Our family has stayed in some 30+ vacation rental homes and condos over the years. This spacious home by far is the best equipped and very clean. We loved the kitchen because we prepare most of our meals (after 6 trips to Maui there are only so many times you want to go out and eat). The lanai is outfitted with a large 5-burner grille, a spa, a hammock chair, and two very comfy wicker chairs & side table. Mark, the owner, provides complete snorkel gear, boggie boards and the best beach chairs. We took full advantage of the free wi-fi and broadband internet as we used the 24” iMac extensively. This home is in a residential setting within a short walk to the main 4 corners of Makawao and the most popular of upcountry sites such as the Maui Winery and the Alii Kula Lavender farm are less than 30 minutes away. We also enjoyed the local farmers markets in both Makawao and upper Pukalani. There is a great outdoor rec community center only a few minutes away from this property across from the Foodland grocery store in Pukalani. It has very good walking/jogging paths, tennis courts, a pool, soccer fields and baseball diamonds. The temps here were ideal with cool mornings and low 80's in the afternoons and of course the view from the living area & lanai are fantastic; West Maui mountains and the ocean. Clearly this is one of the best homes you can rent in Makawao!

Thanks Mark, We are so glad we found your house and were able to enjoy the comforts of home while on Christmas vacation. Nice cozy little town, nice neighborhood, centrally located. The views were spectacular every morning and every night. The December showers made for spectatular rainbow displays everyday. The house was very well kept, furnished and had any and everything vacationers would need. The glasstop dining room table was amazing and the picture at the end of the table of the girl on the beach was something we enjoyed everytime we sat down. I will never stay in another hotel again while on vacation because of people like you who make vacationing a true pleasure. Thanks again, and we will definitely look you up the next time! Great location

Our family of 3 spent 8 days at this upcountry vacation home, located in a residential neighbourhood within the town of Makawao. The location was fantastic - within walking distance of the historic Makawao commercial area, and central to a variety of Maui destinations. The other advantages of the location included cooler evening temperatures, more comfortable for sleeping than at sea level and also being away from the very touristy areas of South Maui and West Maui. One disadvantage, although not a fault of the property owner, was the wild moa which could be heard throughout the day and night with a barking dog next door. If you're a light sleeper, this may not appeal to you (incidentally, I am a light sleep so this is why my rating is good and not excellent). The property itself is a comfortable, well-appointed home with a kitted-out kitchen, high tech TV and computer equipment, and a good assortment of beach gear. Our 3-yr old enjoyed the plastic shovels and mom and dad took advantage of the snorkel gear and boogie boards. The owner was always available via cell phone to respond to any of our questions or concerns. We would definitely consider staying at this location again in the future.

Makawao Haven

This is truly paradise. From the deck, you can see both shores of Maui. One morning, we spotted a rainbow that reached literally across the island. The house, itself, is amazing. Beautiful art. A glass topped dining table that brings the beach inside. Spottlessly maintained. The kitchen is equipped with just about everything one could possibly need. A huge DVD and CD collection should you wish to be entertained. Mark is a gracious and unobtrusive host. He had the hot tub heated up and ready for us when we arrived! I loved the shower in the master bedroom! There's snorkeling gear, boogy boards, beach chairs and towels for guests' use. I lost my cell phone and Mark mailed it to me. I almost hate to rave about this place, because I want to keep it for myself. Makawao is the perfect place for a nontouristy Hawaiian getaway. This house is located in a residential neighborhood just a short walk from the center of town. Casanova's restaurant has some of the best Italian food ever. Komodo's Bakery has donuts to die for. Makawao is, despite it's remote location, convenient to just about anywhere you might want to go... beaches, Hana, Haleakela, Lahina. If I'd had my way, I would never have left the deck of this beautiful home. And, the little feline visitors were polite and welcome additions to our mornings!

Peaceful Makawao

My family and I really enjoyed our stay here. We wanted to be away from the tourist area and this was the perfect spot. So peaceful and the view was spectacular!! It's a little cooler here also because you are upcountry and there is a nice breeze in the evenings. The house is clean and comfortable as described and because you are centrally located its pretty easy to get to all parts of the island and the beach is only 20 minutes away. We loved it here and will definately come back.

