my husband and I, my mother and my brother enjoyed our stay at this resort very much. We booked the Bungelow. The bungelow was neat and tidy, and consisted of 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. Two of the larger bedrooms had decks with table and chairs. The larger rooms both had coffee/tea making facilities as well as a small refrigerator. We had exclusive use of the outdoor kitchen and living room, which was fantastic! The appliance and cookware were top of the line. The only thing lacking was measuring spoons. Although the pool was not warm enough to enjoy, we used the hot tub every night. The staff/owners were all wonderful to deal with and very helpful with local information. The drive to the resort is quite fun, and makes for a good adventure. The resort has beautiful lush landscaping, and is close enough to Paia to be there in 20 minutes, yet far enough away that you get the true feel of Maui. My only caution would be the many steps at the resort, not a problem for most, but difficult for my 80 year old mother. We did not get to see the water features in action, but the property is so lovely, we hardly missed them. You will find true peace and quite at this resort, so calming and relaxing!

My husband and I chose Pahana for our Australian-Canadian wedding in March 2012. Our choice was largely influenced by the prompt and friendly communication with Keith, one of the owners, who was quick to answer all our queries and offer advice whenever it was needed. The photos could not have prepared us for the dream location that is Pahana. The view, the gardens, the beautifully appointed rooms, the spectacular pool, the amazing outdoor kitchen... We were taken aback by how beautiful it truly was, and our families who stayed with us at Pahana for a week were all in awe of the place. We'll never forget the nights we spent having family dinners around the table in the open kitchen, or the afternoons in the hot tub and pool gazing out at the sea and the occasional passing whale. And the girls absolutely loved starting each day with yoga on the point. Pahana is the perfect place for a family holiday where everyone has their own space as well as places to come together. Our wedding went off without a hitch, largely thanks to all the help and advice that Keith provided. The point for the ceremony, pool for cocktails and lawn for the tented reception were the perfect combination of spaces for our 50 person event. All our guests raved about the location, many commenting that they would love to get married in such a spectacular spot. Most stayed in Paia and loved exploring the surrounding area. The week and the wedding could not have been better. We will treasure the memories of our stay at Pahana until our next visit (hopefully before too long!).

We loved our Maui vacation (our first). We arrived from Seattle so jet lag and trip was not too heavy on us. We rented a car (a must for Maui anyway) and headed the other direction from all the condo and resort visitors. We found a green and wild country until we arrived at the Estate. Placed in a paradise jungle, with views (from inside and outside) to die for of the sea and very civilized. We stayed in the house where one bed has a 3-inch railing on all sides and curtains for toddler nap time. The other bed had windows on two walls and perfect privacy. We picked fruit and herbs from the farm and went into Paia for lunch and other groceries. We had a head start for the "Road to Hana" so we felt lucky in not having to rush out first thing the morning we wanted to take that route. The owner and staff helped out with the kids in all ways, found time for us parents to have nights out and divine yoga/massage outdoors for me. The pool and hot tub were placed brilliantly and not too close to the main house (avoiding water accidents with little ones). The only thing we could have wished for over what was offered was a covered outdoor area by the house for those torrential rains - but staying in the house during rain showers still felt almost out there as there are windows everywhere. Our kids were four and two and a half.

Our stay at Phana was outstanding, we had such a wonderful holiday, enjoying the truly stunning propertity to the max!!! The sweet lemons from the garden, the stunning views of the ocean, the lush rainforest and the perfect location on the island to go anywhere were just simply perfect. A group of 6 of us stayed at the Pahana Estate in February 2011 and it was even more beautiful than it looked on the website! The outdoor kitchen/dining area is wonderful and fully stocked with all the kitchen supplies you need -- you can pick fresh herbs from the planters right next to the kitchen and there is a beautiful organic garden on the property which offers lots of fresh greens and veggies as well. The view is stunning and even with other people staying on the property it still felt very private. Summer, Richard, Grant all were extremely helpful, friendly and really enhanced our stay with lots of interesting facts and info about the property and the area. You definitely need a vehicle if you're staying here as its quite a ways from the beaten track, about a 25 minute drive from Pai'a. If you're looking to really get away and enjoy a wonderful retreat, this is the perfect spot, I am very much looking forward to the day when I can get back there!

