This is a great apartment to stay in, it's bright and comfortable and in a great location. I looked at many apartments before choosing this one and it's definitely a bargain. The location is very central, there are many restaurants, bars, and shops within a couple of minutes walking distance. The bakery/coffee shop downstairs is very handy for breakfast and there is a 24 hour supermarket around the corner. The apartment itself is very comfortable with a large couch, 32" TV and lots of room to store your cases. Sheets and towels are also provided which is very handy. It's around the back of the building on the 3rd floor (or 4th floor if you're American or Icelandic). We had read about occasional noise in the previous reviews so it was with some trepidation that we watched one of the bars behind the apartment putting up a marquee one Friday morning, however it wasn't used at all on the Friday night. At 12.30am on Sunday morning the music started, but it wasn't loud and we were both asleep within a few minutes of it starting. The owner Siggi mentioned that occasionally this happens so it's really nothing to be of concern. We stayed for 4 nights and this was the only time we heard anything. We didn't even hear any other noises from other apartments in the building. All in all this is a great apartment and I would highly recommend it.Did you find this review helpful? Clean and comfortable with a perfect location in the heart of the city center. Despite the proximity of pubs and restaurants, there was only one night when we heard any noise, and in general the apartment was quiet. We had a rental car for exploring outside of Reykjavik, and it was easy to find metered parking on the street outside. If you don't have a car, it's just a short walk to many of the attractions and tourist offices. Best for two people, but could easily fit a third on the large sofa. Highly recommend.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful time staying at property 338885 in Reykjavik. The owner was absolutely wonderful. He stayed a bit to make sure that the TV/Internet was working properly and explained the use of the washer and dryer. The apartment was very nice and clean. It is extremely centrally located to the main shopping street, Harpa, 3 different markets, and the bars/clubs. I would definitely recommend this apartment to a friend/relative. Thanks you!Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Tara, it was great to meet you both, I hope you did see the northern lights while you were there. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Best regards, Siggi

We were very pleased with this apartment, and would definitely rent it again and recommend it to friends. This was our fourth visit to Reykjavik, so we knew more or less what we were looking for as far as location, and this did not disappoint. You really couldn't ask for a better home base for exploring Reykjavik. If you plan on walking mostly, you're very convenient to all the sites of interest in the main downtown part of the city. The city bus stop is right across the street. The tour company "Iceland Excursions" is on the corner. We also had no problems parking our rental car conveniently to the apartment. There's also a small grocery store less than a two minute walk away. The apartment is ideal for two. The kitchen was much more thoroughly equipped than what one finds in most rental apartments. The bed was not luxurious, but it was perfectly adequate, and I slept fine. I loved that it had a bath tub, and enjoyed taking baths every evening. We didn't use the washer and dryer, but it was great that it was there. The decor is very cheery and danish modern, which I think is pleasant. Everything was in perfect working order. All in all we were extremely happy with our choice. The only negative thing I would say is that there was a slight smell of cigarette smoke. I really only noticed it when I first walked into the apartment after being out all day. There's an air purifier in the apartment that was running the whole time, so I don't think there's any actual lingering smoke. It's a non-smoking apartment, so I don't know if someone cheated or what. I only mention it because I have a friend who is unbelievably sensitive and intolerant of even the slightest smell of cigarette and I know it would have bothered her. It didn't bother us at all, and wouldn't stop us from renting this place again and my husband and I are both non-smokers and don't like cigarette smoke at all. So don't be put off by this comment unless you or the person you're traveling with is a complete freak about cigarette smell. Anyway. Loved the place, loved Iceland. It was our best trip to Iceland so far. We're definitely going to come back and when we do I hope we can rent this apartment.Owner response: Hi I'm sorry if you smelled smoke, it seem like the ventilation in the building broke, because it's supposed to suck the all smell out, but instead smell from other apartments has been leaking into mine. That is due to a fuse went out, so the motor stopped without no one in the building noticing. Smoke smell is not stationary in the apartment, it was due to the motor in the ventilation stopped. Thank you for staying, best regards Siggi

