Nanaimo is an unspoiled vacation paradise with so many eclectic restaurant choices it's hard to know where to begin. A harbour taxi can get you to the unspoiled beauty of Newcastle Island or the floating pub on Protection Island - the "Dinghy Dock"...or walk to another floating restaurant for Mexican delights - Penny's Palapas.
Should you wish to explore outside the Nanaimo Harbour, there is a seemingly endless choice of recreation available - hiking, kayaking, shopping are just the beginning. Departure Bay beach is a five-minute drive. Piper's Lagoon, the Petroglyphs, Westwood Lake, "etc." are all an easy ten- to fifteen- minute drive.
An hour and a half to the south is the Victoria waterfront. Drive the same time north and you could be standing atop Mount Washington. Cathedral Grove (old growth forest), Parksville beaches, and Chemainus murals are all an easy day trip. The Island's rugged west coast would be a long day trip but is a possibility.

We purchased this property because we've always appreciated the Nanaimo Harbour Walkway, its coffee shops, and the funky mix of commercial, industrial and high-end residential properties. If you're not interested in what you see, walk for five minutes and find something amazing - a huge Coastguard ship pulled into dry dock, the dragon boat teams practicing, the harbour shuttle to Newcastle Island, or a BC ferry pulling into port.
Why the Owner Chose Nanaimo
This property offers an easy getaway for Lower Mainland residents and visitors. Because it is a short walk from the Departure Bay ferry terminal and two float plane taxis, a vehicle is not a necessity! Once on the Island, you are walking distance to more than a dozen restaurants, several large grocery stores and liquor outlets. Arrive with clothes and toiletries and enjoy a modern, comfortable two bedroom home.
