Southern Reach was custom built in 2008 on the South shore of Cayman Brac. This stunning shorefront home is located just 100 feet from the ocean's edge with stunning views and a comfortable breeze all year long.
The house offers privacy with all the modern conveniences of home. There are two private bedrooms which face the ocean and have sliding door access to the porch. The master bedroom has a king sized bed. The second bedroom has two twin beds that can be put together if a second king bed is desired. The master bathroom is accessible from the bedroom or the main room. The second bedroom's bath is accessible only through the bedroom. Both bedrooms and the livingroom have sliding glass doors that access the breeze-cooled open air porch. There are two comfortable hammocks and an assortment of lounge chairs on the porch. The house has central air conditioning, washer and dryer, dishwasher, TV Dish Network, DVD, CD player stereo, and all the other amenities you would expect in a modern home.
An open air shower is located off the porch. The porch has both hammocks and lounge chairs for a nap, reading, or just taking in the refreshing ocean views and breeze. There is a coral stone shore line with a slight sandy beach. Diving or snorkeling can be done right from the shore with reef shoes if you are an experienced swimmer. Beachcombing begins right out your back door and is amazing. Natural flora surrounds you, as you are located in the Cayman Country.
Explore the island with it's many sites, spend a day diving or snorkeling, take a walk on the beach and find some treasures, wander the nature trails in seach of native birds, unwind with a wonderful meal in one of the colorful local resturants, explore the many caves, take in all the beauty around you, then come home to relax in your own private beach house. The Cayman Islands are rated in the top five world wide destinations for diving.

We've been coming to the Brac since 2003 and have stayed at Southern Reach twice and are going again this Jan. The photos do not prepare you for the wonder of the sea views from this home. You drive up to "the back of the house" and open that door and there it is. Both bedrooms and living/kitchen area are completely open to the sea. And don't forget the bluff--it's right there, too, in all its majesty. I think folks who stay on the west-mid sections of the island miss the high bluff views and the comparative wildness of the east end. You can always see the sunrise from the wonderful deep shady porch and the sunset from the same spot some of the year, as well. On clear nights, you can see forever--my favorite is the full moon rising over the sea and silvering the waves. The house itself is vacation living at its best--tile floors throughout are easy to sweep, the kitchen is fully functional and, like every other room in the house except the bathrooms, you can see the sea at all times. We have never used the A/C because of all the windows/fans so we can feel those tradewinds. You feel like you're outside, but sheltered and very comfortable. One warning for those of you who want soft sandy beaches: you don't get that on the east end. We enjoy the ironshore with all its tidal pools and the vista from the porch (did I mention deep and shady?) is wonderful--you can see the curvature of the earth. We always hope for a storm so we can watch it sweep in. If you're worried about being "far out" from everything, that's part of the beauty of it all, but we've stayed as long as 9 weeks at Southern Reach and never tired of the drive to anywhere on the island. You're missing out if you don't drive all over. You can't get lost! When you go to the grocery stores or restaurants, look at the posters/bulletin boards for island activities or ask anyone you meet what's happening. If you're looking for a Sandals Resort experience, don't come to the Brac. If you're wanting to relax, swim, snorkel, dive, hike, cave, and climb, come on down! If you want the experience of saying, "Gosh, a car just went by" because it's so rare, of looking out the north side of the house and seeing the tall craggy bluff and looking out the south side of the house and seeing the sea forever, stay at Southern Reach. Like Andy Martin, the Cayman Cowboy, sings: "Sometimes that old bluff looks like a long-lost friend". It's a strange, wonderful little piece of earth.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Hi Paul, Great house in a nice private location. We are from Grand Cayman so spending New Years at your house was a real treat. About the owner: Paul & Maggie Swanson love islands and we love diving. Cayman Brac is off the beaten path which is something we really love about the Brac. Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are listed in the top five of all world wide diving locations. We live full time on Washington Island in Wisconsin so you might say we are attracted to Islands.

Owners Paul & Maggie Swanson chose Cayman Brac to build our house because of the great beauty of Cayman Brac and wonderful people (Brackers) that live their. Our House is located in the Cayman Country as the Southside is known. Their is no crime on Cayman Brac which was a major reason for picking this wonderful location to build our home.

We are located right on the ocean in a very rural setting. Beach combing and diving is wonderful right off our shore. Their is usually a constant trade wind breeze at all times.
