Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2004
My wife and I grew up in western N.C. I work as a District Judge and enjoy fishing from the mountains of NC to the outer banks at the coast. We enjoy shopping for antiques, travel and seeing family.
Why the Owner Chose Bakersville
We bought this property because it was cool all summer (4500 feet elevation), was secluded, and was near the Appalachian Trail at the top of Roan Mountain. It is also about 15 minutes from Roan Mtn. State Park where there is a large swimming pool, tennis courts, volleyball court, amphitheatre and hiking trails. While we are located in N.C., it is only minutes away from Tennessee at the top of Roan Mtn. Elizabethton, Tn. is nearby for antiquing and Classic car show Apr.-Oct. Visit Grandfather Mtn. with "mile high" bridge and feed the bears and see other animals in their natural habitat. Museum and gift shop on property and more. Visit Blowing Rock for strolling the great shops, homemade fudge and ice cream. Visit Linville Caverns to see large caves and amazing rock formations. Asheville is 1.5 hours away and, in addition to great restaurants and shopping, is home to the Biltmore House which is the largest private residence in the U.S. Golf nearby at Mountain Glen near Newland or Grassy Creek near Spruce Pine, NC.
The Unique Benefits of this House
We enjoy the cool mountain air, no traffic, the seclusion, and time together as a family. Our home is a great getaway for several couples or a family to share. We are in the heart of the Christmas Tree growing area for N.C. and several trees have gone to the White House for Christmas! We enjoy sitting by the mountain stream during the day and falling asleep by it with the windows open at night. It's a great place to read a book, take a walk, pitch horseshoes by the creek, or relax while eating marshmallows roasted by the fire in our outdoor firepit. There is no light pollution so star gazing is the best at our house! The daytime temperatures on the Roan rarely get out of the 70's during the summer and a sweater or light jacket usually feels good at night.