This was an amazing house--an escape from the masses, and incredible views. We loved Makawao (incredible donuts on a stick at the bakery!). Mark's house is beautiful, comfortable, and is a great open space. We would definitely love to come back!

Beautiful house in Makawao

Everything about this house was perfect, and every detail was thought of. Everything looked brand new. It was such a treat. Some of the things that really stood out to me were the beautiful comfortable furniture (I could have spent a whole day on one of those couches, and the dining table was spectacular); the "dream" kitchen (beautiful cabinets; the clever dishwasher that looks like a drawer; and having "staples" in the cupboard is so helpful); the totally private deck; the sound system with speakers in the ceiling, and of course the big tv that slides up and down - how cool is that! Also, having a computer goes above and beyond expectations. Oh, and the view - fantastic! It all looks even better in person than the pictures on the website could capture. It was a perfect location for exploring the beautiful Upcountry, and was a 5 minute walk to the shops in Makawao. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I can't imagine there's a better vacation rental in Upcountry.

Eine echt tolle location im upcountry maui. wir waren dort 2 wochen und haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. ein mietwagen würde ich immer empfehlen da man sonst nicht viel im dorf erwarten kann. es ist dort in makawao definitiv immer ein paar grad kühler als im rest der insel und die gelegendlichen regenfälle gehöhren im upcountry auch dazu. der ausblick ist der hammer und unschlagbar schön. die lage ist am dorfrand mit einigen nachbarn, die aber zu keiner zeit stören. unsere bbq abende am gasgrill unvergesslich. das haus ist sehr bequem und mehr als ausreichend ausgestattet bis zu 6 personen. mit 4 person ist es nach unserem geschmack bestens belegt. das preis/leitungsverhätniss ist nicht zu übertreffen. wir hatten uns zuvor sehr viel auf maui angeschaut. lage +++++ komfort +++++ preis / leistung +++++ ausstattung +++++ das einzige was eventuell anzumerken ist das die betten bei 1,40m für ein doppelbett nicht ganz den amerikanischen standartmassen entsprechen aber durchaus machbar waren für 2 wochen. für alle diejenigen die nur wegen den ständen oder zum tauchen nach maui kommen wollen ist makawao generell etwas weit entfernt. makawao ist eben mal eine stunde zu den meisten stränden entfernt und zum nächsten tauchcenter ebenfalls. tauchboote in maui gehen schon morgens gegen 0630 los. der kontakt zum eingetümer und seine organisation waren absolut perfekt. die beschreibungen und unterlagen zum haus lassen keine fragen offen.

What a getaway!

This is a great place nestled away in the mountains. We really enjoyed not being in the resort centers and being able to experience more of the rest of Maui. The house is well-appointed and clean. Our family of five adults and one child were more than comfortable. There were plenty of items in the kitchen if you choose to cook and even some spices! I would certainly recommend this property to family and friends. Mark is also great to work with. Makawao is a cool little town with shopping and dining options--try Komodo Bakery for sure. Being centrally located it was also a great jumping off point for our daily adventures. Unless you want to spend most of your day on the beach, you really can't go wrong with this property.

The very best of the Upcountry!

What a perfect place to stay! Arrived with my husband and 16yr old son on Christmas day and couldn't have asked for a better present! The accomodations were amazing. The view, spectacular. Everything that you could possibly need for a perfect vacation. Extremely clean, private, beautifully decorated, with very comfortable beds and truly outstanding bathrooms with great showers! The kitchen was spectacular, with everything you need. Makes you want to cook up a gourmet meal, just to look out and see the veiw! The incredible library of movies with that amazing TV made for some very cozy nights curled up on two of the most comfortable sofas I've ever curled up on! The hot tub in the evenings was oh so relaxing and made for a great nights sleep. This place is so conveinent to go to anywhere you want to go in Maui. From the road to Hana or the Haleakala National Park. Just minutes to either south or north shore beaches. The provided snorkeling equipment, body boards, & beach towels made this even easier. Another BIG plus is the large yard, which was wonderful for a little stargazing at night or to kick around a soccer ball. Makawao is such a charming town, with great restaurants & shops, the location of the house is also a quick 5 minute walk to town, which our family loved, especially our teen, who could simply run into town to the general store for that snack or simply to walk around. We have nothing but good to say about this place, would reccommend to all, and I assure you, we will be back. We have found our paradise in Maui!

