Within a couple of hours of home, this place offered all we needed to get out of the fray, kick back and relax. We paddle boated, we shot trap, we fished, we hiked, we played pool, rode the gator, fed the horses, jumped on the trampoline and tossed a few snowballs at each other! Our hosts were quite a pleasure along with the rest of the family who made us feel right at home. Good people who could not be more friendly and accommodating. The home was very clean and very cozy. Kids loved to sit in front of the fire and bake while watching old episodes of Bonanza. The kitchen was also well appointed and the views were wonderful.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Feelings for this family are mutual. Wonderful to see their loving interactions, and all the different ages having fun in different ways. Thank you for staying with us!

My sister and I were looking for an ideal place to gather our children and husbands together to celebrate our mother's birthday. There could have been no better choice than this one ! The home accommodated us along with our mother and father. We were busy the entire time, hiking, swimming, boating, among many other things. Truly, it was a fit for the oldest to the youngest. The hostess was tremendous and the rest of her family was delightful and helpful. For us, the very best part was the privacy. It was just us ! No crowds to fight, no crowded pools or lines to wait in. Many special memories were made for all of us ! We would return in a heartbeat !Recommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car, families with young children, age 55+.

Look around. Seriously, where else can you have so diversified a vacation? My wife and I (just the two of us) were looking for something a little bit different for vacation this summer than just going to the beach. We found it at Fancy Fox. We rode our bicycles, (some great rolling hills) rode horses (haven't done THAT in years), 'caught some rays' and played in the pool. I even used the shooting range! I shot the shotgun (and more) my dad got me as a boy for the first time in years. My wife shot them as well. (GOTTA love that!) We had a great time at the place. We went into town and ate great meals (try Foti's, It's about Tyme, and just down the road at Sonny's BBQ). We also cooked out on the grill. Colleen, AKA 'Mrs. B' is about the as good a hostess as one could wish. When we arrived, she took us on a 'gator' ride around the property, and made sure we were well cared. My wife and I are pretty 'low maintenance' people, and she can be flexible as needed. The place looks to be outstanding for families. I probably forgot something, but hope this is enough to help others. Be sure to feed the horses with some apples and carrots. Good fun. :-) Two thumbs up ^^Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Where to begin, the description and photos of this estate are exactly right. We had a great time. The owners and their family are fantastic hosts who are very generous of thier time, property, and activities of the estate. Our group of ten ranged in age from almost 2 to 83 and there was something for everyone to enjoy. We made a day trip of the Luray Caverns and part of the Skyline drive and were still home for dinner time. The generosity of this family is outdistanced only by their attentiveness to any concerns you may incur. For example, there was huge storm that knocked out power while we were there. The storm hit close enough to fry the tv in the living room. The owners brought the tv from their home and set it up the very next day. Do not forget the carrots! The stables are full of beautiful horses and ponies and they love carrots. We went through a bag in about 10 minutes. If you like barbecue as much as these horses like carrots, then you HAVE to drive the mile down the road on Friday or Saturday and get some of Sonny's Barbecue. He is not part of the chain of restaurants. He does all of the work himself and it is FANTASTIC! The owners will tell you that when they show you the maps they have highlighted to the local attractions including wineries. Finally, if you like cupcakes, you have to check out Dolcery Desserts in Culpepper on Duke Street. One word...YUM! It is an annual vacation for my family to gather and for the last five years, we have been using vrbo.com to find our homes. This estate offered more diversity of activities and attentiveness than we have enjoyed in any of the rentals in Florida, North Carolina, Niagara on the Lake, and Florida again. For the first time, at the end of the week, my family was asking if we could go back and visit Culpepper and the Fancy Fox Farm again next year. We want to thank Fancy Fox Farm for helping us make a great week of memories for us. From the moment we got there with cookies on the table and wine in the fridge to the moment we left with hugs and pictures, the owners were there to help us have a great time. I would and have recommended this property to anyone who is looking for a relaxing, outdoor activity filled week with a fantastic host. Our kids loved it (2,4,7,9), we loved it, and the grand parents loved it. I think you will love this as much as we did. Enjoy.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

Mrs. B, thank you for being such a great hostess, and so accommodating! We hardly know where to begin. Although it was beastly hot, which no one could do anything about, we enjoyed our time at Fancy Fox Farm immensely. The two kids had a great time in the play room, in the pool, feeding and grooming horses, learning how to ride a horse, riding in the gator, catching fish, and of course, roasting marshmallows to the music of the crickets, etc. The adults enjoyed leisurely time, swimming, grilling -- the buffalo burgers from down the road are excellent. We enjoyed Skyline Drive (beautiful). Downtown Culpeper has neat shops. We visited Charlottesville where our daughter-in-law's architect father designed a fascinating house near the U VA campus, and enjoyed the downtown outdoor mall. Monticello was interesting -- the Family Tour is perfect for youngsters - hands' on. Before we were ready, we had to leave and we hated to leave the beautiful setting of Fancy Fox Farm and the gracious hospitality!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

I have no idea where to start but here it goes. What a great place! We had the best time on vacation here. My kids loved fishing, riding the gator, checking out the horses at the stables, the campfire and the list goes on. We were able to stay at the farm and venture out to DC (about an hour away), we saw the caverns nearby, we drove Skyline drive where we saw many deer. We braved a 4 hour drive to Philly and saw many sights there. We were very busy as well as took it easy. I would recommend this property to friends and relatives. We miss Sonny's BBQ and many other great restaurants we came across on our ventures. My daughter misses Cleo and says to give her a hug.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children.

