Our beach house at Muriwai is perched on the edge of a cliff with uninterrupted views of the Tasman Sea stretching as far as the eye can see. Muriwai is a west coast surfing beach that goes for miles, perfect for swimming or surfing in the summer, or for long walks in the winter.
The house is a 15-minute walk through beautiful native bush to the beach or to Muriwai's famous gannet colony where birds nest and bring up their babies during the summer before they fly off to Australia.
Muriwai is a perfect vacation spot if you are looking for peace and quiet away from the rat race. It is 40 minutes by car from downtown Auckland, and 10 minutes from the nearest supermarket, but Muriwai itself only has one cafe and one tiny grocery store so it's a very restful, peaceful spot.
The house has a cook's kitchen, an open plan dining and living area, and for those who don't go in for waves, a heated swimming pool. The living area and master bedroom both have sensational views of the sea and the under floor heating ensures that even during the colder months, this small but modern, airy home is always toasty warm. In the summer, throw open the doors and it's cool in an instant.
Sit on the deck and watch the sun set every night of the week.
