Welcome to Thalassa Point, an approximately two acre gated waterfront property in the charming rural community of North Saanich, a suburb of Greater Victoria. Although the bustling Capital City is about 25 minutes away, and the quaint seaside town of "Sidney By The Sea", the BC Ferries Terminal and the Victoria International Airport are all a short 10 minute drive, the ambience of Thalassa Point is one of peace and tranquility.
We are located on the north west corner of the Saanich Peninsula, adjacent to beautiful Deep Cove and considered the "warm" side of the Peninsula. The property boasts 350 feet of low bank water frontage with south west to north east panoramic views and spectacular YEAR ROUND SUNSETS.
Although there are two executive homes on the property, and the owners periodically occupy one of them, privacy is enjoyed by both. The recently completely renovated 3,000 square foot home offers amazing views from most rooms. There are 3 ensuite bedrooms, two with king size beds, and one with a queen size, plus an additional half bath. The master ensuite bathroom is a six piece, including a bidet, and shares the awesome views that most other rooms enjoy. All bedrooms are equipped with LCD TVs.
Hardwood floors, granite counters, and CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING for year round comfort are additional features of the home. There is a wood burning fireplace in the living room with plenty of seasoned wood available for those cozy winter evenings, as well as a gas fireplace in the family room adjacent to the kitchen. The media room/den has a wood stove and is equipped with a 50" Panasonic Plasma TV and DVD player with full surround sound. Adjacent to the media room is a separate office area complete with a computer and an 'all in one' printer/copier/scanner and fax.
There is a large sun drenched deck with dining table for those warm summer evenings. The property is heavily treed and the feeling one has is of living in a peaceful forest setting on the ocean's edge. Eagles and deer abound as well as a myriad of marine life (including occasional sightings of Orcas...Killer Whales) and the adjacent waters are a favorite fishing ground for locals and tourists alike.
There are a wealth of activities in close proximity to Thalassa Point as well as a winery and world class restaurant within easy walking distance. The BC Ferries Terminal is minutes away for those who might choose to explore any of the neighboring Gulf Islands or venture to the Mainland to discover the vibrant city of Vancouver. Note, as of October 2010,The Gulf Islands have been named the seventh top rated Coastal destination in the world by National Geographic Traveler...and Thalassa Point is in the same neighborhood. Even world famous 'The Butchart Gardens' is a leisurely 20 minute journey down country roads. All this and much more are sure to make your stay at Thalassa Point a memorable one!
We ask that you please check our availability calendar and rental rates before contacting us and be aware of our policies regarding smoking and pets .... no smoking in the home or on the property and no pets in the home or on the property. Also please note, due to the topography of Thalassa Point, we are reluctant to rent to guests with pre teenage children. Please refer to 'Suitability' below.

Why the Owner Chose Victoria
Although the Saanich Peninsula has many waterfront properties, not all have the unique ambience of Thalassa Point. The east side of the Peninsula is affected in the summertime by cooling winds that blow in from the open ocean through Juan de Fuca Strait and up Haro Strait...and of course there are no sunsets to enjoy. The north side tends to be dark. Thalassa Point enjoys summer warmth and plenty of light, and of course those amazing sunsets. All this and more attracted us to this unique location. However the property came with two homes and hence we now find ourselves in the unanticipated position of owning a vacation rental.
The Unique Benefits at this Estate
What I think we both most enjoy about Thalassa Point is the feeling of serenity in this most beautiful place. The property is heavily treed with tall stately Firs and majestic Arbutus (Madronas) and is narrow at the road and wide at the oceanfront (pie shaped). The home is accessed by a 300+ foot driveway and the feeling is that of being in the middle of the forest with awesome ocean and mountain views all around. The sounds and smells are only of the ocean and the forest. Although the neighborhood is quite rural, most anything one would ever need can be found in the quaint village of 'Sidney by the Sea' some 10 minutes away. However, if one is in need of a big city 'fix', there is none more beautiful than Victoria with its charming English flavor...and its an enjoyable 25 minutes or so away.
BC Ferries has frequent daily service to Salt Spring, Pender, and Mayne Islands as well as service to the mainland (Vancouver)
Great little waterfront town on the east side of the Peninsula. Most all your shopping needs can be met here
Owner's Map of Victoria
I have spent most of my adult working life in West Vancouver (a suburb of Vancouver, BC's largest city) and enjoy the 'West Coast lifestyle' immensely. We have owned boats, large ones and small ones, for many years and have taken many cruises through the Gulf and San Juan Islands. This area represents some of the best pleasure boating on the Continent. It was because of these adventures that we found and fell in love with the Saanich Peninsula. Although we still keep a Townhome in West Vancouver, we find ourselves drawn more and more to our Island property.

The home at Thalassa point is beautifully decorated, completely furnished with everything you could ever need, and is located in one of the most spectacularly scenic locations I have ever been. Located in the countryside of North Saanich, you are surrounded by farms, vineyards, and forests. Residing on Lands End you are on the northern tip of the peninsula with sweeping views of the water. We enjoyed watching the boats and marine life and listening to the waves lap the shore, as we slept with the windows open at night. The home is serene, private, secluded, and inspirational. We love to cook and found everything we needed to create fabulous meals during our stay. Cocktails on the deck during sunset are not to be missed. Shopping and dining are conveniently located 10 minutes away in Sidney and downtown Victoria is an easy 25 minutes south of the house. We just came back from a remarkable, soothing, relaxing vacation and look forward to our next visit to Thalassa Point. If you are looking to escape from the daily grind with all the convenience and luxurious comfort you could hope to find, Thalassa Point is the place to go!