We stayed for 4 nights at this apartment and you can't beat the location. It's within walking distance of many of the sights in Reykjavik, our stay was over a weekend and we had no problems with the noise issue some other reviewers complained about experiencing. The satellite tv and Netflix were great... The elevator was out of order but Siggi helped us carry our luggage up the 4 flights of stairs, so no big deal. A couple of things were not as advertised, we had no complimentary juice or soft drinks, we were told free parking was 5 minutes away and being in the city center, we couldn't find any, not a real problem, it only cost us a few dollars a day to park & display, so if you have a car, be prepared for this. The overall cleanliness was good, but the toilet needed cleaning on our arrival and there wasn't enough toilet paper, again not a huge thing. As far as the 24 hr supermarket, it's the 10/11, comparable to a 7/11 in the states, not great, pick up your groceries at a Bonus before you get there, we're sure glad we did. Overall, highly recommended... thanks SiggiRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hi Cris, I'm sorry you could not find the free parking, but the area I told you about used to be free of charge, but recently it was changed into low price area, which means you can park for one week for about 10 USD. I just didn't know they had changed that. Now it takes about 7 minutes to walk to the free parking area. Regarding the complimentary drinks, I'm sorry, that was a mistake.. we did not have much time to prepare the apartment because you did check in early in the morning or 9am instead of 2pm (which was complimentary) so the change over time was very short and in that rush we forgot the drinks. Regarding toiled rolls there is 1 roll for each day. If the toiled was not clean, I'm deeply sorry that it got left out when we were rushing to clean the apartment before your early arrival. That should never happen again, it is totally unacceptable and I wish you could have notified us when you found out, because we would have fixed that problem right away. Thank you for staying, best regards Siggi

The apartment that we rented in Reykjavik was described accurately in its listing. The property was clean and well maintained. Siggi, our landlord, was very helpful and answered all of our questions. He also recommended a local restaurant, Pisa, which was fabulous. We took a day trip to the Blue Lagoon, out of this world, and also. a day trip on the Golden Circle, interesting and worthwhile. We had a wonderful time in Reykjavik and I would recommend this property to a friend or relative.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Overall a very good stay. Siggi was helpful in every way. The location is central to every downtown attraction and our tours picked us up from the front door. The clubs on the main floor do use the back terrace as a smoking area so there can be some noise on the weekends until early in the morning. If you are flying in from North American then I would look at going to the Blue Lagoon instead of arriving so early in the morning that nothing else is open. Thanks for the loan of the adaptor Siggi. Doug CRecommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hi Douglas, thank you for your stay. The club is in Hotel Borg which is the building across from the apartment building, unfortunately sometimes they open out their back door for smokers which is illegal and not on their property. This is very recent and will be tackled by the authorities. Sorry about that, but when you are right in the centre this can happen.

The apartment and it's location we're everything my friends and I could have hoped. Short walk to great shopping and restaraurants as well as points of interest. Although it was a little loud on in the area on Saturday night we just chalked it up on people's anticipation of Iceland's National Holiday the next day. Siggi was great at responding to my e-mails and providing good advice for parking our rental car and was more than happy to swing by to teach me how to operate the washing maching (it's a little different from what I use in Canada) If you're looking for a place to stay that is right in the middle of the action, this is the spot. Thanks Siggi for everything and I'll definitely be looking to book your apartment when I visit Iceland again. ShawnDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Better late than never on the review, I guess. :) My wife and I decided on Iceland as a part of our honeymoon based on our love of the scenery and the local music that we love (I'm a musician). (The Sigur Rós film Heima was a huge part of it--see it.) After a week there, I'm now obsessed and rarely go a day without thinking about Iceland and our time there. We happened to plan it during a week of perfect weather, right as it was starting to stay light at all hours. It was magic. The people were incredible. We'll be returning, and dragging friends with us. We loved the look of the apartment from the pictures here, the location seemed great, and Siggi was great to chat with through email--so we booked it. We had a rental car and just used street parking around the building; it was cheap and I've never seen a pay parking system that was so NOT out to get people. You can't pay for time when the parking is free. It just rolls to the next day! We even got a parking ticket once and it was a pleasant experience to pay. Just go to a bank teller; the faster you get there, the cheaper it is. It almost doesn't even make sense to someone who has dealt with Chicago parking authority. The pictures do the apartment justice. The balcony is nice. It's spacious and well-equipped. It is also SUPREMELY located. We walked basically everywhere and it was in such a great location. Yes, you may hear the late-night drinking crowd from nearby bars, if you're worried about that. It didn't bother us in the slightest, and I think we were there at peak time for it. Plus, late-night on weekends means food trucks basically right outside the downstairs door. Siggi was out of the country when we were there, but he had a very helpful friend meet us for the initial check in (who was also available if we had questions). He's the one who made us realize how dumb we had been with the clothes dryer. Note that when the little water tray light is lit up and the dryer won't turn on, you need to empty the container on the TOP LEFT of the dryer, with the somewhat impossible-to-notice handle. The entire chassis of the dryer got a solid cleaning out of us before we finally asked. We left some helpful Post-Its on the dryer, but they probably didn't last. Anyway, what a wonderful place. We'll be emailing Siggi when we're planning on returning. Check out Café Babalú (became our home base when out and about) and 12 Tónar for amazing music discoveries (great record store with occasional performances).Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