For my 30th birthday I wanted to do something I would remember forever with all my closest friends and this was certainly the perfect solution. It's isolated, so be sure that's what you're going for, we had a beautiful 9 days in paradise. Pictures don't really do it justice, the setting is much more beautiful in person. Great attention to detail, friendly hosts, you really feel right at home. We rented the main house and the top level of the pool house and if I had it to do over we would have rented both pool houses and the bungalows. I think that would have worked better for our group. The main house is spacious but really best suited for no more than four adults, unless you're completely comfortable literally being in each others space the entire time. There is limited privacy so I would suggest it to close friends or family. The doors to the bedroom and in the living area and they aren't proper doors, it's hard explain but was certainly awkward. There's a pass through in the ceiling from the kitchen to the second bedroom that has no glass, and there's a pass-through in the master bedroom to the bathroom as to not obstruct the view though I thought glass would have been a better solution here. Really only works for a couple. The bungalows and pool house are all very private with great views. Not a bad view on the property really. You'll need to bring everything as far as kitchen supplies go, there is cookware but it's limited and there wasn't anything in the way of condiments, but you can stop at Costco on your way up from the airport. Really nothing negative to report here. Make sure to look into the Spa services they're all a great deal and the, everyone was really happy with Summer's work. She's diligent and sincere and really has a passion for energy work. Another great thing is you won't have to bother buying random things to bring back as gifts because they make honey and marmalade on the property, both of superior quality and unique distinct flavor. The only thing I might change is I was kinda bummed that the water features weren't running regularly, I only actually saw them on once, maybe that's something they save for weddings. And the chairs all have cushions that have to be taken in and out due to the rain....but what can you do when you're in paradise and the only think you can complain about is the lack of a water feature. Angelo

Our stay at pihana was a delight. From the moment we arrived everything about the place was magical . Cher and the staff welcomed us as if we were family . They took care of anything and everything we needed . The property sits on one of the most amazing pieces of land that sprawls to the water in one direction and to beautiful flowers and trees in the other. I was fortunate to see baby dolphins being born right in front of me in the stunning cove below [and that was after a relaxing outdoor massage right there at the point]. The property is just close enough to get to things in 10 to 20 minutes and that is such a relief because its just far enough to escape the hustle and bustle too . we enjoyed the nearby city centers and beaches but boy was it bliss going back to the property . We enjoyed the property with all its delights so much we somedays didn't want to leave even though we had lists of things to do and see. The main house was so beautiful and so so comfortable and had everything we needed plus some. Waking to that glorious view was stunning. I will go back without a doubt . I suspect everyone who has heard me tell one of the amazing stories about our stay will also be considering going there . For me this place was a truly spiritual experience . So many smiles , so much laughter , peace and beauty everywhere you look .... not to be missed if you stay in upcountry maui !!

We arrived at the Airport got our car and headed on the trek to Pihana. The first four in our group to arrive we complained about the twists and turns and wrong turns to only have our breathe taken away at the serenity and beauty of the oasis the road lead us to. Keith and Melania greated us with the warmest smiles and ease. The only complaint is the pictures on-line do not do Pihana justice at all. It is serene, tropical, and beautiful. The grounds are meticulously well maintained. The details, furnishings and amenities are selected with care and style. I would reccommend a huge purchase at Costco, right near the airport, or a supermarket for breakfast and lunches. The family style cooking facilities in both the main house and the outdoor kitchen are phenomenal for getting everyone together to prepare meals and snack throughout the day. And don't forget the wine, the owner thoughtfully provides a wine refrigerator. The property is not far from Paia, where you will find many eateries. We had a large group, but each of us had space and freedom to explore and enjoy the wonderful Pihana Estate...Find a reason, get your ticket you will not be disappointed.

If you are looking for a relaxing, rejuvenating, restore-your-soul vacation, then I highly recommend this location. Everything from the lush gardens and ponds, to mix of modern and antique furnishings, is perfection. The owners and caretakers are incredibly kind and hospitable. I spent a week staying in the bungalow and it was amazing. Rent a car to take day trips around Maui, then retreat back to the estate for lounge time by the pool or on one of the decks overlooking an incredible ocean view. Walk the property, dine in the outdoor kitchen, watch the cute little toads that come out at night, gaze at the stars. As for general location, this was my first time to Maui and I was very happy with the area. The weather was fantastic in early September - low 80s with a nice ocean breeze that kept me from overheating. The estate is close to several charming little towns (Makawao – quaint with fantastic shops; Paia – fun, casual surfer town) and it’s an easy drive to Lahaina or the South Shore. You will adore this place.

