Our family of 4 spent 3 weeks in this lovely quiet apartment within easy walking distance of central Bologna. It was clean, well equipped, and very comfortable. We never did figure out the bus system, but walking to the central shopping and attractions was very easy. I recommend a taxi to the train station as it is about a 40 minute walk. We attended the local language school and cooking school while in Bologna and the location and amenities were perfect. The only improvement could be internet access. The signal only seemed to work outside in the garden.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Our family of 6 stayed over Easter 2012. The house was bright, clean, cozy, a home away from home in the heart of Bologna. The kitchen was well stocked and everything we needed was provided. The owner was very helpful whenever we had a question or problem to resolve. Parking is about 100 meters away and a grocery store 200 meters away. Also a bakery for freshly baked bread in the morning and a pizzeria for an evening snack just a few doors down. It's about a 15-20 minute walk to the main market and everything in the historical city centre was in walking distance. We would gladly stay there again on a future visit to Bologna!Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

The place is great and the owners, as they say, gentilissimi. The Franke stove is great to work with, if you're into cooking. Be ready to fight tiny but evil mosquitos!Owner response: Thank you so much, Radu. The tiny mosquitoes were actually Drosophila Melanogaste, official Latin name for what we call "Moscerino del Vino", "Wine (or Fruit) Fly". Mid-October is wine making season here and there are a couple of wine cellars next door - hence the little creepers flying around in the garden. I hope you come back soon to enjoy the newly-produce nectar with us!

Hello from Austria! Our family of 6 stayed at this apartment in September 2011. We go to Italy every year - mostly Rome, but this time we picked Bologna and this apartment was pure enjoyment, probably the best we ever rented! It is roomy, extremely clean and comfy, with plenty of light and a fabulous garden. We drove to Bologna and parked our car in the nearby parking lot, then we totally forgot about it - due to the apartment's central location it is possible to walk to every spot in town, Piazza Maggiore being only 8-10 minutes walk. There are a couple of great restaurants nearby and Graziella, the owner, was very sweet and helpful. All in all we recommend this rental to everyone looking for convenience, comfort and quality.Owner response: Thank you so much! We keep receiving plenty of great reviews like yours, it is very flattering and encourages us to do even better. Ciao!

We (2 couples) stayed here for over a week in the fall. The manager/owner (Graziella) was always available to help and answer questions. We loved the large kitchen and spent almost all our time there. We walked everywhere; to the center of town was 10-15 minutes. Instructions on how things work at the apartment were very clear. The only downside is that the wi-fi wasn't reliable. The other issue in early September is that we couldn't really hang out in the pretty garden because of the nasty mosquitoes -- a seasonal problem that we couldn't escape.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hi Marian - Thanks for the review! We got the wifi fixed (there was a problem with the provider, we scolded him!). The mosquitoes were actually Drosophila Melanogaste, official Latin name for what we call "Moscerino del Vino", "Wine (or Fruit) Fly". Our family of 6 (2nd time in Bologna) stayed at this apartment at the end of June 2011 and thoroughly loved it. Photos do not do justice to it - the apartment is roomier, brighter, exceptionally quiet, wonderfully furnished and perfectly located in the heart of the historical district of Bologna. The owner, Graziella, was both helpful and discrete, being there only when needed. We particularly loved the garden and the general cleanliness of the apartment with the only drawback consisting in the garden oven, which is an antique and there just for decoration. Surprisingly for the season (or perhaps because of the flying bug trap in the patio), there were no mosquitoes ot other annoying bugs, which is a big plus for a city house surrounded by green! Great price-quality ratio and owner's courtesy, we recommend Il Ginkgo highly. Emile & Family, Bordeaux, FranceRecommended for: Families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks, Emile. We look forward to the next time for you here. Ciao!

Unfortunately our stay did not live up to the information and pictures provided on the VRBO website. There were copious quantities of ants in both bathrooms that could not be abated. The second bathroom was only accessable through a laundry area away from the bedroom. The ceiling in the bathroom was quite low and felt quite clostrophobic. The laundry area housed a drain, which when full, bred mosquitoes. Because of the mosquites, we were not able to open any of the windows for ventilation. There were cocroaches in the kitchen, which, combined with the ants and mosquitoes, made a 5 days stay seem like 5 months. We were only contacted by the owner when she wanted to tell us to be out by 10:00am as she had family coming to stay! I would say that's not a way to covet returning clients. I and my other 2 friends were extremely disappointed.Owner response: This “vendetta review” is the result of an argument we had with these people (the dirtiest guests we had in a long time) on keeping trash in the house when you have a garden, as we do. That happened the last day of their stay, when we found the many bags of garbage they had left behind, an amazingly dirty bathroom and towels that had been used in a way I rather not describe. When confronted with the above, they just yelled at us promising retaliation once home. They are right when they say their 5 days stay seemed like 5 months, we could not wait for them to leave! Too bad, also, they did not use the effective mosquito lamp we purchased for tiger mosquitoes (a very common bug here in the last 5-6 years) and shown them from the very first day. As for the cockroaches, we never had any, thank God – or this would show clearly from other guests reviews, I suppose. We are sorry we cannot quote this people’s names to warn our fellow owners against renting to them.

