                      VRBO Bear stayed here:

It was the week before Christmas and all the Bear cousins were in town for the holidays. I decided to take them deep into the Texas Hill Country to experience the magic of the season. Our home for the weekend was the LBJ Ranch Guest House in Stonewall, which is located next door to the Historic Texas White House on the banks of the Pedernales River. We were warmly welcomed upon our arrival and immediately made to feel at home whilst keys were exchanged and information shared on various local attractions and upcoming events. The house, a comfortable 4 bedroom/ 2 bathroom cottage, was beautifully decorated for Christmas complete with a tree filled with the late Lady Bird Johnson's personal decorations. Little did the Bear Cubs know that we were in for a living history lesson: for not only was each room filled with personal memorabilia and photographs of the Johnson family, but the opportunity to take a tour of the White House was literally on our doorstep.

We spent most mornings on the screened porch, sipping our coffee and watching the kids squeal with delight on the swing, explore the oak-filled grounds, build forts, collect pecans, and attempt to catch fish in the river. When we managed to tear ourselves away from the comforts of home, we were spoilt for choice with all the shopping and dining amenities in nearby Fredericksburg and Johnson City. Not to mention all the local vineyards and wineries. Being Christmas, we were also fortunate enough to follow the Hill Country Trail of Lights - a spectacular display of Christmas lights that included Johnson City, Marble Falls and many of the smaller towns in between. Another great activity was a walk up the nearby Enchanted Rock which, apart from a great sense of achievement, also gives spectacular views over the Hill Country.

We had a very memorable holiday at the LBJ Ranch Guest House and felt truly honored to spend time in this family home that is steeped in history and culture.

My family gathered at the LBJ guesthouse from north Texas, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Colorado for a dream-come-true destination Christmas. The location was perfect, and even being right next door to the "Texas White House" was not as distracting as that sounds, since the homes are divided by trees and you still enjoy your privacy and sense of seclusion. The property manager was helpful and responsive to my many questions, and warmly welcomed us when we arrived at the ranch on Christmas day. The house is exactly as depicted in the photos, and you feel that it was frozen in time back in the 50's. It was full of Johnson family history, from photos to books to memorabilia. I was able to cook and serve big meals in the old fashioned kitchen, and we spent every evening roasting marshmallows and making s'mores around a crackling fire in the fire pit in the yard. The wildlife was plentiful, and added to the magic of the surroundings. Where else could you find deer, wild turkey, cattle and goats in your backyard, alongside Air Force One? When we were able to tear ourselves away, we were just a short drive from Johnson City, (the Christmas lights were the best we'd ever seen!), shopping in Frederickburg, and pitching washers in Luckenbach. I would strongly recommend this property if you are into history, authenticity, and the outdoors. The accommodations are not luxury, but you can go to any 5 star hotel for that. The guest is a unique slice of our past, and should be treasured for exactly what it is.

What a wonderful experience we had staying at the guest house - a holiday weekend we shall never forget! We enjoyed the breeze while sitting under the big oak trees - fishing on the Perdenales River (caught several bass), watching the deer, checking out the history inside and outside of the guest house and grilling steaks in the backyard. Easy drive to Luckenbach, Fredericksburg, and Enchanted Rock. We hated to leave and will definately be back soon!

We stayed here during Christmas 2010. We visited the winery's by day and went back to the ranch every evening. It was a very nice stay. The wild life was actually wild life. There were dozens of deer around the ranch. We were close to a Walmart in Fredericksburg, Tx. The World War ll museum in Fredericksburg was great too. We had a dog, and the dog loved the place better than we did if possible. If you want a place to get back together with a family, this is the place. Also, you are really staying in a part of American history. It is easy to see why President Johnson spent so much time here.

My family and I had a wonderful time at the LBJ ranch. It was peaceful, relaxing and exciting all at the same time. The guest house was awesome with so much history. We never left the ranch b/c the kids were just happy enjoying the land & the fishing. Our kids were sad to leave. We will be coming back to visit real soon.

The LBJ Guest House was a great place for my family of 5 (3 kids) and my parents. The house has plenty of room and is fully stocked with everything you need--from lines & towels to kitchen appliances & outdoor grills. Right on the Pedernales River, very quiet and secluded when tourists are not at the White House next door. Great yard and fire pit. Absolutley suggest it for families and couples. The history is evident in the family photos framed and hung throughout the house--celebs and dignitaries galore! Audelia was great to work with, very accomodating.
