Morning Visitors
Location: Coupeville, Whidbey Island, Northwest & Islands, Washington State, USA (Coupeville is Approximately 45 Miles North of Seattle) View Map
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 2.25 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Keywords: Beachfront Home
Our beach home is located adjacent to the Ebey's Landing National Historic Reserve on the west side of Whidbey Island. The beach is one of only a few Washington State private beaches along the Keystone Spit. Just West down the spit is Old Fort Casey State Park and the landing for the Port Townsend Ferry. A short walk or bike ride to the ferry connects us to the wonders of the little city of Port Townsend, with its shops, restaurants and beach activities.
Although in such a seemingly natural setting, our home is a mere 5 miles from the historic town of Coupeville, with its grocery store, restaurants, shops, service station, banks and Whidbey General Hospital. This quiet waterfront farming community, at the heart of Ebey's Historical Reserve, still reflects the character of a frontier seaport when Puget Sound was being settled.
Throughout the Reserve, from the shoreline of Penn Cove to the beach and bluff at Ebey's Landing, you'll share space with farmers and bald eagles, gray whales and bicyclists, sea otters and kayakers. Depending on your time-frame, activities as diverse as the Arts & Crafts Festival, Penn Cove Mussel Festival, Concerts on the Cove and many other community events will entertain and enlighten you throughout the year.
Your time on the beach will be enhanced by the feeling that you are living on a beautiful, fully equipped floating home. You will be so near to the water that the only sounds at night are those of the waves lapping at the shoreline. You’ll wake to the view of ships leaving Puget Sound, porpoise and seals playing in the waves and bald eagles searching for their morning breakfast from the sea.
On the front side of the home is a natural wildlife preserve, home to any number of birds, deer, fox and endless animal life. You will see that Bald Eagles are not extinct!
The home is garnished with nearly everything that you could need. Bring your food and your beach toys and bikes and you’ll be set. The living area of the home is that of a great room style, with living room, dining room and Kitchen openly adjacent to one another. They all open to a 575 sq. ft. enclosed deck and a 644 sq. ft. patio.....that’s a lot of outside! There is an enclosed fire pit to roast those marshmallows and wienies just off the patio on the beach……you won’t need firewood!
The master bedroom/ bathroom opens to the water and the incomparable view of the Olympic Mountains and the Puget Sound shipping lanes. Watch the cruise ships leave for Alaska every Saturday and Sunday evening while enjoying a glass of wine from the warmth of the master bath soaking tub.
The second and third bedrooms have a queen and two single beds respectively. They share a compartmented full bath. There are full extra large laundry facilities and an outdoor shower to accommodate even the wildest day scouring the beach and the trails of the preserve.
The front yard is fully landscaped and enclosed for privacy……a perfect place to read in the afternoon sun or just roll around in the grass. Just outside the walled front yard the eagles stand atop the telephone poles to get a better view of the entire Preserve area....they are the kings of that domain.
Sunset on the beach is a special time. The transition from dusk to night can be carried in by the forces of nature in the winds or the solitude of glass like water kissing the beach…..you won’t know until it happens. On clear summer evenings the Olympic Mountains are drenched in the radiant colors that only sunset can deliver…….mornings have their own distinct pallet of colors.
Outdoor activities will surround you while on your visit; salmon fishing and crabbing, kayaking and world class diving are right at your backdoor. The public boat launch is next to the ferry terminal only a mile+ away and the fun of exploring Old Fort Casey is day day trip in itself.
Ebey’s Preserve is full of trails and treasures to keep just about anyone captivated and exhausted. The old Sunnyside Cemetery on the edge of the Preserve dates from the late 1840’s and holds the stories of how Whidbey and most of the Puget Sound region became settled. Whidbey Island is the home of Oak Harbor Naval Air Station and to the south is the Bangor Submarine Base, so aircraft, ships, subs, and parachutists make their appearances on a regular basis. There is so much to do on Whidbey that you won’t have the time to even think about video games, telephones and computers......this is life we have here!
I may sound a bit enthusiastic......that’s why I live here.
Come, slip into this type of living for a while; you may not want to leave.

- View/Location
- Waterfront, not Lake/Oceanfront. Ask for details : The home is located on Admirals Cove beach. The beach is the product of ancient glaciers that pushed the Keystone Spit into place. It is composed entirely of small clean gravel. The spit was created from driftwood being blown up Puget Sound into the face of the glacier and wave action depositing gravel against the driftwood. So we have a natural driftwood barrier between the water and the homes. It presents no problem for easy beach access, but is quite a site!
- Water View : The view from the home is magnificent! Facing due south, it has a full panorama of the Olympic Mountains beyond the expanse of Admiralty Inlet. Being on the west side of the island affords the full view of the shipping lanes in and out of Puget Sound and all ports of call. Map & Owner's Profile
This Home is Really on the Beach!!
Year Purchased: 1995
Why the Owner Chose Coupeville
I built this home on this beach because of the view and the wonderful access. My children grew up on the beaches of Whidbey. It was a wonderful place for them to explore and have all that nature had to offer at their backdoor. As they got older we moved to the mainland for the schools, college and my business. For years, we could only enjoy the island on the weekends.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Now I have the shear pleasure of full time residence again on this magnificent island. It affords me a lifestyle of fishing in my back yard, golf in the mornings, Kayaking in the evenings; and never dealing with the traffic and congestion of the big city. I love it here!
A turn of the century (1900) Army fort, complete with cannons, embattlements and hidden outlooks to the sea. Great Fun!
World famous Penn Cove crustaceans are grown here. Tours are available to see how they grow.
Just a short ferry ride to outdoor fun, food and shopping. A great day trip!
This entire area, behind the Keystone Spit is the preserve.
Whidbey Islands largest city and the home of Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.
For those who would like to play a little golf.....You have access to my Country Club.
Owner's Map of Coupeville
My family has owned property on Whidbey Island since the mid 1950's. The idea that we could be so close to a large metropolitan city the size of Seattle and only minutes away from the peace and tranquility that Whidbey Island affords is a gift not many regions can attest to.

