Enjoy all that nature has to offer at this private mountain cottage. The warm weather brings an abundance of ferns and wildflowers that cover the ground like a soft green blanket. Be sure to bring your wildflower guide and your bird identification book with you - the variety of natural wonders will astound you.
Along the edge of the rushing creek, "mud puppies" can be found - hence the name of the valley in which the cottage is located - "Tusquittee" - Cherokee for the land where the mud puppies play. The endangered freshwater Crawdad can also be found along this clean, cold water creek - a unique spot that is getting harder and harder to find.
The cool and cold weather brings crisp, frosty mornings and "sparkle" to the creek waters. During the winter months, the rushing creek forms ice sheets along the rock edges as the brisk, crystal waters scoot underneath. The rock bottom of the creek takes on a rainbow of colors as the sun passes overhead - changing with each hour - an incredible site to see!
The Compass Creek community offers wonderful hiking to those who like to venture out and explore. The community backs up to the US Forest Service with thousands of acres of untamed territory that brim with Wild Turkey, Grouse and White tail Deer. Even a Black Bear or two may be seen in the area. Be sure to bring your binoculars as Mink, Muskrats, Otters, and Chipmunks can be found playing along the creek's edge.