Amazing stargazing and fabulous accomodations!

The husband and I were in desperate need of R&R and this place was our refuge! The photos really don't do it justice: the view from the deck and kitchen is sublime! We enjoyed watching the sunset from the deck. The grounds are well-kept and mostly private. You really are out in the country amongst the lovely horse stables and farm land. Don't be surprised if you hear a rooster or two. Also, for any astronomy geeks out there, don't forget to bring a good pair of binoculars (or telescope)! The light pollution is minimal so you can very easily see some totally rad stuff like the Andromeda Galaxy and the entire cloudy belt of the Milky Way, all from the comfort of the deck/hot tub! The hot tub provided us a prime spot for watching the Geminid meteor showers. It truly was a magical experience! The furnishings inside were tasteful and we greatly appreciated the modern home-theater system (made use of the extensive DVD selection that the owner, Mark, provides). The only downside was that we couldn't figure out how to get the speakers outside to work, but I guess that's a good thing considering the neighbors probably wouldn't have appreciated hearing the Dark Side of the Moon at 1AM. The kitchen was fully-stocked with any type of pot, pan, and fancy gizmo that would please any gourmet chef! We are big time coffee drinkers and made good use out of the espresso machine (you MUST try the coffee in Maui, in particular Maui Coffee Roasters, just off the Hana Highway near the airport). In summary, Mark's place is amazing, Mark was pleasant to interact with, and we hope to return next year!

Lovely House, Superb Location, Fantastic Stay

We rented the property for a family holiday in October. We were initially a bit worried that it was not located near one of the beaches but when we arrived we were blown away by the views and the standard of furnishings. The house is tastefully decorated and extremely well equipped. The hot tub was well used and in an excellent place to watch the sunset whilst relaxing. Makawao was a pleasant village in the upcountry. There are two or three good restaurants (Casanovas) and many shops and galleries. We especially liked the cakes from Komodas bakery (well worth a visit). A car is advisable and every part of Maui is accessable within an hours drive. Haleakala (the volcano) is on your doorstep if you decide to get up early to watch the sunrise from the summit at 10000ft (less than an hour's drive) and the nearest beach is about a 10 minute drive away. We had an amazing time on Maui in this house and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Mark, the owner, was very helpful and accomodating and there were detailed instructions on how to use all the various gadgets and equipment in the house. Aloha, from Wales!

Maui get away

We took our son, daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren to Maui recently. This property provided us with a "home base" from which to explore and enjoy Maui. The owner has gone beyond the usual to provide a homey environment that is, at the same time, a bit luxurious. The kitchen is as well appointed as my own and provided everything we needed to cook breakfast and dinner for 7 each day. We enjoyed being out of the traffic and hub bub of the coast yet within easy reach of it. The town of Makawao is an easy walk and the feeling of being in the country makes the setting far less touristy than one frequently feels nearer the beach. We will return to this property the next time we visit Maui. In fact, we will plan the trip around its availability.

From the view to the amenities available this property my family with a marvelous home base for our recent trip to Maui. The property owner has gone beyond the usual to make this home comfortable and, at the same time, a touch luxurious. Exceptionally well appointed kitchen with everything we needed for cooking breakfast and dinner daily. The home theater system was amazing and the library of videos quite extensive. Loved the location within easy walking distance of the town of Makawao. We will stay here next time we go to Maui.

We just spent two weeks in this wonderful house. It was even better than described, I have never seen a vacation rental which was furnished more tasteful or better equipped. Everything was very well maintaines and spotless clean. I could have stayed in the hot tub for days just for the views! Mark, the owner was very nice, extremly helpful and I want to thank him again for his hospitality. I will certainly come back.

What a fabulous home- great location (walking distance to Makawao center), gorgeous views, quiet and private, extremely tasteful and well-appointed, awesome host, lovely kitties, best beach in Maui is 15 minutes away (I'll let YOU find it!)- this home is highly recommended and believe me, we have "been around the block" in renting homes around the world. What a wonderful place to stay, just like being in your own home. The location was perfect for walking into town and just minutes to hiking, the beach or shopping. This home has quality designer furnishings, a well equipped kitchen for gourmet dinner parties, and comfortable for lounging (we especially enjoyed the movies available to us). We've fallen in love with Makawoa and will be returning. Thank you for the hospitality.
