Accommodations:  Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 1 Bath (Sleeps 9-10)

Keywords:  Cabin

Our cozy cabin sits high on a 5-acre bluff overlooking the whispering shoals of the New River near Sparta, North Carolina. The closest neighbors are across the river. You can hear the whisper of the river's rapids from our deck.

The cabin is ideal for a couple or a family. Two couples can stay comfortably as well, with each having a private sleeping area. Two families can sleep comfortably but must share the single bathroom.

We supply firewood for the wood-burning stove that warms the Cliffhanger in the winter. The cool breeze coming over the mountains will let you keep the windows open in the summer.

Bring your canoe, kayak, or tube! There is an easy public launch about 3 miles upstream. Enjoy a leisurely float down to our waterfront where you can pull up and sunbathe on the large smooth rocks by the river.

The country roads near the Cliffhanger are a cyclists' dream. Little traffic, postcard views, and fresh air make the Cliffhanger a perfect place to start and end your ride.

Or, fire up the grill, put on the catch of the day and kick a leg up onto the porch rail. Listen to the river as the sun goes down. You may hear a red-tailed hawk or an early owl. You can take the memories of our view home with you.

Get Away to the Cliffhanger! Cozy Retreat on the New River!
5/5

A little slice of Heaven!

Date of Stay: 07/08/11 Review Submitted: 07/12/11

We stayed at the Cliff Hanger cabin this past weekend (July 2011). We are a family of 4 plus two dogs! We had a wonderful time. The cabin just as described, remote, quiet, and very relaxing. Just you and nature. The minute you get out of your car you can hear the New River below. The view from the deck and the master loft are simply amazing. The cabin literally sits on a a cliff hence the name. The view straight down off the front/or deck of the cabin is beautiful. We being adventurous, hiked down the property to the river for a swim. It was steep, but lots of fun. We enjoyed a nice swim in the river and some resting upon the large rocks in front of the property. The property is beautiful rolling terrain awesome for biking, hiking, trail running etc. A great workout I might add if that is what you are looking for. Easily walked as well. The cabin is fully stocked with kitchenware etc. The puzzles and games were great entertainment since there is no cable TV. You don't need it. Super Relaxing! Access to the loft and basement bunk are via a hatch (that can be secured open) and a ladder. You should keep that in mind if you are not able to navigate those type of situations. My kids loved it! It is almost like an adult sized tree house. Another added touch was the basket connected to a pulley to transport items up the the master loft. It was fun. My kids are trying to find a place for one in our house. I was concerned about the cabin not having AC but we were fine. We got cold at night. The house has ceiling fans on the main and loft floors as well as box fans for the window. It was very comfortable. The daily highs were in the upper 80's. Location is very central to nearby recreation. We took advantage of the Virgina Creeper Trail and highly recommend it. You can completely entertain yourself without leaving the property. The property owners were super nice to work with and very flexible. Top Notch! Don't miss out on this hidden gem!