My wife, her sister and I spent 1 week in Il Gingko and were pleasantly surprised. The pictures accurately reflect the apartment and was very nice. We enjoyed the location with everything in walking distance, though during the trip we must have walked all of bologna. When we return, we will certainly contact Graziella for availability.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Lovely accommodation conveniently situated for historic centre of Bologna. Good local transport from bus stop within 100m of apartment but very easy to walk to city centre. Excellent facilities in apartment, quiet garden and comfortable beds. Graziella was extraordinarily kind and helpful as a host. Would thoroughly recommend Bologna as a centre to visit and this apartment as a base for that visit. Would love to return.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

This is a beutiful and prestigious apartment located in the heart of the historical center of Bolonia with all at hand, Piazza Maggiore being at a few minutes walk. It is spacious, light filled, clean and provides all you need, and more. The garden is fantastic and the owner was always eager to help when we asked (she even assisted us at 2:00 am when we locked ourselves out!). We felt like kings at Il Ginko, I can say all the reviews on this webpage are true and the apartment is even better than it shows in the pictures. We have already booked our Christmas vacation here and recommend Il Ginko to all - great value! - AntonioDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

This apartment is perfect for 2 couples. It has a great kitchen and 2 separate bathrooms. The best feature is the courtyard under the ginko tree. We spent many hours out there reading, eating and drinking our vino. The owner lives just 2 floors up, so she is available for questions and suggestions about Bologna or the area. She is also a great cook! We didn't have a car. We either walked, rode our bikes, took trains or an occasional taxi. The train station is walking distance. This property is a very good value!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Four of us stayed very comfortably in the apartment at the end of March this year. We had everything we needed and especially liked the central location of the apartment which was within walking distance to most of the places we needed to be. Being able to cook our own meals when we felt like it, plus do our own washing, was wonderful.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

We enjoyed our stay at Il Ginkgo. It was a very clean and safe property. As Bologna is not too large, we were able to walk just about everywhere. When we couldn't, we took the local buses. The kitchen was spacious and very well equipped. When we were there it was cold (February, 2010), however, this unit has a great outdoor space that can be used in milder weather. Lovely little markets nearby and an Internet facility only a couple of minutes away. A great typical restaurant in Bologna, Console and Co, is just around the corner. We also enjoyed Drogheria Della Rosa and Restaurante de Poeti.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Definitely the most beautiful apartment I have rented in Italy so far. It is elegantly furnished, with plenty of room and a fully stocked kitchen, the jacuzzi being a real treat after a long walk under the arches of Bologna. Wonderful, wonderful garden! Everything at hand and a great atmosphere both inside and outside. It is definitely an excellent value for your money. Thanks, Graziella! We'll be back!Did you find this review helpful? My husband, three year old daughter and I stayed in Il Gingko in October 2009. The apartment is lovely. It looks just as it does in the photos and is spacious, comfortable and well decorated. The apartment was very clean when we arrived. The beds are extremely comfortable and the apartment is fully equipped (soap, toilet paper, laundry detergent, coffee, sugar, dishes, sponges). There was even a high chair and crib for our daughter. We have stayed in many apartments before and this is the first time that we did not need to buy a thing. There are also plenty of towels, blankets and pillows which, in my experience, is fairly rare in rentals. I would absolutely stay there again and would recommend to a friend. The kitchen is really great - I wish I had a kitchen like that at home! Graziella is wonderful. She really went out of her way to help us even when we locked ourselves out at 4.30am on our way to the airport to go home. She lives upstairs and is easy to reach if you need her. The location is good too. There is a nice cafe on the block and very close to the center of town. Bologna is fantastic. We hope to go back soon. Arrive hungry!Did you find this review helpful? We stayed at this property in August 2009 and would highly recommend it. Its location is superb, a 10 minute walk to the city centre. The property itself is beautiful, tastefully decorated with lovely artwork a spacious bathroom and courtyard style garden. One thing that struck us a family traveling with two young kids was how well equiped the house was, a stereo with the most beautiful collection of music was to hand, there was even toys for the kids to play with. The owner was on hand if we needed anything. For us it ticked all the boxes and I would recomend it to my best friend! We certainly will stay there again in the future. Owner response: Thank you so much! It was a pleasure having you over and surely look forward to your next visit soon. All the best, Graziella.
