My wife and I were looking for a cabin to stay in for a few days to get away from our busy work schedules in Texas. This place has it all, great views, great drive to cabin, warm fireplace! The kitchen was fun to cook in especially the 100 year old stove that probably works better than any modern day stove. Scott the owner met us and took us up to the cabin and showed us around the place. He is great guy and explained everything we needed to know about the cabin and surrounding area. If we needed anything he would always answer the phone. The cabin has so many great features and history as well. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get away from it all and relax! Its also close to Idaho Springs so if you need to run to town and grab something its not a far drive. Thanks again for a great vacation! My wife and I will always remember this place! Jason and Krysta

Owner response: We really loved having Jason and Krysta stay at our house. We are always so delighted when folks have a great time at our place. Thanks Jason and Krysta

Five of us came to play golf in Colorado, but wanted to stay out of the city. Well, this cabin we stayed at was about as secluded as we have ever been. For the photographer in the group it was high heaven. He took around 2000 photos. For my son who had never been in the mountains, well let's just say I had never seen him smile so much, For the retired Kansas Gas man, the solar power setup fascinated him. We ate at two places in Idaho Springs at the bottom of the mountain, Tommyknocker brewery where the food was amazingly good! The green chili soup was to die for. We ate breakfast at Jiggie;s, the guy who runs it has a very rye sense of humor that we loved. And he could take it as well as give it. I had their breakfast burrito with spicy tomatilla sauce. If you like spicy food, it was excellent. The biscuits and gravy got rave reviews also. We also went over to Central City and Black Hawk to the casinos. Black hawk has all the big name casinos, but two of the men in our group found an excellent $2 poker game at the Reserve casino in Central city. They played for 5 hours with $100. One tip on eating while there, only the casino's have food. Couldn't find a restaurant anywhere else. For you golfers, we played Fossiil Trace in Golden, Co. One of the best layouts and conditioned courses we have played. The went up to the Winter Park ski resort area to play Pole Creek golf course. The layout and maintenance was superb. One tee box is at 8812 elevation. As far as the road up to the cabin goes, it rained our second night there and had no problem traversing the road. But a SUV or four wheel drive will make the drive easy for those concerned. All in all, if you want a different experience than the norm, you can find no better than this.

Owner response: Seclusion 6 miles from town. Thats what awaits you at the White Horse Cabin! It's a perfect spot to rest and relax and be close to whats best in the Rockies! Thanks Larry we are very glad you guys had great time! Scott Schaefer White Horse Cabin.

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful log home! It's well furnished and comfortable. Scott showed us around and made us feel at home, and we loved being able to bring our dog and pet birds with us. We enjoyed some hikes, a gold mine tour and a visit to ths hot springs in Idaho Springs. The kids stayed out on the upper deck one night to see the meteorite shower. Can only think of 2 things to mention. The dirt road up to the property is pretty rough, so we weren't sure our second car without 4-wheel drive would make it, but it did. Window coverings on the bedroom windows would be helpful since bright sun comes in very early this time of year. I would recommend this home for families looking to enjoy some quiet time in the mountains.

Owner response: We sure enjoyed having Lorraine and her family. We are certainly glad they had a good time. It shows us and everyone that reads these reviews that when someone has an exceptional good time, they feel compelled to write us a review. We sure appreciate it! The road up to the house can get rough sometimes between grading if we have torential rains. I can even get there in my Audi TT ! Scott Schaefer White Horse Cabin.

Cabin pictures and description are exactly right on. Scott was excellent to work with, the cabin was clean and stocked. Upon arrival, Scott's step son, gave us a little tour, and told us about the history of the cabin (which is a wonderful little story). The love and care of this cabin is evident. Very close to all the little towns and sights, which I highly recommend going to visit (one of our favorites was Guanella Pass - make the whole drive from Georgetown to Grant - and hiking up St. Mary's Glacier). After sightseeing all day, we would come back to the cabin, start a fire in the fireplace, cook our meals, and then relax and play pool. I would definitely recommend this cabin. It gave the feeling of deep woods camping, but with the comforts of home. There are beautiful views, and trails right on the property, which we explored on. This is not your basic tourist destination (we loved that fact!!), it felt like we were visiting old friends as we met people along the way, and the mountain community was welcoming and a very different way of life. Scott (and family) thank you immensely for sharing your wonderful cabin, and being such gracious and attentive hosts. We have travelled much, and stayed at plenty, and this was one of the cleanest, well stocked homes, and cannot say enough of how accessible Scott was when we had questions. Many thanks!!

My husband and I rented the white horse cabin for a weekend getaway in April. We live in the Denver area and it was quick and easy drive to get to the cabin in an hour on a Friday afternoon. We loved the seclusion of the cabin and the fact that it was pet friendly upon approval from the owner. Our dogs loved having the open space to run around in. You are in close proximity to Idaho Springs and everything it has to offer (mine tours, restaurants, brewery, and shopping). There are plenty of trails to explore on the property which were a little difficult for us to reach since everything still had deep snow cover in early April. We loved sitting by the wood burning fire place and cooking on the antique cook stove in the kitchen. Everything was provided for us in the kitchen so we had no trouble cooking our meals. We loved ordering pizza from the Brooklyn Mining Pizza Company and the fact that they delivered to the house. Overall the setting is perfect, there is plenty to do, and the house has everything you need to accomodate multiple people. Scott, the owner, was very each to work with and made the trip very enjoyable by meeting us and giving a tour of the house when we got there. One thing that I recommend is that if you are going anytime other than summer you should probably have a 4WD or AWD vehicle as the road is a little tricky but turned out to also be a lot of fun.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the top of the mountain. Whitehorse Lodge is so unique and was a perfect choice for a relaxing and most memorable Christmas Holiday for our family. We couldn't have enjoyed it more. The pool table and darts provided great entertainment along the perfect winter setting and the most amazing sunrises I have ever seen. Good location, close to Ski areas and the Denver Area. Idaho Springs is neat little town. I definitely recommend AWD vehicle for a winter stay. Scott was very easy to work with and always reachable if we needed anything. Thanks for sharing your lovely Cabin.
