Casa de la Sirena (The Mermaid House) is a hacienda style home built on one of the largest properties in the heart of Ajijic, one of Mexico’s largest expatriate communities. This charming village, located on the shores of Lake Chapala, Mexico’s largest lake, enjoys a year round climate ranked by National Geographic as one of the best three climates in the world. This has earned the Chapala Region of Mexico the name, “Land of Eternal Spring.”
Casa de Sirena is built for indoor and outdoor living. Constructed within the high walls surrounding the property, privacy is assured. The home is designed to feature the opportunity to take advantage of the wonderful climate, with a central courtyard consisting of an outdoor living room, outdoor kitchen, pool and Jacuzzi. The indoor kitchen, living room, dining room and three bedrooms promise complete luxury when it’s time to come inside.
The hacienda is designed to provide three, separate living areas, allowing for complete and comfortable privacy whether you are one couple or three couples. When you are ready for company, the outdoor living space is ideal. And when you are in the mood to explore, step outside the walls and find yourself in a rustic Mexican Village with all its charm.
Ajijic is just 25 minutes from Guadalajara International airport, 45 minutes from Mexico’s second largest city, Guadalajara, and a few short hours drive to some of Mexico’s most charming colonial cities.

5 Star Hacienda in the Village of Ajijic
Year Purchased: 2002
Why the Owner Chose Ajijic
We were ready for an adventure and travel after our youngest child graduated from college. We heard that our favorite lake in California, Lake Arrowhead had a sister city, Lake Chapala in Mexico. We had to go! We went to visit Ajijic on the shore of Lake Chapala. We fell in love with the village and bought a Hacienda even though we didn't know a single soul living there. Almost immediately we made lots of terrific friends and learned that people my come to Ajijic for the amazing weather but stay for the amazing friends. We have never regretted that rash decision 7 years ago.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We are located in the heart of the rustic village of Ajijic. We have totally remodeled our hacienda with the help of an internationally famous Mexican architect. The Hacienda has three separate houses surrounding an outdoor living room and pool. The contrast of our 5 star "resort" and the rustic village is unique. If you are in the mood for "the big city" we are just 45 minutes from the heart of Guadalajara, Mexico's 2nd largest city. There you can find anything a first class, international city could has to offer. Ajijic is also just a few hours drive away (on excellent freeways) from historic, 500 year old colonial towns.
