IL GINKGO – Breathtaking rental in the very heart of Bologna historical center, beautiful garden, everything provided.
Il Ginkgo, which you get to through one of the many tiny, typical porticoed streets making the historical center of this Italian capital of gourmet food, culture and night life worldwide famous, is without any doubt one of the most elegant, convenient rentals in Bologna and has a special feeling about it, warm and welcoming.
Only 5 minutes walk from Piazza Maggiore, surrounded by all kinds of shops and stores, the bus stop at 100 mts., this great rental features a very hard-to-find amenity these days in a city center: a beautiful, totally accessible deep-in-the-green private garden, a true delight for your al-fresco dining and relaxing.
The apartment has been recently refurbished in total observance of its original 1800’s features and style – from the yellow and red wall plasters to the green doors and window shutters, the shady lobby, the wooden floors mirroring the timber celings, and so on.
For such a house granting the comfort and the atmosphere of a true country house in the very center of an urban setting we selected the furniture and the furnishing with a particular eye for both tradition and functionality. Antiques and top-quality local craft in each room, but also a jetted tub, an old-style yet perfectly equipped kitchen featuring all the most modern appliances, tools and plenty of cups, dishes, silverware, adsl/wifi broadband internet connection, portable a/c unit, satellite tv, dvd, and much more.
Il Ginkgo – about 110 square meters in size, plus garden – can comfortably accommodate up to 8-9 persons in a living-sitting room giving to the garden and featuring a design sofa, a large, beautiful old-fashioned kitchen, a master en-suite bedroom with a queen-size bed, another bedroom with two singles and two additional single futons on a loft, a studio room with two singles, two bathrooms, one with a shower cabin, the other, accessible from the master bedroom through a storage-laundry space, with a shower in a jetted tub.
Cool in the Summer and warm in the Winter, very quiet, elegant, extremely convenient and centrally located, with bed sheets, bathroom and kitchen towels provided, Il Ginkgo places itself at the top of all rentals in Bologna. We look forward to your visit soon!

Map & Owner's Profile
Il Ginkgo – Breathtaking - in the Heart of Bologna - Garden
Year Purchased: 1990
Why the Owner Chose Bologna
The apartment is easily reachable from both the airport and the train station (the latter at walking distance) and convenient to all spots in town, including the fairground and the university. The excellent Bologna public transportation system gets you everywhere quickly and inexpensively (ticket: 1€/person/1 hour) - the stop is just 60 mts. and buses run around the clock. Florence, Venice, Ferrara, Mantua, Milan, the Adriatic shore etc. can be easily and inexpensively visited by train in minutes. Even though driving is not recommended in the city historical center, there is a public garage no more than 100 mts from the house. The hills are at walking distance and the San Luca hilltop cathedral can be reached in about 1 hour very pleasant walk.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment
Many typical Bolognese restaurants, stores and shops are nearby and so is a very well stocked grocery store. Maps, restaurant and event guides are provided. A very large physical plant (swimming pools, tennis courts, tracks...) can be reached in about 25 minutes walk (8 by bus stopping at the corner). A spa/health and fitness center is about 2 kms (bus). Unique feature: the house is located in one of the very few completely quiet side streets of the historical center. Very safe area, even at night.

We stayed at this property in August 2009 and would highly recommend it. Its location is superb, a 10 minute walk to the city centre. The property itself is beautiful, tastefully decorated with lovely artwork a spacious bathroom and courtyard style garden. One thing that struck us a family traveling with two young kids was how well equiped the house was, a stereo with the most beautiful collection of music was to hand, there was even toys for the kids to play with. The owner was on hand if we needed anything. For us it ticked all the boxes and I would recomend it to my best friend! We certainly will stay there again in the future. The Siebelink Family, Ireland
Owner response:Thank you so much! It was a pleasure having you over and surely look forward to your next visit soon. All the best, Graziella.

Hello from Austria! Our family of 6 stayed at this apartment in September 2011. We go to Italy every year - mostly Rome, but this time we picked Bologna and this apartment was pure enjoyment, probably the best we ever rented! It is roomy, extremely clean and comfy, with plenty of light and a fabulous garden. We drove to Bologna and parked our car in the nearby parking lot, then we totally forgot about it - due to the apartment's central location it is possible to walk to every spot in town, Piazza Maggiore being only 8-10 minutes walk. There are a couple of great restaurants nearby and Graziella, the owner, was very sweet and helpful. All in all we recommend this rental to everyone looking for convenience, comfort and quality.
Owner response:Thank you so much! We keep receiving plenty of great reviews like yours, it is very flattering and encourages us to do even better. Ciao!

