Why the Owner Chose Franklin

We chose this location because of the mountain views, great weather, beautiful scenery, and friendly people.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

At times our cabin is literally "in the clouds". We have been able to take some great photos!

Owner's Map of Franklin

My Husband and I live in central Florida and were looking for a vacation home within a days drive. We wanted someplace with outdoor activities, seasonal changes and beautiful scenery. The mountains of Western North Carolina offer all of that. We feel so fortunate to have found this comfortable rustic cabin. It is the perfect place for a cozy relaxing getaway.

No cleaning charge!

I'll be honest and say that the $50 or $60 dollars saved on cleaning charges is what made me choose this cabin over the others. My son and I took an 8 day road trip and we spent 2 days sluicing for gems at the Cherokee mine. We stayed at the cabin for 2 nights and it had all the amenities we needed and wanted. The cabin is very roomy and airy and the porch and carport were blessings when the thunderstorms and downpours hit. I had the pleasure to meet Kathie and she is a sweetheart to deal with. Everything was in good repair and clean when we arrived and I hope Kathie would say we left it the same way. I would gladly rent this cottage again. Kent and Matty PS. We each found a great gem!

Close to the Ruby Mine

The cabin was enjoyable very close to the ruby mines. I spend my birthday at the mine each year and this is a wonderful place to relax after a hot day in the sun. The porch is covered and screened and hearing the rain on the metal roof while having my birthday dinner was a plus. It is certainly an adventure getting up the mountain and also part of the fun. I would reccomend this cabin to anyone looking for a nice place to stay in the Franklin area.

An adventure in the Smokey Mountains

Guest: Tim (Deltona, Florida)
Date of Stay: 10/27/10 Review Submitted: 11/07/10

We started looking for somewhere to watch the leaves change since we haven't seen it in over a decade. Coming from Florida was a culture shock. One day I'm watching an Air Show in my boat off Daytona beach and the next day I'm nearly vertical trying to get up a gravel road on the side of a mountain a mile up the road from a Ruby Mine. I love this place. The town of Franklin is a cross between rustic and colonial with the Little Tennessee River quietly meandering through it on it's way through Cowee. I knew we were in for an adventure when we saw the "No Guns Allowed" sign on the senior center door. Must have been due to the election. We spent 4 days sight seeing, we went mining(we got a ruby, a blue sapphire, and 4 garnets down at the Cherokee Mine, took the train tour in the next town over, wined, dined and shopped. If you never lived above the cloud line, this is the place to go. It's perfect for 2 couples or a small family, it's dog friendly and if you're there at the right time of year you may find Kathy provided some seasonal decorations. If you're lucky you'll meet Paws, a huge Chocolate Lab from a cabin down below who thinks he's a puppy. He's also a mooche, which doesn't sit well with his owner. Don't feed him unless you want him waking you up for treats at 4 am in the morning. Watching Paws play with my min-pins was like Godzilla playing with Bambi but he was a lot of fun. I was going to try canoeing or white water rafting but after the rain it looked a little too cold to try without some sort of wet suit at my age. All the locals and especially Kathy were extremely helpful and accommodating. The senic views are the type you only see on the Discovery channel. The air is crisp and clean and if you drive around a bit you'll find out exactly why they call them the Smokey Mountains. I took a tour with my brother to take some pics to bring home on route 28. A mountain highway where you will not find 40 feet of straight road. We saw a perfect view of the clouds passing through the peaks. We pulled up the road about a hundred feet to be able to pull over. Passed some trees looked up and all the cloud had burned off in a matter of a few seconds. It's easy to see why people thought that spirits dwelled here. I give the whole experience an A+ if you've looking for a quiet mountain experience mixed with some local flavor. One warning. Observe the local speed limits, goats are sometimes on the mountain roadways.

Wonderful get away location

Guest: Nicole & Elijah (Rock Spring, GA)
Date of Stay: 07/02/10 Review Submitted: 08/18/10

My husband, my mother, myself and our dog took a vacation in July 2010 and stayed at Kathie and Bob's cabin in Franklin for 9 nights. We had the best time and their home is perfect for a couples get away or a small family get away. The screened in porch is amazing. The only thing missing is a couple of rocking chairs and Bob promised to have us 2 for when we return next year. Bob and Kathie were wonderful to rent from and we really enjoyed their rental home. During our trip we traveled over 1,400 miles in 9 days and we saw every nook and cranny within 100 miles of Franklin. We enjoyed the Ruby Mining, the Cherokee Rose Mine is literally at the bottom of the mountain where Bob and Kathie's cabin is located. Below is a list of the things we saw in 9 days to give you ideas about places to go and things to do. French Restaurant – Franklin, NC, Ruby Mines – Franklin, NC, Creamery – Otto, NC, Dillard House – Dillard, GA, Black Rock Mountain State Park – Mountain City, GA, Great Smoky Mountain Railway – Bryson City, NC, Carl Sandburg Home – Hendersonville, NC, Emerald Mining – Spruce Pine, NC, Pisgah National Forrest / Cradle of the Forresty - Brevard, NC, -- Scenic Drives -- Highlands, NC, Cashiers, NC, Sapphire, NC, Lake Toxaway, NC, Brevard, NC, Asheville, NC, Pisgah National Forrest / Cradle of the Forresty, Blue Ridge Parkway One small piece of advice -- Make sure you have an all wheel driver vehicle or a 4 wheel drive vehicle. The mountain that the cabin is on is kind of steep but well worth the drive up!

Great Cabin, Fair Price and Pet Friendly!!

Date of Stay: 06/26/10 Review Submitted: 07/02/10

This really is the perfect cabin for anyone gem mining. We went to the Cherokee Ruby Mine (which is literally just at the bottom of the mountain that the cabin is on) but the cabin is also really close to the Sheffield and Mason mine. The cabin was very clean and well maintained and the description the owners gave of the cabin is accurate. The screened in porch is great, especially if you bring your dog! We had a really good time and hope to stay here again.