Spent the last two weeks at Fancy Fox with my wife and three children: 8 year old boy, and 6 and 1 year old girls. We couldn't have been happier. Colleen and Alan are absolutely wonderful interesting people, eager to please and thoughtful, as is the rest of the family and especially their two daughters. They are there to help with ideas and suggestions and anything else you might need. The lodge is a true home away from home with a well stocked comfortable kitchen/dining area and comfy neat bedrooms and bathrooms and an indoor play area for the kids. You will not be bored: there is more than enough to do on the property itself with exquisite vistas, miles of trails, fishing, outdoor playset, skeet shooting, barbecuing, lawn games, horses, and a delightful inground pool. But if that's not enough there's much more to do and see in the surrounding areas. Worked great for us with kids but would work just as well for others. Look forward to a return visit. Highly recommended!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+.

We had a great time at the farm. I really enjoyed the experiences there and the warmness and kindness from Mrs. B and her family. The lodge was comfortable and cozy. My 12 year old caught many fish, My two year old feed the horses and he loved the pool, I gave tours in the gator, and I finally got to make smores and they were delicious!!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: It was wonderful to see the excitement of this family enjoying all the farm had to offer! Great people who fished, swam, fed horses carrots,"gatored", utilized the campground, BBQ'd, and enjoyed peace, quiet and family time on the lawn in the evening. Very nice people.

I rented this house with a group of buddies the other weekend and we had an absolute blast. The property is beautiful and the hospitality that we were shown was second to none. Mrs. Colleen and "The Colonel" really took care to make sure that our group was well taken care of. They even bought a new smoker specifically so that our group could make some authentic ribs While we were there, we took advantage of the opportunity to do some fishing, shoot skeet, drive the gator around the property and used the well stocked kitchen. We had planned on building a big bonfire in the fire pit, and they had even set aside some hay and wood for us, but it started to rain so we had to scratch that plan. We also aren't into horses, but this was an option as well and they certainly looked pretty and well taken care of. I would highly recommend this property to my friends and family. It is really close to D.C. (only about 1:15 away, with some great groceries on the way to stock up on supplies) which is surprising given how isolated it feels from civilization and the congestion that comes with it. It was a breath of fresh air to get everyone outside of the city for the weekend and be able to do it so easily. I think this would be a great rental for large groups of guys (like us), a group of couples (lots of activities to keep you interested for a few days) or even large families who are interested in nearby places to do a "stay-cation." The property is really attractive for people of all ages and I think you will have a great time.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children.
Owner response: Whit and his party were gentlemen and we enjoyed having them stay at the Lodge. It was fun for us to see their enthusiasm and we were glad the meat smoker was a hit.

About the owner: Having lived in every region of the USA, we chose Culpeper to put down roots. The horse farm we have developed is so beautiful and private, just the place to retreat to in this busy world. Both my husband and me served in the Air Force-Alan retired as a Col, and have seen many places, but Fancy Fox has the best of all worlds. My 2 teens say we can never leave, and keep themselves happy with all the natural activities of the farm-the perfect antidote for stress. As 1 of 17 children, I have always been easy with a crowd, so come and see us!
Why the Owner Chose Culpeper:
Culpeper was designated, 'One of the best small towns in America', for its quaint shopping, fine dining, civil war sites, 4 season beauty, moderate climate; all within 65 mi of DC and 45 mi to Charlottesville. It is in the center of the Fox Hunting world, a beautiful 21 mile drive to Skyline Drive and the majesty of the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah Valley, the area is dotted with farms, wineries, views and Southern manners and tranquility.
The Unique Benefits at this Estate:
We are a totally private estate where you and family can feel safe and secure to roam about our many acres, with exhilarating freedom. The scenery, wildlife, and so many things to do please everyone.
From hiking to skeet, visit wineries, fish for over 6 lb bass, breakfast meet and greet to send off the hounds and foxhunters, secluded campground w/ fire pit, accompanied skydiving, play equine soccer, relax in seclusion, visit Civil war sites, nature hike on site, swim in 44x22 Gunite pool, jump on horse trails w/over 40 jumps, practice dressage in ring, use the 175x300 jump ring, sip cocoa in front of your gas FP, visit caves, trail ride, partake in a pre-arranged clinic of your choice, leaf peep on the Skyline Drive, etc.- people say they never run out of things to do.
