Beauty, tranquility, natural wonders. Los Barriles on Baja's East Cape is where the desert meets the sea. It is a small & quiet town inhabited by many expats & local Mexicans - all with smiling faces. Casa Agave is located in a beautiful setting a few miles north of the small town center. You will need a car to get around. Gorgeous upstairs master bed & bath with a patio that has "to die for" views out over the Sea of Cortez. We watched whales migrating & the most beautiful sunrise & sunsets from this deck. The main floor is open & large comprising the kitchen, dining & living room areas. Plenty of sitting space at the table & in the living room. The entire outside wall is probably 30 ft of sliding glass doors opening onto the outside terrace with views of the sea. The 2nd & 3rd bedrooms are just steps out onto the veranda in their own separate building with a shared bath. The beds are super comfortable, great linens & towels, very functional kitchen & a nice outside BBQ. Internet service in the house & some limited T.V. & over 150 DVD's to watch. 2 sea kayaks, beach umbrella & towels, good snorkeling at the beach and the pool at the hotel in town are all available for guests to use. We used it all! We were a group where the youngest was 4, the oldest 82. Come here to marvel at the passing whales, experience dolphins & manta rays jumping near your sea kayak, catch world class fish, eat great local foods, visit waterfalls & hot springs, or even venture into Cabo for the night life & shopping. Plan to visit during the January International Kite Boarding competition or in February for the Baja 300. Fly into the airport in San Jose del Cabo. Rent a car & drive north about 1 hr - you might want to stop at Costco to stock up on supplies first if desired. Be sure to visit Verdugo's to sit in a rocking chair overlooking the water while sipping a killer margarita. Then walk over to Smoky's for some of the best Hamachi or Yellowtail fish & chips ever. There are several other good places to eat in town as well. Lots of great Mexican food. Also a well stocked market if you prefer to eat in. Also banks & ATM machines in town. Kathinka with Wolf Property Management in Los Barriles is great. She has everything ready for you when you arrive & escorts you to the house to get you oriented. When we had an Internet & T.V. problem, she responded right away to fix it. They can help you plan outings, rental cars, etc.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We recently spent 8 nights at Casa Agave and had a wonderful and restful stay. We so enjoyed cooking and barbecuing in the well appointed home, the outside space was pleasant with beautiful architecture, tropical plants and birds singing. Morning yoga on the deck with the palms swaying and the rays jumping in the ocean was so special. Thanks for the use of the kayaks, we really had fun paddling through the pods of rays doing backflips and the huge angelfish swimming under us. We saw several whales passing by as well! There is lots to do in the area, we just loved staying here. We appreciated all the information you sent about the area, Leigh-Anne & Paul, we met the fish man for fresh prawns and enjoyed events around town during our visit. Thank you for opening your special home so others can experience all it has to offer! This place was amazing. It's better in person than in the photos - especially the master suite. Beautiful polished concrete floors, tasteful furnishings, great kitchen with everything you need. Beach out front is a bit rocky right now, but saw manta rays and lots of fish. Loved this place.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

My husband and I had the pleasure of being in this home the month of May 2010. It truly was a wonderful experience! I can not say enough about the area- we felt as if we were at home!!!!! The house is wonderfully equipped- we really enjoyed the master suite- waking up to the sunrise each morning was wonderful! I can't put into words the blissful feelings we shared sitting on the patio and watching the Sea of Cortez- truly wonderful. We so fell in love with the Los Barriles area that we made our own property purchase while there! Your home is truly an amazing place and I am sure we will be looking to book again down the road for family!!!!! Thank ou so very much for sharing your piece of heaven with us!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: So happy Judi that you enjoyed LB as much as us! It is wonderful that you have taken the leap to buy your own piece of paradise. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to hosting some of your extended family in the future. Best wishes with the new place!

