A perfect and relaxing finale to our first trip to Chile. Villa Puertazul is a treasure of a place and we feel very lucky to have shared in its beauty. The grounds and walking paths are so lovely in autumn's golds, reds, and browns! Delicious membrillo, walnuts, homemade apricot jam, and apples from the tree in front of the house. Our time here was too brief but well enjoyed. Watching the moon rise over the mountains, awed by soaring condors and the glittery Southern Cross in the sky. The Villa is well appointed and thoughtfully laid out. The fireplace kept us warm and cozy and the furnishings were comfortable and beautiful. Special thanks to Amaranta for all the careful arrangements and tours. We started our trip at Villa Las Violetas (another of Judy's VillasinChile) which was the perfect home base for discovering Santiago. Thank you so much.. "We must confess....we have lived"

Nothing you can say that's not been said! Nothing you can do that's not been done! The Beetle's "All you need is love" and there is a definite sense of love in this unspoiled beautiful spot. We saw the stars and climbed in the mountains. We went white water rafting and trekking. All of our guides were proud of their country and made us feel at home in Maipo. Amaranta and her Ignatio were more than helpful. Nancy cooked for us with a smile a mile wide. Thanks Judy for sharing your beautiful home!

If I could describe our stay here at Villa Puertazul in gushing prose, I would. Alas, I'm relegated to words like wonderful, magnificent and delightful. We are two couples on a one month adventure in South America and this is our first stop. If we could, we would spend the whole month here. Thanks to Amaranta and Toyita for the their help, and to Judy for making her beautiful home available to us.

Our group was received with open arms and happy hearts. The details and warm-friendly touches that were found all around the rooms of the houses and yard was more than expected. The manager was genuinely caring to ensure that we had everything we needed. The homemade jams were spectacular and the garden was inspirational.

The property is absolutely breathtaking and so very peaceful. It is so refreshing to visit a place where everything is homegrown and made with love. Toyita took care of everything we needed and was wonderful. Nancy made us wonderful BBQ's and breakfast which was perfect because it can be difficult to eat out with a baby. We cannot wait to come back with friends and family and show them this beautiful place that we were so lucky to find. We hope to return at least two more times before we leave Chile next year. We enjoyed the winery tour, a few hikes and lots of sunshine and the friendship of "Ginger" the cat. We loved it all. Our group has had some great family trips; but i believe this one tops the list!..........a sentiment shared by every member of our party. Of the two properties (Puertazul and Tunquen) , it would be hard to pick a favourite.......and of course there's no need . Each had it's own individual character and setting. In Puertazul the location was superb; not only as a launching point for activities, but because this meticulously landscaped property allowed the perfect synthesis of land (mountain), water (Maipo) and sky. For me, this engendered a feeling of fulfillment and harmony that is both rare and precious; and it's why coming back to this property after a days excursion, will remain as a true highlight of our trip.

Our stay at Villa Puertazul is one I will never forget, better than any of us could have ever dreamed. From the moment we arrived on this beautiful property to the day of our departure, we have seen and done things alot of us never thought we would do. Rafting on the River Maipo, horseback riding in the Andes, simply lounging poolside in the beautiful villa, it was a paradise brought to life by the wonderful people who made our stay so special. Muchos, muchos gracias...

We have never been surrounded by such a great orchard - we so enjoyed all the different fruit and nut trees. Apple, walnut, pear, almond, apricot, pomegranate.... The walk down to the river is a very neat and pleasant experience and hearing the sounds of the river and having such a beautiful view of the mountains and river makes you feel relaxed and like you are in paradise. The rafting at Cascades was so much fun. The guide was a riot but you also felt safe and it was a great opportunity to see the mountains from a different perspective. Our last day we went horseback riding in the Andes, which was an experience that was truly memorable and something we will never forget. We were thrilled. The horses and mules each had their own personalities, but we always felt completely safe. The classic Chilean BBQ at the quincho in the mountains was delicious and relaxing.

The beauty of the grounds, the terrific weather, and the comfortable villas were all very much appreciated. After every day trip, we all felt like we were coming home. Our thanks to Toyita for her quiet attention to detail. We loved the flowers she provided, both outdoors in the lovely gardens and those she picked for our casas. Her jams and marmelades were terrific too. Thanks also to Nancy for her bread, rolls, cheese and pies. We really enjoyed the barbecue she and Antonio provided. We looked forward to her treats each day. Finally, thanks to Amaranta and Ignacio who provided invaluable assistance and advice for activities and directions. Their tasting menu was superb with the freshest ingredients and impeccable wine pairings. We so enjoyed the evening and the stories and information shared. All of you made us feel very welcome in your truly beautiful country.

I'd highly recommend this property as a base for a trip, to those who want something more than just a week in the sun at some "compound" (americanized resort). Here , you get the best of everything; sun ,clear air, comfortable temps at night for sleeping, spectacular scenery; and an almost limitless choice of activities including , hiking in the mountains, white water rafting, tours to world class wineries, day -tours for sight- seeing, and horse riding. A huge vote of confidence as well to all the people associated with this property (on site). Amaranta and Ignacio were pivotal to our experience in Chile; facilitating various expeditions and giving advice and translating as required. A big highlight for several of our group was the day Ignacio accompanied us on a horse riding trek into the Andes hosted by his friend Hernan.............an experience we'll never forget! The property itself was in a fantastic location; terrific mountain views and just below the Maipo river; which provided another great experience the day we went white-water rafting. The grounds were carefully designed with an array of fruit and nut trees as well as rose gardens , beds with annuals and perennials and many fine herbs and shrubs...........all meticulously attended by Toyita , who also kept the accommodations spotless! What a great place to come home to , after a day's excursion!..........it felt like our own, and we could relax in the hot tub with a glass of wine before preparing our diner in Judy's well appointed kitchens! I must also note that this property is conveniently located just an hour and a half from Santiago ; and that the owner (Judy) was very helpful, friendly and easy to deal with in arranging booking. In conclusion, it would be hard for me to imagine that there could be anyone who wouldn't like this property , it's location and all the wonderful people and options that are included.

