite TV and wireless worked flawlessly. There is a large cooler that you can use- make ice or buy in Hana for $2.00 a bag.

We wanted to spend a night in Hana since it takes a good part of the day to get there and what's the use in driving all that way and then just turning around...you can't even enjoy the town itself. The house is located off the main road to Hana and is basically in it's own little world. It is very peaceful and the grounds are neatly kept. The house looks small from the outside but it's a one bedroom cottage so what do you expect. However, once you get in you realize there is plenty of room...for even 4+ people if you wanted to. The bedroom is spacious and the bed is friggin' great. One of the best nights sleep I had in Maui. The kitchen is well equipped and has what you need to prepare a meal or meals. The bathroom is very big as well. The porch is screened in and made for a very good evening. We stayed up well in to the night hootin' and hollerin' and having a good time and never had to worry about bothering anyone (except one grumpy sister-in-law) but that's another story!! It is a little bit further out from Hana than I thought it would be but I think that added to the charm of the place. It is overall, quiet, comfortable and well appointed. You can't go wrong for the price either and the property manager is very nice and helpful. We had some issues with the property that were quickly addressed.

This is a beautiful location in Hana at a very reasonable price. It is set back from the road enough to be secluded, nice partial view of the ocean, beautiful grounds. The best part was the MOST comfortable of all 4 condos we stayed in this trip! Very rainy area, but rain experience was relaxing and made EVERYTHING green and lush. Suggestions for guests: You MUST sit on the bench atop a knoll on the property for an excellent view surrounded by amazing flowers. Go to Koki beach after picking up some food at Brudda Huts roadside (get it to go). Nice beach , fun boogie boarding. Also Red Sand Beach (wear GOOD shoes, short hike but steep/slippery) is amazing, can be right up next to water coming over rocks but sheltered swimming. Minor suggestions to owner bring this location up to a 5 star rating: fix the window/door screens. This area has lots of mosquitos and screens were bent on doors and windows, allowing them in. Oversized tub is very relaxing but jacuzzi jets do not work and needs a plug for the drain.Wax gasket on toilet needs replacing - leak at base (did not affect us in any way, just thought you should know). One of the boogie boards was broken, but still worked due to cover keeping it together. Thanks for having the boards and chairs for us to use! Overall GREAT experience, already have recommended to friends, who will be staying there soon!

My sister and I stayed here during first few days of our trip. Being just a few miles from Hana, it's a perfect location to explore this side of the island. The cottage is conveniently close to the road, but far enough away so we weren't bothered by road traffic at all. The area has a private, isolated foresty feel to it with lots of surrounding greenery, and a view of the ocean. It was a full moon so we got to watch it rise, which was wonderful. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the facilities were perfect, clean and well kept. Having the beach equipment was very useful too, we really appreciated that. Loved the grassy area just outside, great place to practice yoga. Didn't realize there was a gardener until we came back one day and the grass was mowed. I loved the seclusion and the fact that there weren't people all around, like the resorts on the other side of the island. Felt like we had our own space. Yet a few miles down the road we could be surrounded by people, so we didn't feel alone. Amanda was wonderful and easy to work with. If I visit Maui again, I will definitely stay here, and will recommend to family and friends. Mahalo Nui, Amanda!!

This was a perfect place to explore the Hana area and the house itself was all I could have asked for. In all of that I agree with the other reviews. My only problem while there was that from 8am-noon on my first day there, I was made aware that this is a working flower farm and had to listen to the sound of weedeaters for those 4 hours. This was going to be my rest and catch up on jet lag day, and this was not to be. Close to noon I did go out and ask when they would be finished, knowing it was not their fault, just doing their job. They were very polite and said they would be finished at noon. For many out exploring this would not be an inconvenience, but just be aware that this could happen. All that being said, I would still recommend this place to stay for all the other great reasons. Oh, and by the way, there is a fruit stand just down the road and a place to buy fresh fish - both were delicious and quite reasonable.

Owner response: Aloha Janice & thank you for your review! We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at the cottage, despite the early wake up. Our sincerest apologies! Our flower farm policy, for work with weedeaters & the leaf blower, limits use between 10:00am - 4:00pm for guests' quiet enjoyment. Our regular yardman who comes 1-2 times a week was on vacation & the couple he had helping in his absence mistakenly came early to our property. They felt terrible for the oversight! Thank you again for your kind words & for keeping me informed. Our guests' comfort is very important to us. Besides that, it sounds like you found all the right spots during your time in Hana:) Mahalo Nui & happy travels! -Amanda

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 5 nights and found it very difficult leave this wonderful place! We love the East side of Maui and found this cottage a great base for exploring or just simply relaxing and taking in the beautiful view from the lanai. I felt that there was a lot of thought put into providing us with everything we might need, we were surprised it was so well stocked... there were beach mats, a cooler, even aloe vera for our sunburns! TIPS: I definitely recommend picking up any food or drinks you think you will need before you leave Kahului. The small store in Hana is pricey and lacked many things we would have liked to have. Also, if you decide to make the trip to O'heo gulch or hike the Pipiwai trail (which is gorgeous), try to check out Ae's Thai food truck a couple minutes down the road, it is the best on the island. We really enjoyed everything about staying here and felt it played a big part in making our vacation perfect. We will absolutely return on our next visit. Mahalo!

This is a great place to stay when exploring the Hana side of Maui. We concur with all of the reviews and did not see a trace of any ants :-). We live on Oahu so know that ants come with the territory. The only thing I would recommend, if you are planning on having breakfast or dinner in the well stocked kitchen, is stocking up on groceries before coming to the Hana area. There are two markets in Hana town but selection is somewhat limited. There are two restaurants for dinner after 5:00p.m.- Hana Ranch and the Hotel. Before that you can find a great Thai meal at a little outdoor cafe across from the ball fields in town and next to the Hana School. There are also many fruit/food stands along the way and the Clay oven at the stand 3 miles or so from the cottage does offer pizza on Friday and Saturday evenings. For Sunday dinner look for signs that advertise plate dinners at Koki Beach. This was good and quite fun for our Sunday dinner. There was live music and it's a great way to talk story with some of the locals. Lastly, bring an umbrella so you will be prepared for rain showers, especially in the evening. It's part of the coziness of the location. Aloha!