i stayed at this apartment for a long weekend with 3 friends and had a wonderful time. the apt is clean and well maintained with everything you could want (except i didn't see a local phone in the apt?). Siggi was great; he met us at the apt right on time and answered all of our questions. the apt is centrally located and really was so easy for us to go virtually anywhere in the city. it was safe and had a nice little balcony for us to enjoy some fresh air. it really was in the middle of everything which made it easy to walk everywhere instead of using cabs. all of the tour companies picked us up or dropped us off just down the block from the apt. one thing to know is that it is VERY loud on thursday nights (due to the bars in the area). we knew this in advance and had prepared ourselves for it and luckily it was only the one night but it was pretty loud until about 2am from a bar downstairs that had a local musician playing. but that is something you just have to deal with if you want to stay right in the heart if everything. overall a great stay and would definitely recommend this apt to anyone looking for a nice trip.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear Rosie I'm sorry about the noise, but it's illegal to cause loud noise like after 10PM on weekdays and 12AM on Friday and Saturday, so this must have been some special occasion since all bars should close a 1AM on weekdays. Thursday nights are usually very quiet. I would have called the police to clear the restaurant, if I would have been notified about this, I'm surprised that my neighbors or nearby hotel staff didn't call the police. As I said this was probably some special occasion and I'm sorry that you had to experience that. It was great having you as guests, best regards Siggi

"When in Reykjavik"... don't stay out in the suburbs! And why spend twice as much on a hotel (with less space) in the same location? This apartment is perfectly located, right where the old harbor scene intersects the main shopping street. It is also around the corner from Iceland's parliament and well supported with good Thai, Pizza, Coffee and Sushi on the same block! Our family of four spent 3 nights here in August. Siggi was very helpful and met us at the apartment at 1:30am because of our late arrival. The apartment was clean and well-supplied: there was coffee for the pot, soap/shampoo in the shower, etc. The window shades worked well so we could avoid the early morning sunrises! We struggled long and hard with "where to stay" when visiting Reykjavik for the first time. Sure, there were other rentals that have more space, but just like London or NYC, location is the most important thing and this place nails it! Celebrate your first night in Iceland with Hakarl!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We rented this apartment for one week at the end of June. Siggi picked us up at the airport and brought us to the apartment. He showed us how to operate everything and helped us get oriented with the space. We were very, very pleased with the apartment. The location is central to everything-- grocery mart, wine store, bakery, restaurants, taxis, museums, and great shopping are all within a short walk. The apartment itself has everything one would need for a week-long stay. We were traveling with 2 small children (ages 10 months and 4), and the extra space and conveniences (basic kitchen utensils, laundry, elevator, sat tv) that the apartment provided were very much appreciated by all. Our children were comfortable and felt at home, so that made the trip quite easy and relaxing for us. Siggi also gave us some day trip ideas and pointed out several noteworthy sights that we took advantage of. Overall, we can't say enough about the apartment. It was modern, clean, convenient, well-equipped, and, most of all, provided our family with a relaxing enjoyable atmosphere that made for a memorable vacation. We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We spent 4 nights at the end of May following a 27 day cruise. We cannot say enough positive things about how centrally located the apartment is to all types of really good restaurants, transportation, mini-marts, ATM's, tourist office and souvenier shops. We took the Flybus from the airport to Hotel Borg and the apartment is just behind that. The process of getting there was seamless. We had a few issues with the apartment itself. The description says that soap is provided. Thankfully we had brought a bar from our cruise as we would not have had a shower the first night. Also, juices and soft drinks were not provided. Our main negative issue however was the bed in the bedroom. The description says queen size but we seriously doubt that description. We have a queen size bed at home and this mattress was quite a bit less spacious. We think the bed frame was queen size but not the mattress. Also, our stay included a Friday night and we also experienced the party bar noise that another reviewer mentioned. On the positive side, we discovered that the coffee pot in the apartment was broken and we e-mailed Siggi and we had a new one provided in time for the next morning. The apartment is bright and cheery, there were a number of TV channels in English and although we didn't do any cooking, the kitchen appeared to be well equipped. We fell in love with Iceland and hope to return someday. In spite of our few issues, we would definitely rent this apartment again. The location is just excellent and we would come a little better prepared next time with regards to basic necessities. To anyone looking to rent this apartment, we would say you'll be happy you did so. We are happy we did!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear Nancy Thank you for staying at our apartment. I'm sorry about the complementary being missing, the person who takes care of the cleaning has been away because of health problems and a substitute cleaning person was not informed enough how to prepare the apartment before your arrival, those issues have now been fixed. The Queen size bed standard in Europe is 150cm but 168cm in USA, thats why you probably felt it was not as big as in your home. I hope to see you again and thank you for being a great guest.