We recently had the pleasure to stay at Casa Agave and we recommend the home for almost anyone, although we suggest you rent a car to get from the airport in San Jose to the community of Los Barriles on the East Cape. The home was perfect for us as a couple as we loved the master bedroom with it's king bed and ensuite with his and hers closets and the seperate casita with 2 bedrooms and a shared bathroom was perfect for our daughter and my friend. The kitchen if fully functional and well equipped and the bbq is gas with an eating bar outside. There is a table to dine at but we generally enjoyed the eating bar inside. The home was designed with outdoor living in mind and boasts a stellar view from the deck on the master bedroom level and all around the various patio areas which have several sets of tables and chairs. The 2 sit-on-top kayaks (1 dbl and 1 single) were an additional bonus to explore the beautiful east cape shoreline. The beach is super close and the ocean sunsets from the balcony are breathtaking! The town of Los Barriles has everything you need- a bank, pharmacy, small supermarket, fishing tackle stores and the property manager can arrange fishing charters or babysitting services for families. We rented ATVs on 2 days and explored Punta Pescadero and Bueno Vista's communities. Los Barriles has kitesurfing as well and everwhere we dined was excellent. Our favorite "watering hole" was Smokey's which had great pub style food and authentic mexican cuisine and if you charter a boat and have a good day, they will smoke or pack your catch! The drive from San Jose from the airport to Los Barriles just over an hour and well worth the drive to get away from the hustle and bustle of Cabo and discover all the wonderful things Los Barriles and the East Cape has to offer. Casa Agave is very modern, clean and very comfortable and the owners are very accomodating and willing to answer all your questions and make recommendations for your stay. We know you will enjoy your stay as much as we enjoyed ours!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Great house, great location. I'm an avid kite surfer and the location was perfect. Awesome snorkeling within walking distance. The house itself was very comfortable - I was there with my mother who is a pro chef and found it one of the best kitches to cook in. One thing not mentioned in the write-up tha was an awesome surprise was all of the videos that were available to watch. I would definately recommend Casa Agave to anyone!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This villa is very private and positioned perfectly to enjoy the arroyo (old riverbed) and the quiet beach area. A few steps from the house you can have the beach to yourself or try one of the kayaks. We had privacy to entertain and spent most of time on decks or lounging in garden areas. Private bedrooms had great sunrise and sunset views. The house is very new and clean and has all the conveniences, well filtered water from the tap, dishwasher, TV & DVD player, phone, wireless internet, icemaker (except a dryer but our clothes dried on the line quickly). It is very modern with lots of outdoor private patio areas for entertaining, kitchen, dining and living are close to outdoors so you felt like you were 'always outdoors'. Lot of palm trees, agave cactus - even an orange tree! Watch small kids with cactus though - they are sharp! Kayaking a couple of days up and down the coves and beaches was great to get the view from the water, and we rented some ATV's and you can drive along the coastal road north or ride them on the really wide beaches around the Los Barriles area. Our first trip to 'LB' and we really enjoyed the little town with hideaway restaurants just 5 minutes from the house.Owner response: Thanks Sue and family for your review - we know that is you! - look forward to you staying with us again next year!

Relaxation Homless2 Kelowna, BC Review Submitted: December 2, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2009 One of the things that impressed me the most was that i could drink the water right out of the tap without getting sick. The place was very clean and comfortable. The ocean was so remarkably warm we didn't want to get out. It was just a short walk to the ocean, and the view every morning sitting having our coffee on the deck, was of the beautiful sun rise over the blue warm water. An awesome place to come to for a relaxing get away. If your a fisherman, this is the place to be, and if you enjoy a great lobster or tuna you need to come here. Tuesdays fishing boats arrive with their catch and wow... what a fiest you can have. Stocking up on food at the grocery store was cheap but if you don't enjoy cooking then you do need a vehicle to drive into the little town centre for dinner(only a five min-ten min drive) There are a number of quaint places to eat with authentic mexican bands to entertain you. We enjoyed our stay very much and would not hesitate to go back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a great stay here, house is very beautiful and very private, kids liked the kayaks, town is pretty laid back, but still has enough tradition mexican food resturants to feel like real Mexico!