The first thing my husband said when we walked in the property was " the photo's don't do this place justice". He was right! The views of the bay are incredible. We spent a lot of our time outside soaking in the views and simply relaxing! Coupeville is a great place to spend the day as is Port Townsend, just a ferry ride away. It was a very peaceful, pleasant week for us and Jack was so accomodating making sure we were taken care of. Beautiful home, Beautiful property, Beautiful memories! Would highly recommend.

If you want a relaxing home, please come here for your next vacation. View was beautiful, water, cruise ships, mountains & ferry, we had it all. Beach was a little rocky for me, but my daughters loved it. Patio was as shown in pictures and fenced area was great for privacy. Can't think of anything we would have wanted that wasn't provided in this beautiful home. Jack was extremely helpful and made sure our arrival was without a hitch. Would recommend this house to all that want an unforgettable trip. Liz, Karen & Trish

We just returned from our stay in Coupeville and was very pleased with the property. Very nice enterior, very comfortable beds and living room furniture. Tv's in all bedrooms, nice sterio and DVR and small library of videos(variety of selections). The house is well stocked with everything you need, just bring food. The pictures provided for the property were very representitive of the property. We would recommend the property to anyone! Our grandchildren really enjoyed investigating the driftwood on the beach and the marsh mellows at night around the firepit. Of course the water is cold. The owner was very helpful with information about the area, especially about the Navy fighter planes that visited us a couple of nights. About 2 miles north of the property is a landing field that is marked off like a carrier deck and the pilots do some practice touch and go landings when their ship is ready for deployment. We saw one of our carriers going out to sea the night we arrived. Watch for cruise ships on the weekends. The ferry to Port Townsend is just a couple of miles from the house and it is an easy walk around town.

This a beautiful spot, we couldn't have asked for more. Our hosts were very accommodating and helpful, the weather was perfect and the scenery, as always, breathtaking! We had a tough time prying the kids away.. You will feel instantly at home.

The beach house was incredible. You immediately feel at home. It was so relaxing and peaceful. The view is stunning. The entire area is just beautiful. We were blessed with perfect sunny weather and took full advantage. We especially enjoyed watching the cruise ships sailing on their way to Alaska, sitting around the fire pit in the evening and drinking our coffee out on the patio in the morning in the company of birds, waterfowl and even a seal. The beach house kitchen is well equipped and there is a view of the beach from nearly every room. We explored Coupeville and found it to be very charming. Our stay was too short and I plan to return very soon.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the beach house in January! There is nothing like the beach in winter. The house was beautiful! Much more than I was expecting. The perfect balance of beauty and comfort and the master bath and shower are out of this world. Waking up literally on the beach is amazing. We enjoyed the area a lot too. Spent lots of time poking around the old forts, and of course beachcombing. The house is set up perfectly for privacy, though it was very quite this time of year. We also loved the wildlife preserve across the street and I spent many an afternoon preparing a meal in the spacious kitchen watching all the activity from the birds, eagles and deer. So thank you Jack for allowing us to spend a perfect 30th anniversary at your beach house, we were so comfortable that is felt like our house for a week! Hope to get back again soon, though we now live quite a distance away.

We spent Christmas week at The Beach House visiting our son who is in the Navy stationed at NAS Whidbey Island. It was fantastic. As they say "Location, Location, Location" is what makes great real estate. The location is truly on the waterfront. Even though the weather was cloudy and rainy we were able to enjoy a great Christmas morning walk on the beach and saw an eagle roosting on the power pole just like the picture. The house was well equipped as I did lots of home cooking and very clean. The views from the master bedroom were spectular as was the living room. We enjoyed the wood pellet fireplace and were toasty warm. We saw and experienced quite a bit of the island and can hardly wait to visit again in the summertime to experience the island in another season. We will of course stay at The Beach House. Jack was a great host, even supplied wine upon our arrival. Thanks we had a great week.
Owner response:Thank You, Maria....... I hope you consider The Beach House your 'Home away from Home' when you come to visit your son......Jack

We had a wonderful time, even in the rain! The house is beautiful with many ammentities, well maintained and had numerous windows. The mattresses were firm and extremely comfortable to sleep on. The beach IS the backyard, full of driftwood and ferry dock, a mere two miles away! Saw many scuba divers there, so I'm sure it's equally as pretty under water. The telescope provided, allowed views of Blue Heron and Seagulls surfing on driftwood! Additionally, a b-bque and kayak were provided. The water was so clear that swimming was in order, even in late September (I'm a native and make no claims to sanity, when it comes to swimming...). The fire pit is fantastic...it's big, allowed for stunning views of the water and gorgeous sunsets, all while keeping warm! Jack was very hospitable and answered all my inquiries quickly. I would recommend bringing a bicycle, as there are flat roads, much to see and a tranquility you just don't experience in the city. Brace yourself....locals waved and said hello! I'll be back!
