Location: Baltimore, Central, Maryland, USA (4 blocks from JHU & BMA. Easy access to all Baltimore.) View Map

Accommodations:  Townhome, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

Keywords:  Charm City home, Victorian townhome, Charles Village home

The three story Victorian house (c. 1900) is located in Charles Village, a diverse, lively (and award-winning) neighborhood adjoining the main campus of Johns Hopkins University. The house is four blocks from the main Hopkins gate and is only minutes from Penn Station where commuter trains depart hourly for Washington D.C. (in fact, many residents commute to work in Washington DC). The main corridor of Amtrak also runs through this station providing easy access to Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, to name a few northeasterly points.

The spacious, high-ceilinged rooms are simply furnished but retain much of their original charm ... for example, tall wooden-shuttered front windows, hardwood floors, a claw foot tub, and French doors into the parlor. All the necessities of a comfortable life are furnished - from beds and linens to dishes, cookware and appliances.

The house is perfect for a family coming to Baltimore for the academic year. Or, it is a great place to stay while getting acquainted with the Baltimore housing market an individual or family planning to put down more permanent roots.

Why the Owner Chose Baltimore

Originally, the house was purchased as a home for us and our children who were not yet grown. Its location is ideal for folks, like us, who like a city with proud civic institutions--great universities, hospitals and medical schools, libraries, symphony and chamber orchestras, a zoo and museums in addition to our wonderful Inner Harbor with innumerable activities, restaurants, water taxis and cruises and so much history (including a lighthouse, the USS Constellation and Chesapeake Lightship). And so on!

The Unique Benefits at this Townhome

We enjoy concerts at the Myerhoff, theater at Center Stage and Everyman's Theater, the Maryland Zoo, the Maryland Science Center, Fells point, the Inner Harbor, the Charles Village Festival, the proximity not only of Hopkins but also Loyola University, the College of Notre Dame, Goucher College--all within very easy access. In addition, there are festivals too numerous to mention and concert and lecture series at all the universities.

Owner's Map of Baltimore

My husband is a retired civil engineer and I am a semi-retired writer. We lived in this house for 25 years and will continue to maintain a small 3rd-floor apartment for weekend/occasional use.

A Wonderful Stay!

We rented this wonderful home over the Christmas holiday. It was a great experience and we hope to do it again. The pictures on the website do not do the home justice. It is clean and well kept and has numerous amenities. The owners were there to greet us when we arrived and explained all the features of the home. They then quickly left saying "the house is yours!" Thank you so much for a great stay and for making our and our family's Christmas so special.

Thanksgiving Week

Guest: Jean (Arizona)
Date of Stay: 11/19/11 Review Submitted: 11/28/11

We rented during the week of Thanksgiving. The house was perfect. We had 7 people ages 1-72 staying. The rooms are spacious, clean and well decorated. Everything was extremely clean and there were plenty of towels. The common areas were great when we had guests (an additional 8 people) in for brunch. The kitchen is well equipped. We truly enjoyed our stay and the house was absolutely perfect.

Made for a perfect wedding week

Guest: Jeanne (Lakewood, OH)
Date of Stay: 08/08/11 Review Submitted: 08/16/11

My husband, daughter, son-in-law, and I stayed at this beautiful home this past week, preparing for our Baltimore daughter's wonderful wedding. We used the home's courtyard for memorable meals with our children and their partners on several evenings. We had guests for a dinner the evening before the wedding and a warm and comfortable after-wedding breakfast. Each of our guests came into this rental house and commented on the warmth and beautiful condition of the house, and guests who came for breakfast from out of town told us that it was the best wedding breakfast they'd attended, partly because of the comfort of this house. Renting this house made for a perfect wedding week for my family. The owner's attention to detail is remarkable and as we drove away, we took a picture of the home where we'd spent a week making beautiful memories as we prepared for a once-in-a-lifetime event. We could not be more grateful to the owners.

Home away from Home

Date of Stay: 06/21/10 Review Submitted: 10/13/10

My wife, sister , brother in law and 2 other friends recently stayed in this beautiful home as we prepared for our son's wedding. We never felt as though we are at some rental property. It was like staying in a good friends home--and a very nice one at that. Every detail has been considered and covered. The wedding turned out beautifully and the stay at this home was a big contributor to joy we experienced in Baltimore. Try it , you will definitely be glad you did! GCM

We wanted a place near the JHU campus that had plenty of room for a family of five and a kitchen to cook some of our meals. You have a great location and your home is amazing! (We don't have the high-ceiling, hardwood-floored, row houses in the Midwest. Also, I think the owners must be related or at least good friends of Martha Stewart as I was surprised by the comfort and decor of each room!) We had everything we needed to feel at home and we would love to come and stay the next time we are in Baltimore visiting our student. I especially enjoyed reading on the back porch in the morning and the front porch in the late evening after a day of campus tours. In terms of location, we were able to walk to the Baltimore Museum of Art, the JHU campus and found it very easy to drive to the Inner Harbor area. We cooked a number of our meals in the well-equipped kitchen and also enjoyed eating at the (casual) Korean restaurant near campus, the funky Paper Moon, and the Turkish restaurant downtown on Charles Street. This is a great, roomy place to stay for a family or group visiting Baltimore. Thank you for the hospitality!

A great place in a great location

Guest: John T. (Joplin, MO)
Date of Stay: 06/11/10 Review Submitted: 09/01/10

My family and I stayed in this home in June of this year, 2010. It had everything we needed or wanted and was very comfortable. The hostess, Linda, was very pleasant and offered all sorts of information, such as where to go to eat and where to buy things. The location near Johns Hopkins was great, we walked there. I can't think of anything bad to say about this property. It even had off street parking for two vehicles. When we go back to Baltimore someday we'll want to stay here again. John T.