We (2 couples) stayed here for over a week in the fall. The manager/owner (Graziella) was always available to help and answer questions. We loved the large kitchen and spent almost all our time there. We walked everywhere; to the center of town was 10-15 minutes. Instructions on how things work at the apartment were very clear. The only downside is that the wi-fi wasn't reliable. The other issue in early September is that we couldn't really hang out in the pretty garden because of the nasty mosquitoes -- a seasonal problem that we couldn't escape.
Owner response:Hi Marian - Thanks for the review! We got the wifi fixed (there was a problem with the provider, we scolded him!). The mosquitoes were actually Drosophila Melanogaste, official Latin name for what we call "Moscerino del Vino", "Wine (or Fruit) Fly". Fall is wine making season here and there are a couple of wine cellars next door - hence the little creepers flying around in the garden. Ciao.

The place is great and the owners, as they say, gentilissimi. The Franke stove is great to work with, if you're into cooking. Be ready to fight tiny but evil mosquitos!
Owner response:Thank you so much, Radu. The tiny mosquitoes were actually Drosophila Melanogaste, official Latin name for what we call "Moscerino del Vino", "Wine (or Fruit) Fly". Mid-October is wine making season here and there are a couple of wine cellars next door - hence the little creepers flying around in the garden. I hope you come back soon to enjoy the newly-produce nectar with us!

Our family of 6 (2nd time in Bologna) stayed at this apartment at the end of June 2011 and thoroughly loved it. Photos do not do justice to it - the apartment is roomier, brighter, exceptionally quiet, wonderfully furnished and perfectly located in the heart of the historical district of Bologna. The owner, Graziella, was both helpful and discrete, being there only when needed. We particularly loved the garden and the general cleanliness of the apartment with the only drawback consisting in the garden oven, which is an antique and there just for decoration. Surprisingly for the season (or perhaps because of the flying bug trap in the patio), there were no mosquitoes ot other annoying bugs, which is a big plus for a city house surrounded by green! Great price-quality ratio and owner's courtesy, we recommend Il Ginkgo highly. Emile & Family, Bordeaux, France
Owner response:Thanks, Emile. We look forward to the next time for you here. Ciao!

Unfortunately our stay did not live up to the information and pictures provided on the VRBO website. There were copious quantities of ants in both bathrooms that could not be abated. The second bathroom was only accessable through a laundry area away from the bedroom. The ceiling in the bathroom was quite low and felt quite clostrophobic. The laundry area housed a drain, which when full, bred mosquitoes. Because of the mosquites, we were not able to open any of the windows for ventilation. There were cocroaches in the kitchen, which, combined with the ants and mosquitoes, made a 5 days stay seem like 5 months. We were only contacted by the owner when she wanted to tell us to be out by 10:00am as she had family coming to stay! I would say that's not a way to covet returning clients. I and my other 2 friends were extremely disappointed.
Owner response:This “vendetta review” is the result of an argument we had with these people (the dirtiest guests we had in a long time) on keeping trash in the house when you have a garden, as we do. That happened the last day of their stay, when we found the many bags of garbage they had left behind, an amazingly dirty bathroom and towels that had been used in a way I rather not describe. When confronted with the above, they just yelled at us promising retaliation once home. They are right when they say their 5 days stay seemed like 5 months, we could not wait for them to leave! Too bad, also, they did not use the effective mosquito lamp we purchased for tiger mosquitoes (a very common bug here in the last 5-6 years) and shown them from the very first day. As for the cockroaches, we never had any, thank God – or this would show clearly from other guests reviews, I suppose. We are sorry we cannot quote this people’s names to warn our fellow owners against renting to them.

My wife, her sister and I spent 1 week in Il Gingko and were pleasantly surprised. The pictures accurately reflect the apartment and was very nice. We enjoyed the location with everything in walking distance, though during the trip we must have walked all of bologna. When we return, we will certainly contact Graziella for availability.

Estuvimos cuatro personas, Graziella tuvo el detalle de preocuparse para que las habitaciones estuvieran a nuestro gusto. El contar con un jardín para desayunar y cenar fue muy agradable. Es un lugar que recomendamos y al que volveríamos