A beautiful property, we loved just staying there and soaking up the beauty. We did, however, venture to Haras de Pirque, a gorgeous winery well worth leaving the property for. Toyita was lovely and kept the places tidy, and Amaranta was very helpful planning things to do. A highlight was the 5 course wine pairing dinner cooked at the villa for us by Amaranta and her husband.

Dear Judy, It is hard to imagine leaving this paradise after our 4 night stay – We loved everything about our riverside Casita #2– the two decks overlooking the river, the well-stocked kitchen, the colors, the comfy beds, the perfect floor plan for a family of three. The property is lovely. We couldn’t believe all the fruit trees!! We tried figs, apricots, pears and walnuts off the trees. Toyita brought us walnuts and her special apricot and sour cherry jams. All were magnificent! Her flower arrangements were lovely. We were very grateful for how carefully she tends the gardens. Our special thanks for Amaranta and Ignacio who led us on a trek up the mountains where we saw tow condors soaring!! and hosted us for a Chilean Tasting Menu – which was our most memorable experience in Chile. Delicious food, excellent wine pairings and most gracious hosts!! Thanks for sharing this very special slice of your world with strangers! We will always remember our stay here and hope to return soon.

We are lying down for our 14th night at this wonderful home in the Andes. We are utterly relaxed and cannot wait for our return visit to Villa Puertazul! We spent Christmas and New Year’s in this warm and inviting home – it feels like home to us now. Toyita and Nancy attend to EVERY need. The grounds are magnificent and the pool and hot tub were used every day. We invited friends and family to two asados and everyone spent the days mesmerized by the natural beauty of the Cajon del Maipo and the carefully tended beauty of the gardens. This is truly a magical spot to relax and explore. Can’t wait to come back!

We spent the last two weeks of 2010 at Villa Puertazul and had a wonderful time. The two casitas are charming, well appointed and comfortable. As it was summer, we spent most of our time outside - eating on the patio, lounging by the pool, admiring the stunning views of the mountains on all sides. The views change with the light throughout the day and it never gets old. While fairly remote, it is a quick shot to wine country and the bustle of Santiago. However, we spent several days ensconced in the beautiful gardens, relaxing completely. The caretaker is a tireless worker who does light housekeeping (makes the beds, cleans the bathrooms, etc) and maintains the gardens. A neighbor is available as much as you wish to cook and cater - fresh pan amasado every morning!! We invited friends up for a barbecue and all of our guests were amazed at this oasis in the mountains. If you are planning a trip to Chile, this is an incredible way to experience small-town, rural Chile - and be amazed by the grandeur of the Andes. Not to be missed!

Judy, Thank you for sharing your incredible villa with us. From the time we arrived in Santiago everything has gone smoothly and we have enjoyed every minute. We were greeted in Santiago and spent two days in your apartment exploring the city and Valparaiso. We enjoyed the apartment but the best was yet to come!! Villa Puertazul’s beauty and tranquility is everything you described and so much more.... Bowls of cherries and walnuts as well as fresh flowers welcomed us to this magical place. Toyita’s smile greeted us and her quiet presence was felt as she attended to all the little comforts that made the Villa feel like home. Nancy’s amazing meals were equally comforting. Her delicious menu was prepared with care and presented beautifully. She even shared her recipes so we could recreate them at home. Amaranta’s ideas for local activities were perfect for our group. The horseback riding was a bit scary but the views were spectacular. The guides and the BBQ were great as well as the hike to the waterfall. Our trip to Haras de Pirque stud farm and winery was our favorite activity. The drive was beautiful and the wines were superior. While our kids went rafting we tried the zip-line, which was exhilerating. Of course, our time sitting around the pool sunbathing and soaking in the hot tub under the stars will be our most memorable.... spending time together is this magnificent setting with the roaring river as our soundtrack was so special!

This was an excellent vacation, mostly because of the Casa at Villa Puertazul. The surrounding environment is spectacular. If you are in decent shape and love the outdoors, be sure to go on a hike with Amaranta and Ignacio (Judy's manager) They are extremely fun to chill with. Whether you enjoy wine or not, you must go and visit/tour, Haras de Pirque Winery. It is totally worth it. Hiking, wine, pisco, great food, horseback riding, waterfalls and a wonderful group of people were just a few of the things you will encounter here. Lots of fun!

I stayed at Villa Puertazul in February 2006, with two friends, and we had a wonderful time. Everyone associated with the property was very helpful and friendly, and everyone in San Alfonso was as well. There was plenty to do – hiking, horseback riding, sightseeing, the wineries – but it was just as lovely to stay at the house and do nothing! The Andes and the Maipo River provide a perfect backdrop to the pool and hot tub. We found everything we needed in the house, from plenty of linens and towels to utensils and a CD player. The weekend market in San Jose de Maipo is charming, and food and groceries (and wine) were quite inexpensive. It was an unforgettable holiday – thanks!
