The main floor has a four piece bath with jacuzzi, a fourth bedroom with new queen bed and 2 piece ensuite.

There is a 5th bedroom with single-double bunk and a 3 piece ensuite on the lower level.

The cottage works especially well for two families, with a TV, stereo, and DVD on the main floor, and a lower level recreation/entertainment area with TV, DVD, VCR, air hockey table, board games and toys.

The property is privately situated, and has a 100 foot wide beach with pebbled stone. During the evening sit on tree stools while roasting marshmallows over an open fire and listening for the loons. Little ones will especially enjoy the large sandbox, swing under the balcony, and their very own Adirondack chairs and table.

For skiers and bikers we feature a new shed for ski and bike lock-off.

High speed internet is available.

SPECIAL NOTE: We are a handicapped and senior friendly facility, with newly constructed handicap ramp, main floor bedroom, main floor bathrooms with safety devices, and direct access to the deck. The beach has been recently graded with a gentle slope allowing easy access to the waterfront.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1982

We (Sue and Richard) hail from Southwestern Ontario and Trinidad respectively, and currently make Toronto our home. Our blended family of four children, who are in their twenties, are now leaving the nest one by one. We are an eclectic group of avid skiers/snowboarders, swimmers, scuba divers, hikers, sailors, musicians, food and wine lovers!

Why the Owner Chose Blue Mountains

Sue vacationed in the area during early childhood and loved the friendly atmosphere of the local villages and the majesty of the Bay. There was always so much to do - from skiing to sailing, or visiting the Tom Thompson Gallery in Owen Sound. Here the children learned to downhill ski and had their first taste of live theatre.

When the Bay was calm, the eerie call of the loons could be heard piercing the morning mist. Named after these majestic inhabitants, the Loons has been a great place to enjoy family and friends over the years, and to find peace and balance.

Our favorite outings – to cross-country ski or hike the Kolapore Uplands through the majestic hardwoods and protective cedars, or stroll at dusk with our dogs westward from the Christie Beach Conservation Authority on the long sandy beach, with the brilliant summer sun slowing dipping behind the hills of Cape Rich.

The Unique Benefits of this Chalet/Cottage

At the Loons you can enjoy a true four season experience – bike through the white apple blossoms of spring along the Georgian Trail, soak up the summer sun on the cottage’s private beach or windsurf at nearby Craigleith, absorb the colours of autumn while hiking and biking the Kolapore/Bruce Trails, and experience the fun of downhill skiing at the nearby escarpment resorts and cross country skiing on the numerous trail systems.

The cottage is advantageously situated to enjoy many local ski resorts - Blue Mountain, Georgian Peaks, Alpine, Craigleith, Talisman and Beaver Valley.

Nearby Thornbury, Meaford and Collingwood offer full services and lots of things (and in fact, too many things!!) to do – golfing at several major championship courses (Lora Bay Raven Golf Course, the Georgian Bay Club, and Monterra), antiquing, Collingwood’s “Elvis” Festival, Meaford’s Georgian Bay theatre at the historic Opera House, international film festival and Apple Harvest Festival, wine tours at Coffin Ridge Winery, trapeze rides and the Scenic Caves at Blue Mountain, and the list goes on..... And of course, good dining and shopping.

Georgian Bay is delightful for swimming, with wonderfully clean water. The cottage has a stony beach, great for fossil hunting. What better place to view the brilliant sunrises and sunsets, and sit around the campfire on the beach.

Nearby (10 cottages away) is the Christie Beach Conservation Authority with a very shallow sandy beach and playground, perfect for an afternoon outing.

Our location is easily accessible by a major highway (Hwy 400) or along numerous back road routes (Airport Road, Hwys 10 and 50) if you want to avoid the weekend or holiday traffic.
