My wife, daughter and I had a great time staying at this home. We came to have a relaxing weekend and to tour Western Carolina University. The house was exactly what we were looking for in a vacation rental. The views from this house are tremendous and is located in a truly quintessential mountain setting. Relaxing on the deck outside and sitting around the fire pit to enjoy the views was just amazing. It was a short drive to Waynesville and my wife and daughter really enjoyed shopping and dining in the very nice downtown area. The Leaping Frog restaurant is an excellent place to enjoy a unique dining experience. I would like to thank Dave for letting us enjoy his mountain home and I would recommend this house to anyone who would like to enjoy a fantastic mountain getaway.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

This home is situated on a beautiful mountain top with a spectacular view from the deck and can accommodate a fairly large number of people. The owner has been very responsive to all of my questions and/or concerns. Our family had a wonderful time visiting a number of local attractions including Cherokee, NC, sliding rock, downtown Waynesville, and a scenic trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I look forward to visiting the area again, and recommend this unique cabin as the ideal place to stay while away on vacation.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful mountain home. We (seven ladies that needed a little R&R) truly enjoyed staying at “Summit Splendor.” As soon as we stepped into the house we became very nostalgic. The fireplace, the sun room and the wonderful huge round dining room table provided a special place to remember old times and make new memories! Everything we were looking for was provided – privacy, great views, close proximity to many things to do and see, and a spacious, cozy home with all the amenities. As for the outside, we so enjoyed the rocking chairs and the beautiful, NC mountain view from the back porch. It is a great place to read a book, share a meal or just hang out and enjoy the mountain air. The location is great for nature walks. We found an old wooden bridge and a beautiful mountain stream. What an awesome place to get away and relax. We look forward to our next visit.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Summit Splendor was a great location for our extended family vacation. The cabin comfortably accommodated 7 adults, 3 kids and 3 dogs, with parking for 3 vehicles. The cabin was clean and well equipped, and offers great views of nearby mountains. Nearby summer attractions include golf courses, aquatic activities (including the rock slide near Brevard), hiking and driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway and Smokey Mountains National Park. A day trip to Biltmore was well worthwhile - discount tickets are available online for advance purchase. Grocery stores are available in Sylva or Waynesville.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers.

This place is a hidden gem! Every morning the adults would sip coffee on the long wide porch in rocking chairs while the kids hogged the indoor tv watching cartoons. The view was amazing, and we spent as much time outside as we could. We grilled on the deck, played cards on the deck, and ate dinner on the deck. We tubed at the Smokey Mountain National Park twice and loved the freezing cold mountain water on a hot summer’s day. The place was perfect for our large family with lots of kids and a dog. Thank you David for making our family vacation wonderful!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+.

Our family, a group of 13, stayed a week at Summit Splendor. It was wonderful! The house offers plenty of space for a large group and comfortable beds. The view is amazing and the constant mountain breeze was nice. The location was key, being central to most everything you want to do while in the Smokies. Would definitely recommend this house to anyone wanting to get a way!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

About the owner: Our Cabin in Balsam, NC has been in our family since 1974. It sits on a ridge line, which gives it a nice mountain breeze, looking at Mt Lynn Lowrey. Hiking, rafting/tubing, golfing, shopping & relaxing on the porch in a rocking chair are our favorite things to do. In 2002 we added a new porch, a sun room, and 2 bedrooms + a bathroom. We have had wonderful family vacations and great memories of our time in Balsam. Our cabin is great for large families or for multiple families to vacation together.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The view from our porch looks northwest at Mt Lynn Lowrey. At night, lights illuminate a 60-foot-high cross placed at the peak of Mount Lynn Lowry. The cross and Mt. Lynn Lowry are both dedicated to General Lowery’s daughter Lynn who died of leukemia at the age of 16. The cross was dedicated by evangelist Billy Graham in 1965. The entrance to the Blue Ridge parkway is a 5 minute ride from the cabin & Maggie Valley, Waynesville & Asheville are all close by.