The only thing that could improve this house is if I owned it myself (and then I wouldn't rent it.)

My wife and myself, our two grown children and their spouses all shared this magnificent house. As Robert showed us around the house, I had to keep raising my lower jaw, since it repeatedly dropped in amazement. We've rented houses before that we thought were wonderful, but nothing has compared to this: spacious rooms, luxurious appointments, gorgeous landscaping and a view overlooking the water and mountains that is beautiful and inspiring. It seems that great care and thought have gone into almost every aspect of the house. As an example, the deck is walled by tempered glass panels, not wood, so the view of the water and mountains is unimpeded. There are lots of electronics (like a gigantic plasma TV, stereo systems, excellent WiFi.) It's just a few minutes drive into Sidney (big enough for 3 supermarkets) for supplies and Victoria is less than a half hour away, but you won't want to leave the house! Why bother? (Since I like to cook and the kitchen is equipped with top-of-the-line appliances, etc., we ate in six of our seven nights. Even the gas grill was the best I've ever used.) So.... If you are looking for a quiet, wonderful place to spend a week (or more or less) it's hard to imagine doing better than this. The one downside is that it will spoil you for any other rental. (I'm reluctant to write this review. It can only increase the competition for rental in the future.)

We had the privilege of staying at Thalassa Point twice this year -- the first time for about 6 1/2 weeks and the second time for just over a week. In each case, it was a delightful experience and we highly recommend it. The setting is both stunning and private, the accommodation and its appointments are exceptional, and the hosts are attentive without being intrusive. It is the most beautiful and relaxing place we have visited in the more than three decades of travel. Peter Rudin & Dianne Clark Calgary, Alberta

From the moment we drove through the gates of Thalassa Point we knew we had found something special.A secluded location on the water with outstanding views across the Salich sea, a beautiful, superbly appointed house within a delightful garden setting and most helpful owners nearby, combined to give us the best experience of our holidays. We have rented houses in many locations in Europe, UK and North America and Thalassa Point was simply the most relaxing and enjoyable of all.We will definately be looking to return as our stay was all too short this time

From the moment we drove down the elegant drive to the house, we were amazed. We were greeted by Robert and shown the house, where our jaws hit the floor. The home was beautifully appointed and the views are drop dead gorgeous. This has been, by far, our best experience with a vacation rental and we have done many. The location is private and quiet and in one of the best neighborhoods on the peninsula. We were graciously taken care of yet given our privacy to relax. There are many things to do in the area and the location is a great jumping off point to hop a ferry to surrounding islands and points of interest. One can also lounge on the deck or by the fire and soak in the views and serenity of this amazing home. Thank you Robert and Mark for an incredible stay and know we will be happy to return again and again.

Thalassa Point was an excellent property, in which we found it so easy to unwind and relax. The property was spotlessly clean and very well fitted out from the home media room to the cook's kitchen. The views over the water were amazing, particularly the sunsets and seals in the evenings. The owners were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble as they clearly wanted us to enjoy our stay. We will be back! Martin & Jules

We stayed here for a week in the middle of August. The welcome was warm and the briefing thorough with any other questions being answered during the week. The house is, if anything, better than the description provided; we wanted for nothing in terms of facilities and equipment. The views across the bay were constantly changing and the sunsets superb every night. From the house we saw at different times seals, otters, deer, rabbits and a pair of eagles. Apart from enjoying the house we visited Sidney-by-the-Sea (a 10 minute drive), Victoria, Sooke, and Cowichen during our week there. We visited the Blue Moon restaurant, which was ideal for a first dinner when getting over jet-lag, and several others in Sidney and Victoria. If you wish to explore Victoria and Vancouver Island from a luxurious base then we can thoroughly recommend Thalassa Point.

Hello Robert - I was going to send you a note as soon as I caught up from my week vacation to let you know what a wonderful place you have created. We loved the house, the property, and the location! We treated the house as we would our own, probably even a bit more conscientious since it was so immaculate. We used the garage as our entrance and left our shoes there and it worked out great. Greg and I stayed downstairs and Blair and Jacki in the upstairs master. It gave us a nice separation for personal space. The house was very comfortable and we all loved sitting in the living room with a fire in the evenings or looking out the window with a cup of coffee in the morning. Your grounds are just beautiful. We saw bald eagle, seal, an otter (on the lower grass) and two fawns chasing each other around the yard. We walked up the road, hiked in Horth Park, walked the sea walk in Sidney, drove to Sooke and walked out Whiffen Spit, drove up the coast as far as Duncan meandering through the Cowiche & Maple Bay and toured the BC Royal Museum. We stayed at the house most of Sunday, just to enjoy it, then went to dinner at the Chalet Sunday night where we had a nice conversation with your neighbors the Drakes (introduced to us by our hostess who we had a nice conversation with as well). We hated leaving on Monday - we felt at home immediately and all of your personal touches gave it that feeling - thank you for sharing and hopefully we will see you again in the future - Beverly

We spent one month at Thalassa Point and wished it could have been one year. From the moment you enter this stunning home set amidst meticulously landscaped grounds you are welcomed by the tasteful furnishings and designer decor, plus an extensively equipped kitchen, and abundant household supplies thoughtfully supplied by the owners. And THEN there is the jaw-dropping ocean and mountain view which is like walking into an IMAX Theatre. This truly is an outstanding Holiday Home.
