Location: Santa Fiora, Tuscany, Italy, Europe (Siena One Hour)
Accommodations: Flat/Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4-8)
Come and experience the real Italy.
While the rest of Tuscany is awash with tourists and baking in the heat, stay in historic Santa Fiora, nestled in the verdant Fiora Valley at the foot of Tuscany's highest mountain, Monte Amiata. Our sunny restored flat is centrally located in the main town square: Piazza Garibaldi. With its parquet wood floors, hand-woven Kilim rugs, rooftop terrace and modern fully equipped kitchen, you will enjoy an elegant, comfortable stay in a friendly Tuscan town. Located on third floor of an antique palazzo in town center.
Fall is perhaps the best time to visit; its the period of the vendemmia (grape harvest), the caccia ai porcini (mushroom hunting)and raccolta dei castagni (chestnut gathering). Santa Fiora was home to the powerful Sforza and Aldobrandeschi families, which explains the richness of its architectural and artistic patrimony (the castle and its walls, ancient aqueduct bridge, world famous Della Robbias, and medieval Peschiera) for a town of its size. More recent important figures include Davide Lazzaretti, Ernesto Balducci and contemporary author Andrea Camilleri. Important from the time of the Etruscans due to its mines and springs, Santa Fiora is an undiscovered jewel in the heart of Southern Tuscany.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1991
We live full-time in the southwest of Ireland, outside the town of Bantry. My two teenage children were born while we were living in Italy, and Italian was their first language. We now like to return in the summers to see friends.
Why the Owner Chose Santa Fiora
We bought this flat shortly after moving to Tuscany. We felt that Santa Fiora was by far the prettiest and most 'complete' little hilltop town in southern Tuscany.
The Unique Benefits of this Flat/Apartment
One of the benefits of living in a relatively unknown town is that there are not many tourists and most of the local people do not speak English. This means there is more chance to practice the language. Our children were born in Italy, and though we moved away many years ago, they have maintained their friendships here. There is something very freeing about spending time in such a traditional location.
