Just down the beach from Punta Viejo, the rainforest and ocean are at your doorstep. We are located on the southeastern side of Bastimentos Island, right in the heart of the National Park. The Zapitilla's are a 10 minute boat ride, and the rainforest is a short walk from our backyard. Although this is not a beachfront lot, it's still only footsteps away!

Beach and Jungle Eco Luxury!

Casa dos Amores is a luxury and truly ecologically friendly home with fine finishing’s and a small carbon footprint. It is exactly the way you would want to experience this relavtively untouched part of the world. It is located far from the tourist bustle of Bocas Town, but much closer to the spectacular outdoor activities that tourists come to the area for. Some of these things include snorkelling in three distinct and nearby environments (one for schools of fish, one for a unique Elkhorn coral, and one for multi-colored coral that could be the inspiration for a Dr. Seuss book). You can visit a sloth habitat and observe them very closely (as opposed to way up in the trees where they usually are). You can visit a local indigenous community, learn about their culture and from there take any number of hikes to see all sorts of flora and fauna. You can simply enjoy the pristine beach (and buy fresh caught fish to make ceviche like we did). And for sure hire Remedio from Crawl Cay to prepare a gourmet in home dinner for you (in fact we wish we had done this more often). If you are a bird admirer, there are all sorts of birds, not least of which is the orependula with its architectural nest. And after your full day, you can enjoy relaxing on the beautiful and massive porch, eat outdoors, swing on the hammock, read your books and tune out to the world (because there is absolutely no noise but for the birds) The homes owners will work with you to make sure you have all the proper comforts to enjoy your trip, that you are safely retrieved and make your onward connections, and to point out even more fun adventures (like zip lining and chocolate farm tours). Oh, and just maybe the dolphins may even bid your farewell on your way out!

Wanna Get Away -- This is a dream exodus from the rat race

I feel almost guilty writing this review five months after our stay considering how I still pine for the peace experienced while there. While we were only there 4 days/3 nights, it was incredibly memorable. For anyone going to La Loma Jungle Lodge, this is a fabulous close-by partner trip (20 mins) to garner some beach time with as much or as little activity as you choose to have. First, the easy parts: the home is nicer than the photos appear. The surroundings are more remote than you might imagine (which we loved), but you are very well taken care of. The care takers were frequently checking in without hovering, and were easily found when needed. The home's rainwater system generated enough water (good quality) for daily usage. While we were conscientious and conservative about our energy use, the solar battery system never dipped below 85% with four of us in the home (of course no one had a need to use a blow dryer!), using the radio (iPod), cooking, etc. Biggest Plus: if you enjoy being alone with your partner or friends, THIS IS THE PLACE. There are other homes nearby and while we did see other folks, we could be on the beach for HOURS with no other human interaction. Second, I enjoyed the fact that this home sat back a bit from the beach, just in case someone was walking along they weren't necessarily in your "front yard." Third, as mentioned, the care takers were incredible, lining up nearly everything we wanted -- even hunting hard for German Chocolate frosting for a birthday cake! Don't want to cook? They can find someone to do it for you for a reasonable fare. Want to head out into the ocean a bit? The day trip to the Zapatillas (a nearby 25-min boat ride to a national protected area of two islands) was incredible with snorkeling that surpassed some diving trips. I was equally thrilled upon finding that a 0.5 km paddle off of our beach also produced some pretty amazing snorkeling -- and bummed to have discovered this on our last day. My belief is that there are too many places to see to repeat even your good trips, however for the price & the peace, I'm likely going to beg my other half to return one day for another recharging of the personal batteries.