My friend and I just spent five nights in this apartment. The location is perfect for exploring Reykjavik. There are numerous tourist shops in the area that will arrange trips including one next door, upstairs in the book store. We did the 2 in 1 Volcano Tour one day which included the stops on the bus tours of the Golden Circle, but it was just us and our guide. The Hotel Borg around the corner is a convenient pickup spot for tours. The following day we did the Blue Lagoon, and reserved one day for the local museums. The bakery next door has wonderful breakfast and lunch food. There is a liquor store around the corner for picking up wine. Beware, the store closes at 6:00 PM, and is not open on Sunday. The apartment is comfortable. In fact, we picked up food at a nearby grocery store and cooked in one night. Restaurants are located in any easy walking direction. Make sure you go to the local hotdog stand showing Bill Clinton's photo when he ate there. Best dogs in the world! We could not have chosen a better location for doing everything we wanted to do. There are stacks and stacks of brochures, maps, and literature in the apartment on attractions and tours. Reykjavik is a wonderful city with friendly people and this location made everything easy and enjoyable.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The apartment is clean, nice and right in the center of Reykjavik - near all the stores and restaurants. It is excellent for 2 persons, but it fits 3 or 4 persons as well. The owners were very friendly and allowed us to keep the apartment longer when our flight was delayed. Al in all, the apartment was very good value and we had a great stay in Reykjavik. Hope to come back some day!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was our 2nd trip to Reykjavik (we stayed for one week). The apartment is in the most wonderful location in the heart of Reykjavik. Less than one block away is a 24-hour grocery store (we visited daily), parking was fairly easy to find and immediately downstairs there is a tourist shop with basic cards, stamps, books, etc and a bakery. Within one block there is also a bank, several restaurants and bars, a post office box and a book store. The owner was friendly, welcoming and very helpful as we planned our trip and he gave us suggestions after we arrived, too. The apartment itself is modest in size, but perfect for three adults. We were able to pack less due to the washer/dryer (yay!), the kitchen had everything we needed for cooking basic meals and it was clean and comfortable. We failed to read the instruction about turning on the satellite to get television stations, but we weren't in Iceland to watch TV so it was okay. Everything about the apartment was delightful. Our only issue came on Friday night when the bar backs up to the courtyard beneath the apartment had a late night DJ spin until 5am. Eventually the consistent thumping and occasional screams became monotonous and we were able to fall asleep, but it was only that one night (Saturday night was strangely quiet) and we were never able to hear street traffic or pedestrians on other nights. If you're looking for a modest, clean apartment in the heart of downtown within EASY walking distance of all the bars, clubs, restaurants, shopping and easy access to main roads then this is perfect. The owner is helpful and we will definitely consider staying here again if we make a return visit. Don't forget to stop into Prikid just up the hill on the corner. Best lattes in town and a funky menu and crowd. Our favorite spot (with free WiFi)!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

My fiancee and I had a wonderful stay at Siggi's apartment. Siggi was extremely helpful in answering all of our questions and giving us great guidance on places to visit and eat. He even went as far as helping me send my parking ticket payment in! This apartment has everything you need for a long-term stay. My fiancee stayed for 9 days and we couldnt be any happier with the location. It was our first time to Reykjavik and this location is truly central to it all. All the good restaurants/bars/shoppping are very close by-...this is the area you want to stay in when visiting Reykjavik. We spent some time working on our laptops in the apt. The high-speed wi-fi worked flawlessly. You have a full kitchen, washer and dryer, etc. When we visit Iceland again, we will stay here. Takk fyrir Siggi!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Right in between uptown and downtown, walking distance to all the best restaurants, clubs, shops, you name it. I would recommend this place to anyone going to Reykjavik. Siggi was very helpful and very easy to get in touch with. I can't say enough good things about this apartment, the location and the country of Iceland. I will definitely be back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We spent a week in Reykjavik. This apartment was really great, felt like home away from home. All the things a family with children needs were here. The location is superb - bus stops, taxi stations, shops, restaurants, tourist info are just around the corner. We spent 4 days in the apartment and it was great! Walking distance to everything. Loved the convenience of grocery store nearby so we usually ate breakfast there every morning which made it all the more relaxing. Thanks Siggi this is a great apartment and we would recommend it to all our friends!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
