My husband and I wanted to celebrate our 10yr anniversary by doing the things we loved- swimming(privately) and fishing. We found this place on the internet and scheduled it 5 months in advance. As each month passed our excitement grew. A WEEK before our scheduled stay we were contacted by country cottage and gardens that the pool and jacuzzi would not be available for use. They said that they just recently had to close the pool for construction because of a new law that was passed. All public pools now have to upgrade their equipment or face very hefty fines. Due to this, they had to close the pool down for construction purposes to comply with the new law. The whole reason we choose this place was because you could swim privately. Lets just say we were more than disappointed. We let them know how disappointed we were but sorry was all they could or would say, no discount offered. If we had been contacted sooner we would have completely canceled our reservation but it was a little late to find something that was not already booked up. We did cancel one night but decided to go ahead and give the place a try. I like to think that the pool closing was a recent development but when we read the comments in the guest book the last entry was at the beginning of July saying the pool was closed - we were told 2 weeks after that date and who knows how long they planned on closing it. That proved to me we could have been told sooner, which did not help my opinion of the place. On the positive side, I will say the contemporary cottage was nice enough, it was clean. No cable but they provide videos. The bed was very comfortable, the grounds are pretty, especially the pond which my husband enjoyed fishing. The lady that checked us in was nice and they do provide an assortment of snacks. But overall without the pool I think that its way overpriced. My suggestions for the owner would be give more than a weeks notice of the issues with the pool, give the vacationers you have scheduled already a discount for not providing all that you advertised & Most of all you need to post that the pool & jacuzzi is not available on vrbo, homeaway and your personal website.Did you find this review helpful? We just spent a whole weekend at Moose Lips Lodge and it was better than we could have ever imagined. Beautifully decorated, the owner thought of everything. Her amazing attention to detail, the privacy, the peace and quiet, and the accommodations were all fantastic. We were able to take a quiet walk on the beautiful grounds, prepare some fantastic meals outside in the fire pit, visit Atwood Lake, and relax on the screened in porch on a quiet, sunny morning and during an evening thunderstorm. This was a wonderful opportunity for us to spend some time together and we are looking forward to returning again soon.Recommended for: Romantic getaway

My name is Lisa and my husband and I stayed at this wonderful estate in May of 2007 for our anniversary. We were met by the owner and she showed us around on her golf cart and introduced us to the estate. What a peacefull weekend and relaxing R and R. We stayed in the Lodge and loved everything about it. I expecially liked the screen in porch where in the mornings read my Bible and Prayed to the LORD while in the background could hear all the lovely birds and animals that HE created. The fire at night and grilling out was also fun. The pool house was awesome and having it all to yourself was a treat. My husband and I enjoyed a little fishing but I had fun just sitting in the sun on the dock and watching him. We will definately be back for another weekend of peace and relaxation and would recommend this getaway to anyone who needs some R and R.Recommended for: Romantic getaway

My husband and I have been coming to the cottages for over five years now and we love it! I would recommend it to anyone. The host is very generous and helpful but definately keeps your privacy... and there are always fun surprises and goodies for your stay. It's a great country get-away. Very well kept inside the cottages and all over the 17 acre estate. As a side note- the last time we were there in the spring everything was in bloom and it litterally smelled like heaven all weekend we were there!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was actually our third visit here. We had stayed in the original cottage before but decided to try one of the new cottages called "Moose Lips Lodge" and loved it. All three cottages and the other buildings on the property were built by local Amish craftsmen, but not to worry,... all the modern amenities including full kitchens and baths are provided. The owners are wonderful people and we love the extra touches like the robes (great for the pool and spa) and the goodies in the kitchen. The first time we visited the local antique shops and other historic spots, but we came back to enjoy the beauty and seclusion.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a very relaxing and romantic weekend staying in the contemporary cottage. The cottage was spacious, comfortable and very well maintained. We could have easily settled in for a long stay. The private pool and hot tub were wonderful and the property is gorgeous. We will definitely be back again!Recommended for: Romantic getaway

This cottage retreat was gorgeous, huge, and on a beautiful pond, and very clean and contemporary. It was only 2 of us but it would have easily accomodated 4 friends, or a larger family trip iwth children. We enjoyed the countryside, lakes, and antique stores of the area and had a great time enjoying the cottage house we stayed at, complete with full kitchen, screened in deck, and dvd and pay per view. Wish we could have stayed a week. The owner was able to provide toiletries that I had forgotten. I recommend to friends and coworkers.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I have stayed several times at the cottage. We loved it so much that we have also sent 2 of our children and their mates there as a present. We have always had the greatest experience there. It is quiet and out of the way of the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the owners are the most gracious hosts. We are planning to return in the near future. Our other 2 children are looking forward to their turns as a gift as well. We will never forget the hospitality shown to us each and every time we have stayed there. Carolene is such a sweetheart and we are looking forward to seeing her again soon. We have always stayed in the first cabin and now they have added some new ones as well. Looking forward to seeing the changes. And we love Misty the cat and the collies. Everything is always spotless and we have recommended this cottage to everyone we know. We have even passed out the pamphlets. It was everything we were looking for and more. In my opinion the pictures do a great job describing the area. Everywhere I walked there was a something beautiful to look at. I had a very positive experience. Also there are two brand new cottages that looked absolutely fabulous. The host allowed me to tour the new cottages and i was VERY impressed. I cant wait to go back for another visit. I would consider Country Cottage the best kept secret in Ohio.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 9/10

This property is misrepresented. Yes, it may be true that is in a rural location and yes it may be situated on 17 acres, but what you don't know is the owners home is about 100 yards out your front door. That's right! If you want to go to the pool house, you will have to walk the path that goes right in front of their house. If you want to fish or canoe on the pond, you will be directly in front of their home. Don't get me wrong, they didn't bother us at all. As the matter of fact, we didn't even see them our entire stay (other than check-in). What did bother us however, is the deliberate misrepresentation of the property. If you notice, the pictures are even misleading. They are taken in such a way that you don't even see the huge home of the owners. As far as the cottage itself, what you see is what you get. No misrepresentation there. After my experience, I thought I would share this information to prevent future guests from being disappointed. It wouldn't have been so disappointing if we wouldn't have expected to have this entire 17 acres, a cottage, a pond, and a pool house to ourselves without the feeling that you could be under a watchful eye at any moment. I just wish this information would have been disclosed on any of the three websites where this cottage is listed!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 24/34