The Pihana Estate is absolutely gorgeous and relaxing. The pictures don't even do it justice! My husband and I got married on the estate and both of our families (14 people) stayed at Pihana for 5 nights. The location is down a secluded jungle road, and the property is lush and tropical. Our wedding was right next to a cliff and the flowers were all picked from the property. The owner Keith was incredibly helpful, had great recommendations for vendors and made sure the event was perfect. Everyone at the Pihana is friendly and wonderful. The estate is exquisitely decorated and comfortable. You can tell a lot of thought has been put into every detail, including striving to be green and sustainable. We spent many hours cooking and hanging out in the outdoor kitchen as well as swimming in the beautiful pool and hot tub. The property is at the beginning of the road to Hana and close to Mama's Fish House and Pa'ia. The only thing I would have done differently is stay there longer. I would highly recommend Pihana Estate and hope to go back there for many anniversaries to come!

We were so lucky to have found this perfect location to have our wedding. The drive into the property is when we realized we had found the jewel as we sunk deeper and deeper away from the realities of the world. Once we arrived at the estate it was nothing but enchantment. With breath taking views, serene landscape and the tranquil sounds from the pool and ponds, it was nothing but relaxing from the minute we took out first breath. There is nowhere else in the world I would have rather had our wedding, than where we did.

My wife and I spent a week at the Pihana Estate and loved it. The property is a first class private resort that we loved. This is NOT your typical rental home. The property and decor is amazing with ancient Chinese antiques and furniture. We stayed in the ocean bungalow and enjoyed it and really loved the OUTDOOR kitchen area! The ocean views from the kitchen are breath taking! We loved having breakfast and dinner while whale watching. The estate grounds are stunningly beautiful. You will be staying in the rain forest and will have all the lush plants surrounding the estate. The drive in off the main road looks like you are on the Road to Hana! You "may" wish you had a SUV for the road in (lots of pot holes), but our car was fine... It was a rental car! :-) The Estate is about 15 minutes from the little town of Paia which is has shopping, food, and gas. Also a nice beach is there to lay out. The airport is about 35 minutes away (the mileage isn't that far, but the speed limits on the roads are painfully slow!). To travel to the other side of the island and get to Lahaina the drive is about an hour and 15 minutes. We did spend a lot of time exploring the island since it was our first time to the island...our next trip will be spent doing nothing but enjoying the sun at the Estate! We had the opportunity to meet the Estate owner (Keith) and he was great. We loved our time at the Estate and will return. Thanks for everything Keith!

My family and I stayed at Pihana estates in January 2010. We stayed in the main guest house and absolutely adored the property and our specific accommodations. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower. It was hard to come back and get used to showering indoors again. The outdoor kitchen and BBQ allowed for us to have delicious meals and save money on food. The views are stunning and we even saw whales in the bay just below the property. Our kids really enjoyed the swimming pool and spa, while we enjoyed the relaxation and quiet. We were even able to enjoy fresh coconuts which grow on the property. The estate is close to the main road to Hana as well as the Twin Falls stop which we visited. We loved swimming in the pool at the base of the waterfall. This was not our first vacation to Maui, but we really enjoyed staying on the North Shore and specifically at Pihana Estates. We will definitely be returning for future visits.

We spent an amazing few nights at this magical spot. The ocean views with occasional whales and the flock of parrots made the experience quite special. The place is great for two people looking to get away or for a large group, such as a family reunion or a wedding. This is such a great alternative to the usual resort experience!

We spent 9 days at the Pihana Estate and were lucky enough to be joined by the estate's owners; a smart and gracious group that made our stay even better. The estate is private and embedded in a tropical wonderland. There is so much to explore in the area, without all the tourist trappings of the hotel strip. We're already planning our next visit.

We were fortunate to spend three days at the Haiku estate, away from the bustle of holiday visitors. The serene, distant views and sophisticated atmosphere are lovely, and I especially appreciate the outdoor kitchen and dining area. The interiors of the house and bungalows are stunning yet comfortable, filled with authentic Asian antiques. The proximity to the small town of Paia is nice, since it has the best local restaurants, grocery and galleries on Maui. For those who are looking to get away from overgroomed developments, such as Wailea, and for those who want to bring a group to Hawaii (wedding, etc), this is the perfect place.
