Apartment in a splendid historical palace of the 15° century, recently totally restructured, located in the center of the Town of Ferrara, one of the noblest Italian Cities of the Renaissance. The importance is confirmed by Google Earth as one of the most important pieces of the history of Ferrara (please click on Google Earth....). The apartment is completely new, in the structures and the furnishing, located in the center of the City; it is perfectly silent, totally isolated: over (is the roof) and under (is an ancient porch), and laterally flanked by a centennial garden. Access to the staircase and elevator is practically separate. There is no problem with easy access for the elderly or disabled. From the apartment you can easily access public transportation. Included in the price is the availability of a reserved secure place for a car in a closed court-yard attached to the place of the apartment.
Ferrara is located just between Veneto Region and Emilia-Romagna Region in a baricentric position, from where, by superhighway or railway, many important places can be very easily reached, as well as the Apennines and the seaside.
Ferrara has been an important medieval center and one of the most gorgeous courts of the Renaissance. Its harmonious and inimitable face arises from the plot of shady and irregular roads of its medieval quarters and the luminous and geometrical spaces of the Renaissance age. The town is enriched by splendid palaces, houses, churches, squares, roads, gardens and of works of art preserved in its innumerable museums, which constitute one of its bigger attractions. It is a town to be lived walking, finding out in every corner its character of Capital of the Renaissance and gathering from this glorious past the reasons for its present. It was in the Renaissance that Ferrara reached its maximum brightness below the Dukes of Este, whose exponents erected important historical monuments (the Castle, Diamond’s Palace- that lodges international reputation painting Exhibitions- Schifanoia Palace etc …).
Ferrara has one of the most ancient Italian universities (in 1503 Nicolò Copernicus received there the University degree) and it was an important economic center, where numerous Hebrew communities were called, leaving very interesting historical testimonies. The town is also connected by a cycle track to the Po river, the most important of Italy, characteristic for his delta, which offers marvelous naturalistic views. Also in the evening the town can offer pleasant moments. The dishes typical of the kitchen of Ferrara in the restaurants and inns placed in the narrow streets of medieval epoch can be tasted; near the splendid romantic-Gothic Cathedral several wine cellars are found, among which the more ancient of the world, “at Brindisi” (frequented in 1435 by famous personalities as Cellini, Titian Vecellio, Ludovico Ariosto and Torquato Tasso).
The Municipal Theater in front of Estense Castle, rich of high-level events both for the prose and dance and the music, while, the loving of the jazz, can taste a good glass of wine in the Tower of the walls, seat of a famous Jazz-Club. Ferrara is also place of a Road Musical Festival, which in September recalls tourists from all Europe, and which animates the roads of the town both in the day and at night. Outside of the town are also the numerous summer residences of the Estenses and museums which remember the ancient origins of this zone of Italy, where in old times lived the Etruscans. Finds of the greco-etruscan town of Spina, whose importance, as commercial emporium and point of meeting of the Greek and Etruscan civilizations, is testified by the presence of many objects of several origin, some of very skilled manufacture. Finds include a time span from the last decades of the VI Century B.C. up to the half of III Century A.C.
Magnificent historical places and tourist resorts are in the direct neighborhood of Ferrara, as the Abbey of Pomposa.:masterpiece of the Roman and Byzantine art, the Abbey announces himself in distance with his polling bell tower, lighthouse in the green sea which surrounds it. The church was founded in the VI century and from the half of the IX century it began to operate the first Benedictine monastic community, which reached his maximum brightness after the year a Thousand, when the Abbot's spiritual and political jurisdiction extended himself on all the surrounding resorts. True and real culture lighthouse, Pomposa had one of the richest libraries of its time. To be remembered, among the Personalities which made her illustrious, the Saint Guido of Strambiati and the Monk Guido from Pomposa (erroneously named Guido from Arezzo), inventor of the modern musical transcription.
Huge naturalistic interest has all the Delta of the Po River, at few kilometers from Ferrara, where bicycle or boat excursions can very easily be arranged. During the Summer it is always easily possible to reach well known bathing resorts on the Adriatic Sea (Porto Garibaldi, Lido delle Nazioni, Lido di Spina, Lido degli Scacchi....) or to go on excursion on the near Tosco-Emilian Appennines (near Bologna) , or the Euganei Hills (near Padua).

With some property rentals, the photos on the website may look better than the actual property itself. In the case of "Gloria's Apartment," just the opposite is the case: no photo can really do justice to the actual property. The apartment is located in a historically significant, beautifully restored 15th Century building--significant enough to be mentioned in the city's tourist brochure. The courtyard is stunning; we admired it anew each day. The apartment itself retains the historic high-beamed ceilings of the past, but is otherwise new and modern. The unit is spacious, with a large living area and a good-sized master bedroom. The kitchen area is sleek and modern. You could easily cook and eat full meals there, though we generally preferred to sample the excellent local cuisine in town. The bathroom has modern, functional plumbing fixtures and a very convenient washing machine. The computer in the small bedroom, with dial-up internet, was handy for us as we do not travel with our own computer. The air conditioning functioned well, and was much appreciated since it was quite warm during our stay. Everything in the apartment was very clean and we wanted for nothing. Another bonus: the apartment is very quiet, yet its location is central and convenient. Our landlord, Luigi, couldn't have been nicer. He lent us a cellphone since we did not have one, and he made it clear that we were welcome to ask for whatever we needed. He even drove us to the train station when it was time for us to leave. As for Ferrara, we had been there before for a few days and specifically chose it as a good place to hunker down and spend three weeks. The city is interesting, with a wealth of Medieval and Renaissance buildings (including an impressive castle), monuments and streets. There is excellent art to be seen in the city as well. We don't bicycle, as so many of the residents do, but did enjoy long walks on the old city walls. Because this is a university town, the place is vibrant and has a lively atmosphere in the evenings. There are a number of good restaurants. We particularly enjoyed Ca d'Frara, Il Cuccho and the Al Brindisi wine bar (frequented by Copernicus in his day). Overall, we had the good fortune of finding wonderful accommodation in an interesting yet comfortable city.

