Location: Valasske Mezirici, Czech Republic, Europe (Ostrava Airport 45 Minutes) View Map

Accommodations:  Holiday Cottage, 6 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 10)

Tara is a really romantic Historic Holiday Cottage in the mountains.

It is a 300 year old log house that we have been carefully renovating in the original style for the past three years.

We will be accepting guests in 2009, the price is £850 per week and Tara sleeps 10 in 6 bedrooms.

The house is made entirely of wood and has been renovated completely in the traditional way even down to the individually 'hand made' wooden roof shingles.

'Tara' is situated in the middle of the famous Beskedy Mountain Nature Reserve in the Czech Republic close to the massive Sance reservoir lake and within view of the Slovak and Polish borders in the NE corner of the Czech Republic.

Brno Airport (Ryan Air) is about 2.2 hrs away and Ostrava Airport (Czech Airlines) about 45 minutes.

We have organized a great taxi and car hire system for guests, whereby guests can be taxied straight from the airport (Brno is usually the cheapest with Ryanair) to the house and on the way (25 mins from the house) pick up the hire cars - even if out of office hours, guest drivers can then follow the taxi into the Nature Reserve where the house is.

The car hire for a medium saloon is approx £19 per day.

The house is ideal as a family get-together location for 6 adults and 4 children - or 10 adults, it has 6 bedrooms, 2 of them very spacious.

The Bedrooms are one treble, 2 doubles and 3 singles.

The main room downstairs has a wonderful old-fashioned farmers oven which incorporates a bread oven and hotplate and has stairs up to the top of it where you can cozy down on the sheepskins if you feel the bedroom is just too far away.

The main room has a big dining table which easily seats 10 plus another big table which seats 7 where children can play at.

The kitchen has 6 electric hob hot plates and an oven, also supplied are a microwave, toaster, kettle and double sink. There is a cozy 'den' with benches and table at the other end of the kitchen.

There is a TV lounge room downstairs with 300 satellite channels including 3 in English. We have also installed a DVD.

There is also a spacious shower washroom with under-floor heating and a washing machine and dryer for guests.

The water is supplied by automatic pump from our own spring and there is a lovely BBQ out house being built in the orchard with fabulous views.

The house stands in its own meadow of about 20 acres, all around is wonderful forest and the views from the veranda look straight across the valley and left and right for about 12 miles - there is no house, light, telegraph pole, road or sign of civilization at all - it is a wonderful forest nature reserve where only those people actually living in it can travel to by car, everyone else has to walk, so very few cars and no tourist feel to the place.

But... not completely cut off! The house was the focus of a tiny community of farmers and there are about 6 houses, mostly ancient.

Tara will be offered to guests for minimum weekly slots running from Sundays.

Please enquire from our homepage enquiry button for more details or if you wish to book.

This is an absolutely fabulous place for those who want enjoy nature and style.

'Tara' sleeps 10 and costs £850 per week.

Fabulous Historical Mountain Nature Reserve Log House

Year Purchased: 2005

Why the Owner Chose Valasske Mezirici

When I married my Czech wife in 2005 I wanted us to have a special home in the Czech Republic where I could bring our children to so they would feel part of this countries rich heritage. The place we found is a spectacular Historic Log House in the Beskdy Mountain Nature Reserve, this area covers a massive 1600 square kilometers and contains 33 areas of highly protected Original 'Virgin' Forest. The house is a 7 minute drive into the forest off the main road and along forest roads that normal motorized traffic is not allowed on, the track opens out onto our own 16 Acre wildflower meadows where we have our own spring. The views across the forest valley to the mountainous borders of Slovakia and Poland are spectacular. We spent 2 years having the property carefully renovated by specialist builders who normally worked on churches, the finished result is an amazing log house with only original features, there is no nasty modern plasterboard or flooring anywhere, the whole roof and walls are a double skin of hand made wooden shingles on top of massive log construction with a stone base of 4 cellars. We have built a lovely BBQ Barn where guests can cook real meals and enjoy cozy evenings under an amazing starry canopy. We have installed special under floor heating for the bathroom which is very spacious with a Big walk in shower. We use the wonderful spring water from our own spring as our water supply and the excess bubbles down into the small ponds down the meadow and into the forest. The wildlife around is wonderful with many rare eagles, cranes, owls, deer being very common. On completion of the restoration we named the house House 'Tara' after our first daughter 'Scarlett', when not booked we love to go there ourselves as flights from London Stansted are so cheap and easy from there.

The Unique Benefits at this Holiday Cottage

Being in the middle of The Beskedy Mountain Nature Reserve this cottage is absolutely ideal for exploring the many attractions of this fabulous area. For instance the Forest itself covers 1600 square miles and contains many areas of very rare Original 'Virgin' Forest and an exceptional array of rare and even unique plants, insects, birds and animals. Tara is an easy drive to all the most interesting places like Pustevni ; the amazing Victorian mountain fresh Air Health Spar with its unique wooden palaces and the statue to Radgast the God of Beer right at the top of the mountain. There is a beautiful historic village museum where you can see houses like Tara in their museum condition, this is a very interesting place to visit and covers a large area, much of it is includes working Mills and farms. There are lovely Castles at Hukvaldi and the picturesque mountain village of Stramberk which itself has many other attractions from its cafe life and restaurant/brewery to the caves where Europe’s first ancestors were discovered. Tara is an exceptional place and ideal for large family groups as the space is very large and there is absolutely no chance of feeling on-top of each other, in fact the opposite is the case, we strongly recommend you have a group of 10 so you don't rattle around the place - the Balcony alone is over 40 foot long, just look at the photos; this is a big place! We have spent many happy evenings with friends around the BBQ tucking into roasted local specialties washed down with excellent Radgast Beer watching the sun gently set over the mountains and feeling so very privileged to be there.

On Saturday, 25 of July, 2009 Nick and Louise : Stunning! I don't think I have ever visited a place so peaceful. Endless starry nights next to the warm glow from the fire and BBQ - inspired idea. The wildlife is fantastic, we even managed to see a black Stork and its incredible wingspan. What outstanding beauty there is all around, and such luxurious accomodation! What an idyll! Would love to return and see the place in the winter months.

On Saturday, 20 of June, 2009 Rebecca : Tara is just a lovely house! All mod cons, but with the feel of a peaceful place where people have lived for hundreds of years. The goulash waiting for us on Saturday was delicious, and just what we needed after a long day's travelling.

On Sunday, 09 of August, 2015 : Barbara We had such a fantastic time in your incredible house, Tara. We loved it. Just wanted to say thankyou for your directions for driving from Brno airport. They were absolutely brilliant. So clear to understand. Hope you found everything in good order after we left. We did masses of walking whilst there and the children did a lot of running up and down your balcony which was my favourite bit of your house. What an amazing view! Thank you too for the shopping and meal cooking.... it was extremely helpful.
