Built into the mediaeval walls of the charming village of Porano, Casa Bernardina overlooks Orvieto and the Umbrian countryside, and is a twelve minute drive past fantastic vistas to Orvieto. The Duomo of Orvieto can be seen across the valley from the terrace as you enjoy the ambiance and tranquility of village life.
There is a spacious living area with high chestnut beamed ceilings and terracotta floor and fireplace. Outside the entry door the expansive terrace is lovely for dining with the moon, tile rooftops, ancient tufo walls, hills and valleys as background. The kitchen/ living area creates a comfortable community space for preparing meals, and is fully equipped with travertine marble countertops and a view of the distant Duomo! The bedroom leads to a large balcony with romantic views of village rooftops and the countryside. The apartment is 55 m sq (600 sq feet).
A few minutes walk in Porano to a pastry bakery, café bars, a well known macelleria featuring local specialties, Graziella’s alimentarie, the Slow Food restaurant Il Boccone Pret, and Villa Paolina where feasts and festivals are held.
Parking is easy in nearby Piazza Garibaldi.

NEIGHBORING ORVIETO is famed in all of Europe for its enchanting setting. Built atop the dramatic walls of a volcanic plateau, the town retains a mediaeval atmosphere, with beautifully preserved gothic churches and towers, and the famous gothic Duomo d’Orvieto. Among the meandering alleyways you will find trattorias, ristorantes, coffee bars, enotecas, markets, and shops, and Orvieto’s famous ceramic artisans. Throughout the year there are music, dance, and medieval folklore festivals in the city and theatre events and classical concerts featured at Teatro Comunale Mancinelli and the ancient churches of Orvieto. Orvieto is famous for its wine and the ‘slow' lifestyle that the people who live in the villages and surrounding valleys are still able to live. Orvieto belongs to the network of Italian slow towns; a Slow Food Festival is popular in the autumn, while traditional festivals are held throughout the seasons.
Porano is located midway between Rome and Florence. Rome is an hour by train from the Orvieto train station, and Rome, Florence, Assisi, Siena, Spoleto, Cittavecchia, Lake Bolsena, Montepulciano, San Gimignano, and Perugia are easy daytrips. There is a local bus service from Piazza Garibaldi to the train station and Orvieto.