If you are visiting Ferrara, this is the place to be. Absolutely central. Absolutely quiet. Has the air of a medieval courtyard, yet has all conveniences of a modern spacious apartment. A joy to come home to after a busy day. Well equipped. Quiet heating/AC system. Beautiful entrance. Like an oasis. Ferrara itself is a joy to visit. Everything is close. Friendly patient people. Lots of style. Not overun by tourists. Great food and a relaxing air. Close enough to Florence, Venice and Bologna for day visits. Regular trains. Make sure you bicycle around Ferrara to get the correct feel of the place. In all the apartment and Ferrara were a perfect combination for us. The host Luigi is gracious and forthcoming and a perfect host. All in all an excellent experience.

We just finished a six day stay in this lovely apartment. It was delightful. The location is excellent. The surroundings are beautiful. The apartment is private, clean and cool (which in the summer is great). We noticed the courtyard and building getting photographed by other tourists while we were living there. It is an amazing opportunity to stay in a historically significant building with all the amenities one needs. Luigi was gracious. He picked us up at the train station and did not bat an eye when a communication mix up had him waiting for us for an hour. A wonderful host and a gentleman. Do not hesitate to rent this apartment.
Owner response:It was nice, and we are grateful for the review, We do all that we can in order to satisfy the Guests.

We thought Gloria's apartment was a lovely apartment. It was clean, well maintained and had everything we needed for our stay in Ferrara. The setting was amazing and it was so close to the town centre. I particularly loved having the chance to use the bikes and cycle around the city walls. The owner, Luigi was lovely and really helpful. There were also lots of guidebooks available in the apartment which were really useful. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the apartment to anyone for a holiday.

My husband and I stayed in this lovely apartment from June 5th to June 12, 2010. My husband and I have rented over 10 different properties in Italy and this was one of our best experiences. The apartment is exactly as described if not better. The location is fantastic, a beautiful, serene setting that is easy walking distance to all of the major sites in Ferrara. As nice as the apartment is the owner Luigi is even more fantastic. A wonderful source of information and a delightful human being. I recommend the property without hesitation!

We recently stayed at Gloria's apartment because of a work related project in Ferrara. It is in the center and when you step out into the street, you can see the Castello--incredible. We had unexpected snow (in March!) but were very snug and cozy in the apartment which, as advertised, had good central heat, stove, oven, microwave--even dishwasher! There was a ReadyMarket, only five minutes walk away with all the basic staples. Senior Luigi, the 'padrone' was very nice to us and even gave us a ride from and back to the station.

My husband and I have just finished a 3 week stay at Gloria's apartment. The apartment has hardwood throughout and high ceilings with wood beams and exposed brick. The apartment and Ferrara were perect for a lengthy stay. The apartment is new and completely renovated, located in a 14th century building with courtyard and fountain. Markets, most of the historical sites and many charming restaurants are minutes away. Ferrara was the perfect place from which to do day trips, and had many charms of its own. The train station is a 7 minute bus ride away and is well connected to many towns of interest. As charming as the apartment was, the nicest thing about Gloria's apartment was the owners. They were helpful in every way, and we quickly began to think of them as friends rather than the people we were renting from.

Gloria's apartment, located in the historic centre of Ferrara, is a delightful place to stay. It is very central, close to the Castello Estense and 3 minutes walk to the Duomo and Palazzo Diamante. Other attractions, such as the Palazzo Schifanoia, Casa Romei, Palazzo Marfisa d'Este, and the large variety of churches, and other museums, are in easy walking distance. Located in a old hospital originally, the apartment is accessed through a tranquil and beautiful cloister, and reached by stairs or elevator, on the first floor. A large sitting /dining room, and kitchen, with extremely generous collection of cooking utensils (includes dishwasher, fridge, freezer) leads to a corridor, off which are a large bathroom, and 2 bedrooms. The storage space is plentiful, computer and internet access is provided, together with TV, DVD player and a small assortment of films for viewing. We were met promptly by our very pleasant host and escorted to the apartment, which was clean and beautifully maintained. We did have a problem with hot water supply, and when this became too uncomfortable to continue with, our host responded immediately by bringing the appropriate workman to the apartment, despite this being the Sunday before Christmas Eve. Driving in Ferrara is not necessary -the city centre is small and utterly exquisite. Everything is within walking distance, and 2 bicycles are also provided for those interested. We left the car in a garage provided free of charge, and retrieved it at the end of the stay. As a party of 4 plus dog, the bikes were not required, but would be extremely useful for a couple -bicycles are the main mode of transport in the city centre. We have stayed in over 35 different rental facilities over the last 20 years, and would rate this extremely highly. We also found that contacting the owner prior to our visit was easy, and we were supplied with a large amount of information regarding location and amenities, together with information regarding activities, restaurants, and attractions, all of which was concise and accurate. We plan to visit Ferrara again in the next few months, and will certainly arrange to stay at Gloria's apartment again. My only reluctance in rating this so highly and publicly, is that when we rebook, we may well find that it is too popular for us to return.
